Hope and Liam decided to take a babymoon to Catalina Island, but Liam had to take a separate flight in order to make a doctor's appointment for Kelly. Santa Ana winds grounded Liam's flight, leaving Hope alone and in labor on the island.

Haley asked J.J. to keep his distance from her, but she agreed to go with him to the New Year's Eve party. Ciara and Claire grew friendlier to one another. Ben kidnapped Gabi at Stefan's direction, but after confronting Gabi, Stefan let her go. Gabi turned herself in to the police. Jennifer agreed to date Henry again. Eve returned to Salem and crashed the Horton Center fundraiser.

Kristina had an awkward encounter with Valerie on New Year's Eve. Laura was certain that Kevin had suffered a mental breakdown. Kevin realized that there might be a way to expose Ryan. Ryan claimed another victim.

Charlie stopped Reed from confessing to Rey that he'd been the driver who'd hit Nikki. Victor secretly sneaked into Nikki's room to visit her, and she woke up shortly thereafter. Victor appealed to Nate to help him protect Nikki. The Newmans panicked when Nikki went missing from her hospital room. Victoria prepared to confess to J.T.'s murder over Phyllis' protests. Nick discovered that Nate had whisked Nikki out of the hospital at Victor's request.
