Cast of the Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon is set to release its live-action film on June 13, 2025. It is directed, written, and co-produced by Dean DeBlois. It is the live-action remake of the 2010 animated film How to Train Your Dragon. The film is set in a mythical Viking village, Berk, and follows the life of Hiccup, a teenager who is told to become a dragon slayer like the other Vikings. However, in the turn of events, he and the dragon named Toothless become friends.

Following the trend of turning animated films like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin into live-action adaptations, Universal Pictures announced in February 2023 that a live-action remake of the Oscar-nominated animated film trilogy How to Train Your Dragon was in the works. The casting for the live-action adaptation of the film has been announced.

Mason Thames as Hiccup

Mason Thames will be playing the role of Hiccup in the film. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is a young Viking who wants to meet his father’s expectations, and become a fearless dragon slayer. His loyalty gets tested when he becomes friends with a dragon named Toothless against his father’s wishes.

Mason Thames is an American actor, born on July 10, 2007, in Dallas, Texas, United States. He made his TV debut with the Apple TV+ show For All Mankind in 2019. In 2022, he made his film debut with the film The Black Phone. He has also worked on projects like Walker (2021–2022), Incoming (2024), and Monster Summer (2024).

Nico Parker as Astrid

Nico Parker will be playing the role of Astrid in the film. Astrid Hofferson is a Viking warrior and Hiccup’s love interest. She is portrayed as a smart, beautiful, and strong person. She is a loyal supporter of Hiccup.

Nico Parker is a British actress, born on December 9, 2004, in Kensal Green, London, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of actress Thandiwe Newton and director Ol Parker. Gerard Butler as Stoick

Gerard Butler will be playing the role of Stoick in the film. Stoick the Vast is the chief of Berk and Hiccup’s father. He is a powerful and tough leader of his tribe who is committed to protecting his people. He wants his son to be strong and mature soon so that one day he can replace him as a Chief.

Nick Frost as Gobber

Nick Frost will be playing the role of Gobber in the film. Gobber the Belch is the friend and advisor of Stoick who trains his son and other kids to become dragon slayers. He is a veteran warrior of his tribe.

Julian Dennison as Fishlegs

Julian Dennison will be playing the role of Fishlegs in the film. Fishlegs Ingerman is Hiccup’s best friend. He is portrayed as a clumsy and kindhearted person who has a great knowledge of dragons. He makes mistakes at the wrong moments.

Gabriel Howell will be playing the role of Snotlout in the film. Snotlout Jorgenson is the outspoken acquaintance of Hiccup. He is portrayed as an arrogant person who often bullies others. He doesn't get along with Hiccup but at the time of important matters, he shows his loyalty towards him.

Bronwyn James as Ruffnut

Bronwyn James will be playing the role of Ruffnut in the film. Ruffnut Thorston is a young Viking who trains with Hiccup and always gets into trouble. She is the twin sister of Tuffnut.

Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut

Harry Trevaldwyn will be playing the role of Tuffnut in the film. Tuffnut Thorston is a young Viking and he is the twin brother of Ruffnut. He doesn’t get along with his sister most of the time. They always argue with each other and get into trouble.
