Daytime alum Robert Gentry, a soap opera regular who was best known for his roles on Guiding Light and All My Children, has passed away at the age of 81.

Veteran actor Robert Gentry, best known for his run as Ross Chandler on All My Children (1983 to 1990) and Ed Bauer on Guiding Light (1966-1969; 1997-1998) has passed away at the age of 81. Gentry's death was recently noted in the "In Memoriam" section of the Fall/Winter edition of the SAG-AFTRA magazine, which honors members whose deaths were reported to the union between July 1 to October 31.

According to the magazine, Gentry died on September 17, 2022. A native of New York City, Gentry made his television debut in 1965 when he appeared in the NBC soap The Doctors. He would go on to appear in several other soaps, including One Life to Live (1983), Days of our Lives (1994-1995), Another World (1979-1981, 1997-1998), and The Bold and the Beautiful (1993).

But it was Guiding Light where Gentry first made a big name for himself with the daytime audience as Ed Bauer, a doctor in the fictional Springfield, Illinois. Years later, Gentry landed his longest-tenured role on a soap when he starred as Ross Chandler, the nephew of family patriarch Adam Chandler (portrayed by the late David Canary). Ross was later revealed to be the illegitimate son of Adam's nemesis Palmer Cortlandt (portrayed by the late James Mitchell).

In addition to his daytime credits, Gentry had many primetime acting credits. He appeared in episodes of Gunsmoke, Matlock, Hunter,Charlie's Angels, and more.
