The 35th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards were presented on Thursday, June 14th, at a black-tie gala at at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Time-Warner's Columbus Circle complex in New York City. More than 1,000 performers, producers and craftspeople involved in daytime television, including drama, talk shows, children's programs, game shows and lifestyle programs from both the East and West Coast congregated at a single ceremony to honor the winners.
The awards presented during the Creative Arts portion of the Emmys include mostly non-acting categories. Categories include Outstanding Game Show Host; Children's Series; Achievement in Makeup For A Drama Series; Writing in a Children's series; Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design For A Drama Series; Direction in a Children's Special.
The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards was January 1st, 2007 - December 31st, 2007.
This year, all nine soaps earned nominations for Creative Arts categories. When the voting was done, eight of the shows picked up Emmy wins. Only Passions failed to capitalize on any of its four nominations. ABC's One Life to Live led with four Emmy wins, though two came from a tie in the Outstanding Original Song category -- a category in which OLTL had three of the five nominations. In addition to its two song wins, the ABC soap also won in Costume Design and Lighting Direction.
Other multiple winners include As the World Turns with and Guiding Light, both with two wins apiece. The remaining five soaps all picked up one win each.
