Amanda Seyfried says the people at As the World Turns were "mean," and her experience was "heartbreaking"

Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried doesn't have good things to say about As the World Turns, where she started her career as the character of Lucy Montgomery in 1999.

Amanda Seyfried is super famous for her role in the movie Mean Girls, but the cruel Plastics clan in the 2004 film might not have anything on the powers that be at As the World Turns, where the actress began her career playing the role of Lucinda "Lucy" Montgomery in 1999.

In a video interview with Sirius XM, Seyfried was asked about her experience at the CBS soap opera -- and she says she "shudders to think" about those years and the way she was treated.

"It was really exciting and heartbreaking. Heartbreaking. They were mean," she says. "I was 15 years old. Like, fire me in a nicer way."

The actress admits that her acting skills weren't exactly great -- "clearly I wasn't making the cut" -- but she feels that the whole situation could have been handled in a better way.

"Not that anyone was being mean to me, like, to my face, but it wasn't a warm environment. These people were coming to work, and they were doing their thing, and they were leaving, and I was a 15-year-old who wanted to be an actor," she recalls. "I was bad, and they fired me; they sent my character out, off to South America. But they didn't tell me that! They just didn't invite me back. I heard through the actors playing my parents talking about where Lucy had gone."

Fortunately, Seyfried's uncomfortable experience at ATWT didn't turn her off from pursuing a career in acting. She persevered, first landing a job at All My Children, playing Joni Stafford in 2003, and then going on to find major fame in films such as Mean Girls, Letters to Juliet, Lovelace, Mamma Mia!, and Mank.

"I doubled down at that point," Seyfried says of being unceremoniously fired from ATWT. "Like, 'Oh, no, this is what I want to do. This is exactly where I need to be. I want that back, let's get me another job,' and I kept auditioning, and I got another job on another soap opera."
