In 2006, White landed his first acting roles in the television series Conviction and the movie Beautiful Ohio. He scored his breakthrough role on the Showtime series Shameless in 2011 as Phillip "Lip" Gallagher. In 2018, he also made an appearance in Homecoming.
White was selected for the role of the title character in the Hulu series The Bear in 2022. He portrays Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, a troubled but talented chef from New York who returns to his hometown of Chicago to rescue his late brother's failing restaurant.
