Coming to America is getting a sequel, and the best part is that a beloved daytime actress is reprising her iconic role from the film: Shari Headley (ex-Mimi Reed, All My Children; ex-Heather Engle, The Bold and the Beautiful; ex-Felicia Boudreaux, Guiding Light) is stepping back into the shoes of Lisa McDowell for the second installment of the hilarious 1980s comedy.
As fans may recall, the premise of the first film follows Eddie Murphy in the role of Akeem, a prince who travels to NYC in search of a woman who loves him for him rather than his royal status. He quickly finds the perfect woman in Lisa McDowell (Headley) and woos her while hiding his real wealth and princely title.
The upcoming sequel, titled Coming 2 America, will once again follow Akeem, who is set to become King of Zamunda before discovering he has a son he never knew about in America -- a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father's (James Earl Jones) dying wish to groom this son as the crown prince, Akeem and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) set off to America.
Though it's been quite some time since soap opera fans saw Headley on a daytime series, she recently shared a throwback photo from her last soap role of AMC's Mimi, which ended in 2005.
After leaving daytime, Headley went on to appear on series like Castle and Switched at Birth before she landed the role of D.A. Jennifer Sallison on the primetime soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots. Her most recent role is that of Harmony in On Becoming a God in Central Florida.
