White first appeared on television in 2006 while still a high school student, in an episode of the NBC legal drama "Conviction." He then made appearances in two episodes of the police procedural series "Law & Order," as well as one episode of the spinoff series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

In 2012, White starred in the comedic anthology film "Movie 43" and the mystery feature "The Time Being."


White starred in the 2013 neo-noir film "Bad Turn Worse," which follows the story of three teenagers who steal money from a local mafia and end up in trouble. The next year, White had an appearance in the crime movie "Rob the Mob." In 2018, White played the lead in the romantic dramedy "After Everything." He starred in the horror movie "The Rental" and the musical drama "Viena and the Fantomes" two years later. Another movie that White has worked on is the crime thriller "The Birthday Cake."


With his first major appearance since "Shameless," White made his return to television in 2022. He played the young and well-known Chicago chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto in the Hulu drama series "The Bear." For his role in "The Bear," White won the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series in 2023.
