It would appear that reports of Abigail DiMera's death were greatly exaggerated on Days of our Lives, but were they?
After Days of our Lives' Clyde stunned Chad with the news that his beloved wife Abigail was alive and well somewhere out there, Chad could barely believe his ears. He finally caved and told Jack that his daughter might be alive, so they set out on a search that led them to a mysterious blonde woman in Missouri.
The woman, played by daytime newcomer AnnaLynne McCord, returned to Salem with Jack and Chad and agreed to a DNA test. To everyone's surprise, the test showed her DNA was a match for Jack's. Everyone immediately assumed she was Abigail, and she might be...but she also might not be.
Since Kayla only tested the woman's DNA against Jack and not an item that belonged to Abigail, she could be Jack's daughter -- just not the one everyone is looking for.
As fans know, Jack has another daughter named Gwen as a result of a one-night stand with Gwen's mom before he ever moved to Salem and met Jennifer. We only saw Gwen's mother in recreated flashbacks and know she died while Gwen was still a child. Her mother had once sought Jack out for money, but Jennifer's mother, Laura Horton, paid her off before Jack and Jennifer ever knew Gwen existed.
Is it possible that Gwen's mother had twins, and this mystery woman is the other twin? Perhaps she only felt she could afford to raise one child and gave the other up. That would mean Gwen never knew about her, which would explain why she never mentioned a sister before.
Since Clyde Weston has now morphed into a supervillain who knows all about everyone, he could have learned that Jack had another daughter out there and kidnapped her in case he ever needed something to hold over Chad's head. Why not save some pertinent information -- even if it's false -- for a rainy day?
On Friday, Jennifer arrives in town to see the daughter she thought was gone, but since Kayla, Chad, Jack, and the mystery woman all believe Jack's DNA proves Abigail is alive, they have no reason to test Jennifer's DNA.
The extended Deveraux/Horton/DiMera clans may welcome the woman they believe is Abigail with open arms, and she may fit right in with her various families. She might even fall in love with Chad and think of Abigail's children as her own. However, if she turns out not to be Abigail, DAYS will have a truly soapy tale on its hands that can affect multiple Salemites for years to come.
