Done deal: Thorsten Kaye inks deal with AMC

It's official -- as reported by Soap Central earlier this month, Thorsten Kaye (ex-Ian Thornhart, Port Charles; ex-Patrick Thornhart, One Life to Live) has joined the cast of All My Children.

The announcement of Kaye's addition to the AMC cast was made Tuesday, April 6th by ABC Daytime President Brian Frons. The signing of Kaye comes after months of negotiating and will reunite the actor with former Port Charles executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers, who now serves in the same capacity at All My Children.

"I am thrilled to again be working with Thorsten Kaye and welcome him to the All My Children canvas. Thorsten's incredible talent and established appeal are certain to captivate our audience as his storyline unfolds," says executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers.

Because of Kaye's long history with various ABC soaps, there was some question about what character he would portray on the show. From 1995 to 1997, Kaye portrayed Patrick Thornhart on One Life to Live. His character was written off with much of Llanview believe that he was dead. In 2000, Kaye surfaced on fledgling soap Port Charles. There, Kaye portrayed Ian Thornhart, the previously unknown brother of his One Life to Live alter ego. Kaye remained in the role until the cancellation of Port Charles in October 2003.

On All My Children, however, Kaye will play a new character named Zachery Slater, a Las Vegas casino owner. The decision to create a new character for Kaye should appease most fans. In a recent Soap Central poll, 42% of those responding indicated that they would prefer to see Kaye take on a new role.

Kaye tapes his first AMC scenes on April 26th and will first air on May 20th.
