Following the success of a recent online reunion of As the World Turns stars (see below), actors from Guiding Light are coming together for a Springfield-focused reunion.
Former GL publicist Alan Locher will be hosting the online special that will have Springfield staples like Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva Shayne), Robert Newman (ex-Josh Lewis), Maureen Garrett (ex-Holly Norris), Jerry verDorn (ex-Ross Marler), and Liz Keifer (ex-Blake Marler) reminiscing about their time on the CBS soap opera.
GL's online reunion is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 8, at 3PM ET. Fans can watch and send in their questions here.
Guiding Light is a CBS soap opera that ran on television for 57 years, from June 30, 1952, until September 18, 2009, overlapping a 19-year broadcast on radio from 1937 to 1956. It is listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running drama in American television history and is the fifth-longest running program in all of broadcast history.
As soap fans may know, Locher hosted a reunion for GL's sister soap, As the World Turns, on Friday, April 3. The online special featured Oakdale favorites like Martha Byrne (ex-Lily Snyder/Rose D'Angelo), Don Hastings (ex-Bob Hughes), Kelley Menighan (ex-Emily Stewart), Michael Park (ex-Jack Snyder), and Maura West (ex-Carly Snyder; Ava, General Hospital).
Some highlights from the discussion include Maura West admitting that she didn't know what she was doing her first day on the show, as she had never been on TV before -- and she gets just as nervous during her scenes today as she was that first day at ATWT; Martha Byrne recalling how Elizabeth Hubbard (ex-Lucinda Walsh) used to make her laugh, maybe a little too often; Kelly Menighan recalling having to wear a bathing suit for a scene and telling the cameraman not to focus on a certain part of her body that she wasn't comfortable with; and Don Hastings surprising everyone with the admission that he had two offers to practice real medicine, even though he only played a doctor on TV.
The ATWT stars' full conversation, including their memories of late cast members like Helen Wagner (ex-Nancy Hughes) and Benjamin Hendrickson (ex-Hal Munson), is available to watch below.
UPDATE (April 10, 2020): Great news, As the World Turns fans! A second Oakdale reunion is set to take place this Friday, April 10, at 2PM ET. Some of the stars slated to take part in the virtual walk down memory lane include Terri Conn (ex-Katie Peretti), Ellen Dolan (ex-Margo Hughes), and Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara Ryan), with other actors potentially coming on board.
