Nicole Flender, his mother, is a third-generation New Yorker who is half Austrian and half Russian Jewish. Marc Chalamet, his French father, is the New York reporter for Le Parisien and editor for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Marc is a Protestant who hails from Nîmes. Timothée's paternal grandmother was originally from Brantford, Ontario, Canada, but she had relocated to France. He is a nephew of producers and filmmakers Amy Lippman and Rodman Flender on his mother's side.
