“Cursed or something”— Frankie Muniz Jr. shares mental health struggles amid NASCAR racing setbacks

Frankie Muniz Jr., in a post-race interview, shared that he feels "oddly cursed or something" after he finished below Top 20 in a race after blowing his power steering line. Furthermore, he shared that his at a "new low" mentally and emotionally via his X account.

Frankie Muniz Jr. is an American actor and NASCAR racer. He is known for his performance in the early 2000s sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle. He is also known for his roles in films like Big Fat Liar (2002), Agent Cody Banks (2003), etc. Though he had a long interest in racing, in 2023 he started focusing more on his racing career.

According to multiple reports, on April 18, at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Rockingham Speedway, Muniz Jr was placed below the Top 20 as his power steering line burst, and was forced to make an emergency stop for repair, and finish the race in 23rd position.

After the setback, during a post-race interview, Frank Muniz Jr., probably reminiscing about the multiple setbacks he faced in his NASCAR career,

"I am just oddly cursed or something...I’ve had bad luck for almost two years straight."

According to the New York Post, in early April, his vehicle was hit by another driver. But, concerning fans, the Malcolm in the Middle star shared a concerning message on social media on April 21.

"If I'm being 100% honest... Mentally/emotionally I may be at a new low. Just wanted to say it out loud."

According to People Magazine's exclusive published on March 11, 2025, Frankie Muniz Jr. talked about his NASCAR career and revealed that people, initially, probably thought racing was just a hobby for him, while sharing that he is working hard to succeed as a race car driver.

Frankie Muniz Jr. had been a long-time fan of racing. According to Wikipedia, his career probably started in 2004, as a celebrity participant in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach, where he placed fourth.

Frankie Muniz Jr. later signed up with Jensen Motorsport as a driver on a two-year deal and participated in multiple events. His major wins during the initial years include ninth position in the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Series, second position at the 2007 Sebring Winter National race, etc.

In 2009, Frankie Muniz Jr. signed with Team Stargate Worlds and reportedly finished all his competitions with a ranking in the top 10 According to AP News, he had to take a break due to injuried sustained after a crash, but made a comeback in 2021 and made his stock car racing debut in the SRL Pro Late Model series. In 2022, he participated in the ARCA Menards Series.

According to Wikipedia, he came in fourth in the ARCA Menards Series, driving full-time for Rette Jones Racing in 2023. Currently, he is a full-time driver for Reaume Brothers Racing in the No. 33 truck for the NASCAR Truck Series 2025 season.
