“I've realised I am not a lesbian, I’m queer” — Jojo Siwa discusses her orientation with Danny Beard amid Chris Hughes drama

In a touching moment on Celebrity Big Brother UK, American musician JoJo Siwa talked about her sexual orientation. She said she no longer considers herself a lesbian and now accepts the word queer.

In the midst of persistent public rumours over her close relationship with fellow participant Chris Hughes, she made these remarks during an emotional conversation with roommate Danny Beard.

While speaking to them, she revealed:

"I've realised I am not a lesbian, I’m queer."

JoJo Siwa spoke up to Danny Beard, the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, on her changing perception of her sexuality in an open discussion that aired on ITV2 on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old singer and dancer declared,

“I feel so queer, I've never - I think I've always told myself, I'm a lesbian. I think you - I think being here - I've realised I am not a lesbian, I’m queer."

JoJo Siwa added,

"And I think that's really cool, I'm switching letters! I've dropped the L and I've gone to the Q baby! That's what I love about sexuality."

JoJo Siwa's roommate, Danny, who is non-binary, jokingly said,

"And you know what British people love more than anything? To queue!"

JoJo's comments revealed a change in her sexuality perception. The Nickelodeon alum has used labels like "gay," "lesbian," and "pansexual," but she now feels more at ease with the more inclusive, wider word of queer.

According to LGBTQ+ rights group Stonewall, the term is used by people who don't want to use more precise labels for their sexual orientation or gender identity. According to JoJo Siwa, appearing on the show allowed her to discover sides she had long suppressed. She said to Danny,

“There’s stuff deep down that I think I’ve never really let myself think about or feel."

JoJo Siwa has been dating non-binary influencer and TikTok celebrity Kath Ebbs since November 2024. The pair has openly declared their love for one another, and JoJo has often expressed her adoration and goals for their partnership. She stated on an episode of the We Need to Talk podcast,

"I have the most amazing, beautiful partner, they are an incredible human being who I don't know how I snagged them at all. With Kath, I just trust them beyond trust."

She continued:

"I just want to be a mum... I've had a very maternal instinct for a very long time since I was 12."

But in recent weeks, JoJo's close connection with Chris Hughes, another competitor on Celebrity Big Brother, has brought their relationship to the public's attention. JoJo and the former Love Island star have shown a deep emotional connection throughout the season by sharing jokes about kissing, talking in the hot tub, and snuggling in bed.
