John O'Hurley to play short-term AMC story

Television vet John O'Hurley -- Seinfeld's J. Peterman -- is headed to Pine Valley. He'll play a producer who wants to turn Erica's latest book into a movie.

John O'Hurley will make several appearances on All My Children later this year as Kit Sterling, a producer who approaches Erica Kane to make a movie based on the new book she has just written.

O'Hurley is best-known for his role as J. Peterman on Seinfeld, but the actor also has a soap pedigree of his own. O'Hurley has appeared on six different soaps in the past. O'Hurley kicked off his soap career in 1983 as Greg Shaeffer on The Edge of Night. From 1984 through 1986, he played twins -- good and evil, of course -- Keith Lane and Jonathan Matalaine on Loving. Next up was a short gig on As the World Turns as Douglas Prescott. In 1989, O'Hurley began a two-year run as Jim Grainger on The Young and the Restless. His final daytime stops were as Steven Slade on Santa Barbara and Greg Bennett on General Hospital.

In 2005, O'Hurley danced his way to the finals of the first installment of ABC's reality competition, Dancing with the Stars. He placed second to General Hospital star Kelly Monaco (Samantha McCall), but O'Hurley took home top honors in a rematch that raised money for charity. Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars in 2008.

O'Hurley's first AMC episode will air on September 12.
