Justin successfully pressed Bill for the truth about Steffy. Steffy received the paternity test results, which named Liam as the father. Liam found the paternity test results in Steffy's purse.

After a night of passion, Lani and Eli learned that Gabi had spent the night with J.J. to prevent his suicide. Lani and Eli agreed to pretend their night together had never happened. Abe forgave J.J. and invited him to see Theo. Theo woke from his coma and appeared to be fine. J.J. told Jennifer about his attempted suicide, and he spoke to Eric about therapy. Ciara and Claire bickered over Theo. Ciara confessed her love to Theo, and Tripp admitted his feelings to Claire, but both were rejected. Andre admitted to Abigail that he had feelings for Kate. Chad refused to forgive Kate, but Theo did. Kate confessed the truth to Abe, but neither she nor Theo was charged with a crime. Abe reinstated Hope as commissioner. Belle and Shawn left town. Gabi agreed to sell her company to DiMera, but Eve convinced her to give Titan a second look. On New Year's Eve, Brady kissed Eve, Andre kissed Kate, Eric kissed Jennifer, and Will kissed Paul. At the gala, Vivian Alamain made a dramatic entrance.

Finn managed to plant a bug in Cassandra's phone, which helped the WSB and Anna locate the facility where Cassandra manufactured illegal opioids. Cassandra realized that she'd been betrayed when her henchman found the bug in her phone, but she assumed that Valentin had planted it. Cassandra kidnapped Valentin, but she soon figured out that Finn had been the mole, so she went after Anna to get to Finn. Monica offered Nelle sage advice about how to win over the Quartermaine family. Kevin was touched when Laura decided to take his last name. Mayor Lomax was forced to resign when she was indicted for stealing the election from Felicia. Alexis announced that there would be a special mayoral election, but Felicia declined to run. Kevin thought that Laura would be an ideal candidate for mayor. Peter asked Lulu to write a story about why Cesar Faison had targeted Jason and Drew. Carly played matchmaker by arranging for Jason and Sam to spend time alone on the Haunted Star. Jason and Sam shared a tender kiss as fireworks rang in the new year.

Jill was shocked when Jack accepted her inflated counteroffer for Jabot to buy Chancellor Industries. After Jill learned that Jack had been ousted as CEO, she sent Billy to squash the deal. Ashley rallied the Jabot board to approve an amendment requiring the CEO to work from the office. Jack opted to remain CEO and hired a caregiver for Dina. Nick wanted to build a dream home for Chelsea and their kids, but she insisted on staying at the penthouse. Sam was released from the hospital. Lily struggled with her feelings about the baby, while Hilary took a shine to Sam. Reed insisted on driving after drinking at a party, and Mattie called the cops on him. Reed was arrested for DUI. Nikki lectured Reed on his possible predisposition to addiction. J.T. decided to stay in town. Nikki and Victor planned a vow renewal on New Year's Eve. Nick refused to attend the ceremony at first, but he eventually agreed to do it for his mother after a visit from Victor. Jill and Esther arranged a private party for Lily and Cane on New Year's Eve, but Lily dodged Cane's kiss. Victor and Nikki exchanged surprisingly sincere vows. Nick caught Abby and Scott kissing.
