Soap alum Warren Burton has passed away

Former daytime star Warren Burton (ex-Warren Andrews, Guiding Light, ex-Eddie Dorrance, All My Children) is dead at the age of 72.

Some sad news to report for longtime soap opera fans: Warren Burton, known for roles like Guiding Light's Warren Andrews and All My Children's Eddie Dorrance, has passed away. The actor was 72.

The Los Angeles Times reported the news earlier this month but did not list a cause of death for the Chicago native.

Burton first rose to daytime fame as All My Children villain Eddie Dorrance, a role he played from 1978 to 1979. The actor took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work on the ABC series.

Making a name for himself as a "bad boy" on AMC, he later when on to play a shameless manager named Jason Dunlap on Another World and a shady hospital administrator named Warren Andrews on Guiding Light.

Burton began working in Hollywood in the late 80s, taking a job as Phillip Hamilton on Santa Barbara in 1989 and as Dr. Glenning on Knot's Landing in 1992.

Following his daytime career, several films, primetime guest starring stints, and voice-over work in video games kept Burton busy. His credits include Valley of the Dolls, Zorro, Green Lantern, and Monk. He also won a Grammy in 1971 for his work as a writer on Lily Tomlin's This is a Recording in the category of Best Comedy Recording.

Burton is survived by his sister, Gayle Affinito (nee Burton), and his niece, Victoria Affinito. A celebration of his life will be held at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on November 15, 2017 at 11AM.
