Brief Character History

It was always thought that Jill Foster was born the youngest child of Liz and Bill Foster. But in 2003 it was disclosed that Jill was adopted. Liz worked hard in a menial factory assembly line job at Chancellor Industries ever since her husband Bill abandoned her and her young children. Jill worked as a shampoo girl and manicurist, helping to put older brothers "Snapper" and Greg through college. She was a dreamer who gazed longingly at magazines filled with pictures of a life she thought she could never have.

One of Jill's customers was the wealthy Katherine Chancellor, who took a liking to this poor innocent young girl, and later hired Jill as her paid companion. Jill liked Kay as well, and was very supportive in Kay's struggle with alcohol. Kay soon became suspicious of Jill and her husband Phillip, and started bugging their conversations. Phillip told Jill that although he knew he was falling in love with her, he would never leave Kay when she needed him. Jill felt so guilty, she made plans to leave. Kay offered to pay for a college education, but Jill turned it down. Jill went to Phillip to say good-by, but they ended up consummating their love - which Kay witnessed.

Kay then arranged for her son Brock, who was attracted to Jill, to propose marriage. Jill accepted, and Brock married them himself. Before it was consummated, Jill found out she was pregnant, and told Phillip. Phillip was overjoyed and asked Kay for a divorce, which sent her back to the bottle. Kay signed the papers in a drunken stupor, crossing out the property settlement. Without him, she wanted nothing, not even the estate. Phillip flew to The Dominican Republic for a quickie divorce, while Jill broke the news to Brock who agreed to back out of their marriage, which was not legal anyway. Upon Phillip's return, he was met at the airport by Kay, who offered to drive him home. Kay made a last-ditch effort to convince Phillip to change his mind about their marriage. But when he turned her down, she hit the accelerator while rounding a curve, and the car sailed off a cliff. Kay sustained serious injuries, and Phillip was in critical condition. Jill hovered at his bedside. Phillip asked the hospital chaplain to marry them, and soon afterward Phillip died. Thus began the life long feud between Jill Foster and Kay Chancellor - Jill accusing Kay of murdering her true love, and Kay accusing Jill of stealing hers!

Jill delivered a son, whom she named Phillip Chancellor III. Katherine tried to buy him from Jill for a million dollars. Jill instead, sued for half of Phillip's estate. Kay hired Attorney Mitchell Sherman to have their marriage annulled, thereby stopping any inheritance to Jill or her son, due to the fact that the divorce papers were signed when Kay was drunk. In retaliation, Jill planted alcohol at the estate to knock Kay off the wagon, and attempted to drive her insane.

Next Kay fell in love with and tricked hairdresser Derek Thurston into marrying her. Derek was really in love with Jill Foster! But Derek took Kay up on her deal. If he lived with her for a year, she would set up a $100,000 trust for Jill's son and set Derek up in his own salon. Then Derek's ex-wife Suzanne Lynch arrived in town, bent on getting Derek back. She befriended Kay, and gave her candy laced with drugs, which drove Kay into a sanitarium. Kay's roommate went berserk and set fire to the room. Kay escaped, but the roommate's body was identified as Kay because she was wearing Kay's ring. Derek found himself free of both wives, inheriting the Chancellor wealth and free to marry Jill. But Kay showed up at their wedding - very much alive! Kay reclaimed her fortune and Derek, and named him head of Chancellor Industries. They went on a cruise, had a fight, Kay jumped overboard, and was rescued by Felipe Ramirez who held her captive. They fell in love, and he let her loose to return to her world where she divorced Derek.

Jill was married briefly to newspaper editor Stuart Brooks. She broke up a romance he was having with Jill's mother Liz by faking a pregnancy after a one-night stand. Stuart saw through her ruse, divorced Jill, and married Liz.

Jill next set her sights on wealthy older man, John Abbott. That marriage ended in divorce after Jill had a one-night stand with John's son Jack, got pregnant and miscarried in a suspicious fall from a ladder - never knowing which one was the father of the child. Because John did not want the facts brought out, Jill's divorce settlement gave her one-fourth of Jabot Cosmetics, a seat on the board of directors, and a cushy executive position with Jabot at $150,000 a year. Shortly after her divorce, Jill was shot, with Jack Abbott as the prime suspect. But the shooter turned out to be Sven, Jill's former masseur. After Jill recovered, Sven kidnapped her and held her prisoner in a refrigerated meat locker. She was rescued by Jack and Police Detective Carl Williams.

To everyone's surprise, Jill became a successful Jabot executive, as creator of their Men's Line. Jill's teenage son Phillip returned resentful from boarding school, and ended up moving in with Jill's nemesis Kay Chancellor. Nina Webster got pregnant by Phillip and they married, much to both Kay and Jill's dismay. Phillip had a major drinking problem though, and ended up dead at 19 years old after drunk-driving in his sports car.

Several affairs later, Jill found herself on the radar of Victor Newman. They slept together a few times and Jill assumed she would certainly be the next Mrs. Victor Newman. Hapless Jill, no more than shared her elation at the prospect with Jack, than Victor let her know that she was just a fling, and he had no real intentions where she was concerned. Mortified, Jill quickly found her way back into John's heart, and they remarried, much to his children's dismay. Jill wanted to have a baby, though John felt he was too old. But Jill managed to get pregnant before John got a secret vasectomy. When he discovered she was already pregnant, he insisted she have an abortion but Jill couldn't do it. John did wonder if Billy might actually be Victor's, since he knew they had been together in September. But when Jill giving birth to William "Billy" Abbott on the 4th of July proved it was John's. John eventually accepted Billy and came to love him. Jill's affair with Jed Sanders due to John's impotency, caused their second divorce, which resulted a bitter custody battle over Billy and causing John to have a stroke. John got custody of Billy, and unable to bear Jabot under Newman, they moved to New York City.

The next chapter in the Jill vs. Kay saga began with Jill living temporarily at the Chancellor Estate after her failed 2nd marriage to John Abbott. Living there gave Jill flashbacks to her early days of love with Phillip, which prompted her to rummage in boxes in the Chancellor attic. She found a letter from Phillip declaring his love and a deed giving her the Chancellor Estate. Jill used these and the crossed out Chancellor divorce property settlement to sue Kay in court, won half the estate, and moved back in permanently. Nothing like having two people who hate each other living under the same roof. Enter Mackenzie Browning, Kay's son Brock's long lost teenage daughter, whom Jill could not abide. Although Jill did her best to stop it, her son Billy fell in love with Mac.

The mysterious Sean Bridges, Jabot's new website designer, scoped out the options and chose "older woman" Jill Abbott as his companion. While Jill remained wary of this hot younger man and his motives, he managed to sweep her off her feet. Sean was a good influence on the embittered Jill, showing a bit of the fun-loving innocent woman she once was. Sean moved in to the Chancellor Estate and lived with Jill. But Sean finally gave up trying to get Jill to get over her paranoia over Kay and marry him, and left for New York City.

To show her gratitude, and to provide security around the Estate now filled with only women since Sean had moved out, Kay offered Ex-Con turned pussycat, Larry Warton, the garage apartment to live. Larry couldn't believe it, but insisted he couldn't live there free. They agreed on an exchange of rent for his working on Kay's 16 cars. With both bruised from their ended relationships, Larry and Jill began to bond. Chemistry flared, and it wasn't long before they ended up in bed. Jill was keeping their relationship secret, after all Larry was "so below Jill's status." But Larry was a good influence on Jill. Larry told her about his mother, who was upset with him when he first went to prison, but in the end forgave him and visited him often. This prompted Jill to give in and go say goodbye to her son Billy when, instead of going to college, he left for Louisiana to help Mac's father, Brock, build houses for the poor. Billy and his mother shared a tearful parting although Jill still felt he was making a mistake. Kay caught Larry leaving Jill's bedroom one morning via the trellis, and their secret was out. Jill made a scene denying and insulting poor Larry in front of Kay. Later, Larry showed up at the Jabot boardroom and returned the insult by spilling their secret and a box of her sex toys in front of John Abbott and Fredrick Hodges. Larry was then fired by Jill, and he talked sexual harassment lawsuit with Attorney Michael Baldwin. But Larry's feelings for Jill wouldn't let him go through with it. They eventually reconciled and Jill got Larry a job as Assistant Security Manger at Jabot.

Out of the blue in 2003, Liz arrived in Genoa City with Snapper and Greg from their home in England with the news that she was to undergo brain surgery. Knowing she may not survive, Liz felt it was time to admit to Jill that she was adopted. All she knew was that her husband Bill brought Jill home wrapped in a blanket as a baby. Jill was fraught with needing to know who she really was. Larry and John did their best to let her know that she was the same person no matter what her parentage, and they did care. The night before Liz's surgery, brothers Snapper and Greg showed up after not being seen in Genoa City in 20 years. Liz survived her surgery. After Jill and Larry's aborted attempts to con and steal her birth certificate from the hospital records, Jill's friend, banker Frederick Hodges, contacted a search agency. They were able to arrange a meeting between Jill and her birth mother, the always-tipsy, crusty, down-on-her-luck, Charlotte Ramsey. Liz gave her blessing to the meeting while Kay fumed at how Jill was so quick to abandon Liz. Jill and Charlotte were becoming close, while John Abbott was getting suspicious that Charlotte was more interested in Jill's money. John realized that he used to date Charlotte's sister Eileen in high school, and without telling Kay why, he quizzed her for what she knew about the family. Kay, after much agonizing, revealed the story of how she had once helped Eileen's sister Charlotte get an illegal abortion which she nearly died from which left her unable to have more children. John realized that there was no way then that Charlotte could be Jill's mother. John confronted Charlotte who broke down and revealed that she and Katherine "ran the town together" during a year of separation from Kay's first husband Gary who took young Brock to Europe. During that time, Kay got pregnant by Gary's golfing buddy Arthur Hendricks. To protect Katherine's reputation, Charlotte agreed to take Kay's newborn baby girl to a place to be adopted in exchange for a lot of cash and a promise to disappear. The agency refused to take the child without a name on a birth certificate, so to protect young socialite Kay, Charlotte had used her own name. Charlotte went to Kay to tell her story before John did. Kay had a stroke when she realized that the baby she gave up many years ago was now her own worst enemy Jill! Charlotte told poor Liz the truth and abruptly left town, leaving her to tell Jill that her nemesis Kay was her birth mother, and to tell Brock that Jill, the young girl he once married but fortunately never consummated, was actually his half-sister. And worst of all, Mac and Billy who were about to be married, had to be told that they were actually cousins! Mac and Billy both left town on their own, devastated by the news. Jill was left to care for Kay who could not move or talk from the stroke. Kay didn't let Jill know she was getting better, testing her to see if just maybe she might care for her like a mother. But eventually Kay showed Jill she was nearly back to normal, and thanks to the influence of Larry, Jill was able to begin to come to grips with how she really felt about Kay. Jill and Kay fought over the disruption of having Esther around, so Kay and Esther moved into the Genoa City Hotel to give Jill some space. Jill then became so obnoxious to Larry she drove him away too. Jill was very much alone and turned to the bottle a little too often. Her only friend appeared to be the shady strip club owner, Bobby Marcino.

Jill began her outlandish plans to renovate the mansion to make it her own. Once Kay saw the workmen demolishing the foyer ceiling of her beloved home, she flipped out and began drinking again after 20 years on the wagon. Jill felt guilty that she drove her newly discovered mother to drink, asked Kay to move back home, and the mansion was restored back to the way it was, but Kay was still drinking. Judge Arthur Hendricks, Jill's biological father, suddenly showed up in Genoa City to visit Kathryn after a nearly 50 year absence. Jill hoped he would be just the ticket to bring Kay back to caring about life again. Meanwhile Jill got to know her father, and he moved into the mansion. Then Mackenzie returned after spending time in the Southwestern US teaching kindergarten and preschool children on an Indian Reservation. Kay's dear friend and maid Esther became a trained alcohol abuse councilor. With her help, Jill, Arthur and Mac staged an intervention, attended by son Brock, friends Nikki Newman, Liz Foster, and Lauren Fenmore. Kay found out, and welcomed all her friends and family with a catered party with full bar! They all pleaded with Kay, then bid her farewell, and left. Alone and drunk, Kay passed out and had a vision where her dear husband Rex and Grandson Phillip returned from the dead to make one final plea. Kay awoke, sure it was a dream, until she found the glass she fell asleep with in her hand was now on the table where Rex had put it. Kay checked in to rehab and returned to the Chancellor estate clean and sober.

Jill became involved with Jack Abbott romantically once again, something they both seemed to need. While sitting in on a Chancellor Industries board meeting for Kay, Jill noticed irregularities, so decided to get more involved. With Jack's help, she discovered financial discrepancies which indicated that CEO Elliott Hampton was living high on company funds. Jill confronted the slimy Elliott, but he conned her with excuses and charm. Jill then got a tip from former mobster Bobby Marcino that someone was trying to contract a hit on her. Elliott ended up charming Jill into accepting his marriage proposal, but shortly afterward, an investigation proved that Elliott had embezzled millions. When Jill confronted him, he tried to talk her into still marrying him and running away with him and the millions. Jack arrived in time to see Jill regretfully turn him down. After Elliott fled, Jack admitted that he had gotten all of Elliott's offshore accounts frozen pending the investigation.

No sooner had Arthur proposed to Kay, than his stepson Harrison Bartlett showed up claiming that Arthur had killed his mother, Eleanor, for her fortune. Jill had Arthur investigated, but it only proved allegations were made but never proven, and Arthur was never charged. Jill and Kay confronted Arthur, but he refused to explain, saying that Bartlett had ruined his career and his life. Jill was still skeptical, but Kay was determined to take a leap of faith and marry Arthur anyway. But Arthur said goodbye and left town, saying that he couldn't live with the cloud of suspicion. Kay blamed Jill for losing Arthur, and their feud began once again.

Katherine made Jack Abbott CEO of Chancellor Industries, and Jack wrangled a deal to rescue Jabot by making it a subsidiary of Chancellor. After a failed attempt to convince Victoria Newman to return to Genoa City and become Jabot's new CEO, Jill Abbott was given the position after she and Kay finally made amends. Brad, who was expecting to get the CEO position himself, quit his job with Jabot, and considered going into business with Victoria Newman. Jack offered Victoria the position of Jill's right hand at Jabot, but Victor won her back as CEO at Newman while Nick took a leave of absence. Jill's first move as CEO was to hire Brad, but Brad later left to work at Newman with Victoria.

In 2006, only six months into his seven year prison sentence for the murder of Tom Fisher, Jill's ex-husband and still close friend, John Abbott, was about to be released early due to ill heath when he had a stroke and was rushed to GC Memorial in grave condition. The doctors made the family aware that John would never come out of his vegetative state and had signed a DNR. After much bickering between his wife Gloria and Jack, Gloria decided to use her authority in the DNR to allow John to die. Kay and Jill said their farewells to John in the hospital and he died.

Billy spent a year working on the Katrina Hurricane disaster recovery in New Orleans, then some time as a bartender at Sammy Seagull's Sandpit Bar & Grill in Miami. He returned to Genoa City in 2006 to attend his father John's funeral. Jill and Katherine encouraged him to stay and claim his legacy as both a Chancellor and an Abbott by learning the business of Chancellor Industries and Jabot Cosmetics. Billy relented and began attending GCU as a business major and working his way up at Jabot from the mail room. Billy had a bad gambling habit, and still owed some bookies in Miami a lot of money, so when no one would give him any, he stole and pawned an antique scrimshaw from the Chancellor estate. Kay discovered it and told Jill and Jack, so they gave him a job as NVP/Jabot Liaison for House of Kim, and shipped him off to Hong Kong.

Shortly after getting a DNA test that confirmed Jill was her daughter, Katherine began having disturbing nightmares of a baby crying. Through the help of psychic Silvia Brown whose card reading turned into a séance with Jill's dead son Phillip, Kay began to remember a ring and a scene where she was handing over a baby. When it finally came back to her, Kay was forced to reveal to Jill that she had switched her son Phillip for another baby shortly after his birth, and had given a woman named Violet an expensive ring to secure the deal. Because of her heavy drinking and shame, Kay had blocked this out all these years. Jill was torn between being livid with Kay and relieved that her son Phillip was not dead after all. They hired JT Helstrom to try to track down the real Phillip Chancellor III, and Amber Moore also did her own research consulting tarot cards, psychics, and the Internet. Amber found Cane whose adopted mother was named Violet. He was searching for his mother and came to Genoa City from Australia on her lead. A DNA test later proved him to be the real Phillip Chancellor, son of Jill. Violet had died while Cane was still a baby. Her brother Langley took the baby home to Australia and raised him as his own, naming him Ethan "Cane" Ashby. Dead Phillip's body was exhumed and confirmed he was not Jill's biological son. It is still unknown who the baby who grew up as Phillip really belonged to. Amber and Cane got cozy, and after she discovered the possible link to the Chancellor millions, she took him to Vegas to get married supposedly to keep him from being deported back to Australia. At the last minute Cane decided against the marriage, so Amber drugged him and got her friend Ali to take his place in disguise, telling him he was too drunk to remember being married the next morning.

Amber continued to trick her way into Cane's heart and impending fortune. She staged power outages in their apartment and a burglary at the Chancellor Estate which eventually led Katherine to ask Amber and Cane to move into the estate. Kay asked Cane to take a position with Chancellor Industries as Clear Springs Property Manager, but he refused, saying that he was not qualified and not wanting a hand-out. But he was talked into taking it temporarily until Kay could get a permanent person. Just as viewers began to trust Cane that his claim was legitimate, we overheard a phone conversation between him and his uncle Langley in Australia inferring that he was conning them. Cane finally discovered that he and Amber were not legally married, confronted her and made her sign an acknowledgement that she tricked him into marriage, then threw her out. Jill reacted nastily telling Amber it was time that Cane threw out the trash, but Kay kindly told her that she reminded her of herself, and she really needed to get her act together.

It wasn't long before Gloria set her sights on the recently widowed DA, Will Bardwell, who had just come into an inheritance. She started attending widow's grief counseling to be with him, but her competition was Jill, one of her few friends. Gloria got Kevin to monitor the security cameras at Jabot, and they discovered that Jack was the secret owner of Jabot. Using a sexual enhancement drug to make sure that Jill and Ji Min got it on in the board room, and setting the video feed to monitor them, she and Will walked in on them, and Will dumped Jill. But although Jill found out about the drugging, she and Ji Min became engaged to be married. Then Jill found out that Ji Min was actually in cahoots with Jack as a front for the illegal sale of Jabot to Jack, and had lied to her and everyone claiming he had been duped. Jill said they were through and walked out on him, but later made a deal to take him back and trust him again if he will go public about the Jabot buyout by Jack and Kay.

Victor returned from being debilitated by Epilepsy as arrogant and controlling as ever, still intent on somehow bringing Jack down. It wasn't until weeks later, and after he'd agreed to sell NVP to Nikki, that Victor discovered Jack had sold Jabot to Katherine, so he had lost his leverage over Jack. Livid with Jack, Kay, and Ji Min for outwitting him, Victor attacked Nikki for not warning him, telling her he only sold her NVP so she would have to sell her Jabot stock, then he could go after Jack, not to please her! Nikki had enough of his pompous behavior, moved out, and they divorced again. Nikki asked David Chow to work for her running NVP, and they became lovers. Meanwhile Ji Min Kim turned up dead in his room at the GC Athletic Club. Victor and Jack were prime suspects.

Due to a mini-stroke, Katherine decided it was time to put her house in order. She took a liking to Amber, seeing a lot of herself in her, and hired her to assist in writing her memoires, and also investing in Amber's designer fashion line. Kay made Jill CEO of Chancellor Industries, Cane Director of Acquisitions and later Vice President of Jabot, and made Nikki Newman CEO of Jabot. Nikki hired her lover David Chow as Co-CEO and Brad Carlton as another Jabot executive. Jill was micro-managing Jabot, not being confident in Nikki's abilities. Jill later fired Gloria for incompetence, but Gloria talked Kay into rehiring her as the Jabot receptionist. Jill came on hot & heavy to the newly divorced Jeff, seducing him in her office chair, but it wasn't long before he finally realized that the woman he wanted was Gloria. Jeff broke it off with Jill, and Jill took it out on Gloria, treating her like a slave. Jeff asked Gloria to start over together and they were remarried by Little Richard in Las Vegas. Not long after they returned to Genoa City, Jill fired Gloria.

Investigation by the DA's office concluded that David had been the murderer of Ji Min Kim. It seems Ji Min unknowingly borrowed money from mobster Walter Palin to finance a House of Kim in the US. When Ji Min discovered he was dealing with the mob, he backed out of the deal, so David Chow was contracted to put a hit on Ji Min.

After David was killed and Nikki was fired, Jill made Cane CEO of Jabot Cosmetics. Brad was furious, and took his story about Jill and David to Restless Style magazine/webzine for an expose. As a result Jill was put under investigation by the SEC. In retaliation against Brad, Jill made a deal to get off by exposing Brad for his financial relationship with David Chow. The FBI investigation found money given to Chow by Brad ended up with the mob when he gave it to Walter Palin AKA Tony Amato, and Brad was arrested for money-laundering.

Billy reunited with his mother Jill and finally met her other son, his half-brother Cane. Billy's other half-brother Jack convinced him to move back to Genoa City and help him get Jabot back into the Abbott family, and get back at Cane for usurping his life, by going to work at Jabot again. Cane invited Billy and "his girlfriend" over for drinks to get to know him and his wife Chloe, unaware that his ex-wife Amber was Billy's girlfriend, and that Chloe was a former lover of Billy's. Billy confronted Chloe the next day accusing her of just wanting to bag a Chancellor. Billy tried to convince Cane that he didn't mind that Cane took over Jabot, and Cane talked Billy into taking the Director of Marketing position, with emphasis on the new teen line Starblaze.

Katherine began having some recurring memory loss, but was covering it up pretty well. Gloria took advantage, pulling tricks to convince Kay she was losing it in an attempt to get enough of Kay's Jabot stock to have controlling interest. Kevin helped her once by moving Kay's car to make her think she'd misplaced it, but Jana found out and disapproved. Luckily Jill caught and stopped them, just as Kay was signing over the stock. Esther, Cane, and Jill wondered if Kay was still capable of driving, let alone overseeing Chancellor and Jabot even with Jill and Cane in charge of each, so Jill took away Kay's keys. Jeffrey spotted Marge drunk and assumed it was Kay. Kay got $75,000 in cash from the bank to get Marge into rehab, but on her way she left the bag with the money at Crimson Lights, and Kevin, unable to catch her, was keeping it in his safe. Jill and a Chancellor lawyer forced Kay to get checked out for her memory problems. While waiting for the doctor, Kay showed Nikki how bad she gets by referring to Nikki’s dead husband David as though he were still alive. After seeing the doctor, Kay talked them into giving her another day to check into the hospital so that she could secretly help Marge, then disappeared. Jeff convinced Gloria, Nikki, and Esther that Kay was drinking again. Actually Kay and Marge were in a bad car accident on the way to rehab. Kay was thrown clear, but Marge was found dead in the car by Nikki and Jill who were out looking for Kay. Not knowing about Marge's reappearance, they assumed it was Kay's body. A funeral was held, and several people from Kay's past attended; her son Brock, her late grandson Phillip's wife Nina, her step-son and daughter Danny and Gina, her attorney Mitchell, and her old friends Liz Foster, Traci and Ashley Abbott, and Dina Mergeron. Daniel Romalotti sketched a picture of Kay which was framed on her casket.

Kay's will was read, and Brock received one percent of her billion-dollar-plus assets in trust to continue his good works and was named Chairman of the Chancellor Foundation. Her step-children Gina and Danny received a one-half of one percent in cash. Esther received one tenth of one percent and Kay’s half of the estate, so that Esther could live her life in financial freedom. Nikki received all of Katherine's jewelry, including a family heirloom emerald and diamond ring given to Kay by her mother. Grandchildren Cane, Billy, McKenzie, and Phillip received one-quarter of one percent in trust. Katherine left one fifth of one percent to Amber, so that she and Daniel could pursue their artistic goals, and gave Amber the sole rights to her memoirs, which Jill had forbidden her to publish. Jill was left the remainder of the assets, all but five percent of Kay's Jabot stock. That five percent, in addition to a Ming vase, was left to Gloria as both were given to her by John Abbott. Jill was livid, knowing that the Chancellors now were no longer majority stockholders. Chloe announced that her baby was going to be a girl and her middle name would be Katherine.

Esther and Jill had a rough time getting used to being housemates rather than maid and owner, but Esther held her ground. Meanwhile Kay was found by Marge's friend Murphy lying by the creek near the accident. He took her home to his house trailer and nursed her back to health. But Kay's memory was fuzzy, she was trying to be Marge working at the diner, and trying to remember her life.

A Jabot shareholders meeting was called, and to Jill’s shock, Gloria and Jeff Bardwell and Billy Abbott, with the majority of Jabot shares and proxies from Traci and Ashley, announced their takeover. Jack was present, and Jill reminded them that he was still legally banned from having anything to do with Jabot. Total confusion about who was now in charge was calmed when Ashley Abbott arrived and announced that she was once again the rightful CEO of Jabot.

Katherine's book of memoirs "Live Until I Die" came out in time for Christmas 2008. Kay fell on the ice at Murphy's, hit her head, and when she came to, partial memories began returning. She suddenly declared to Murphy that she was actually Katherine Chancellor. Murph didn't believe her but found the obituary with a photo that looked like Marge and the story of the accident which occurred near where he found her. Sad that it meant his friend Marge was probably dead instead, he agreed to accompany her to the mansion. Murphy felt uncomfortable there and left Kay expecting to be welcomed from the daughter she remembered as Jill. But Jill refused to believe Kay, and Kay could not convince her with the little bit of memory intact, and Jill called the police who threw Kay in jail. While visiting his mother Gloria in jail, Kevin met the woman posing as Kay Chancellor. He and Gloria believed her, and Kevin and Jana, joining forces with Amber and Daniel, used Kay's money to bail her out of jail and hired Michael to represent her to prove that she was Katherine.

Jeffrey and Jill each wooed Gloria to sell her Jabot shares, and Jack also offered to drop the charges if she sold to him, but she sold them to Victor instead for money deposited in an offshore account. Ever plotting against Jack Abbott, Victor offered Jabot to Jill if she would seat Billy as CEO, then all the Abbotts, including Jack, could stay on board. Jill accepted the offer and justified Billy's appointment to Cane because Billy was an Abbott.

Meanwhile, Gina's ex-husband Clint got out of prison and returned to Genoa City plotting to get some of the Chancellor fortune. Clint found out that Katherine was assumed dead, and that Esther inherited one tenth of one percent of Kay's assets and Kay’s half of the mansion. But he also heard the rumor that it was Marge who was killed, and that Kay was trying to convince everyone that she was still alive, so he instructed his cohort Roger Wilkes to woo Esther and marry her as fast as possible or he may have to do something to keep Kay from "coming back from the dead". Clint kidnapped Kay just before the DNA proof results were due. Kay told Clint that she remembered kneeing him in the groin after she was freed from the first kidnapping, which convinced Clint that she was Kay and not Marge. But surprisingly, the DNA results between Kay and Jill did not match. Then Roger and Esther's marriage plans were delayed when her daughter Chloe went into labor at the Abbott lake cabin and nearly died from loss of blood and septicemia. But a week later with Chloe and baby doing fine, Roger surprised Ester with a Justice of the Peace and impromptu wedding in her hospital room. The next day Chloe admitted to Ester that the baby was not Cane's. Then when Billy showed up, Esther realized he was Cordelia's father. Unknown to them, Cane contacted Michael to get custody of Cordelia, and Billy contacted Rafe to see what his rights were too. Since Cane was divorcing Chloe and they had nowhere to go, Esther brought Chloe and her granddaughter home to the estate, and Jill offered them space in her wing so she could be closer to her granddaughter. Jill gave Esther the results of Paul's investigation proving Roger was a bigamist who made a living marrying rich women, but Esther would not believe it. Meanwhile back at the hotel, Kay's captor Annie had been reading Katherine's book and admiring her. Kay began to convince her that she was really Katherine, and that Annie was being used by Clint and Roger - to which Annie admitted that she was the first and only legal Mrs. Roger Wilkes. Roger left the estate, with Esther following him to the hotel where they were holding Kay. Roger walked in on an untied Kay, who had just convinced Annie to escape with her. Esther walked in and joyfully realized Kay was still alive. The three women were about to leave as Clint arrived, stopped and threatened them. Meanwhile, Amber and Kevin realized that the first letter of every sentence of the note "Marge" left when she disappeared spelled out CLINT.

Meanwhile Gloria got out of jail and her first act as a free woman was to visit Jeffrey, and finding him in bed with Jill, had a fight with her, then left. Jill resented that she was being played, but after getting one up on Gloria, she decided to stay and enjoy it. The next time Jill saw him though, she told Jeffrey to forget it, she was not interested in playing his games. Jeff went back to Gloria, and Gloria told him she'd signed the divorce papers and never wanted to see him again.

Clint met Amber at a bar hoping to convince her that he had witnessed Kay leaving town. As Clint left, Gina spotted him and warned Amber and Kevin that he was her dangerous scammer ex-husband. Kevin and Amber tracked him down to the hotel where he was holding Kay and Esther, but Annie bluffed them into leaving. Kevin returned later, and Clint captured him too. Clint, Annie and Roger left Kay and Esther in the hotel room with a bomb rigged to go off, drugging and framing Kevin for it, and taking him along locked in the trunk of the car. Amber and Gloria arrived in time to untie Kay and Esther, the bomb went off, but no one was seriously hurt. Thanks to the jolt of the bomb blast, Kay’s memory returned, and her memory of Nikki calling drunk from Mexico when she thought Victor was dead managed to convince Nikki that she was really Kay. Together they connived to get a strand of Jill’s hair for another DNA test but it too proved no match to Kay’s DNA. Victor also realized she was Kay, so he made a deal with Jill to agree to exhume the body in Kay's grave to prove who it was, in exchange for his Jabot stock. The test proved that Jill was not a match to her either, but when Brock arrived a blood test proved he was Kay's son, which ultimately meant that Jill was not Katherine's daughter after all. Meanwhile, Murphy proposed to Kay and she accepted. Kay tried to assure Jill that she still loved her like a daughter, and that nothing needed to change, but Jill was having none of it, accusing Kay of marrying "trailer trash" just like she scorned Jill for being, so they ended up in a wedding cake fight at Billy and Chloe's wedding over it.

Jill informed Billy that she was replacing him with Cane as Jabot CEO due to his lack of maturity, although Billy could still be in charge of Jabot's international sales division, but Billy quit on the spot, and told Jill that she would never see Delia again. Cane was thrilled when Jill told him she was reappointing him to the CEO position at Jabot. Later, Jill fired Jack and Ashley, telling them they were living in the past and unable to embrace new ideas. Jack told Ashley not to worry, once Katherine was proven alive she would reinstate them, and with the help of Jack's new PR person Mary Jane, Kay did make Jack CEO of Jabot again.

Kay's attorney Mitchell Sherman arranged for Kay's death certificate and will to be nullified, and all bequests to be returned. After this invalidated Jill’s claim on Jabot and Victor turned her down to work at Newman, she teamed up with Gloria and Jeffrey, since Gloria cannot access all the money she was paid for her shares, to get back at Victor for using them all.

Kay invited the governor to dinner to request amnesty for Kevin and Amber, but Jill told him this would ruin his career, and when Kevin and Amber showed up she maligned them and Katherine in front of him. Jill came onto the governor, took him into another room, and he came out very happy and Jill gloating that she changed his mind. While Kay and Jill were sparing, Murphy convinced him to grant the amnesty with the gift of his military rifle from one Korean Vet to another.

Cane and Lily were married in the Catholic Church, Lily in her mother’s wedding gown and favorite pin in her hair. Their reception was held at Indigo, where Jill asked Cane to consider taking the Chancellor name, Kay agreed, saying she always thought of Phillip as her own, and Cane too.

Gloria was found guilty of tainting the face cream in the civil suit, and Jabot was awarded double damages, but Jeff revealed he had divorced her to protect her assets. They and Jill got news that their bank in Grand Cayman was about to go under, thanks to their largest investor, Victor Newman, pulling out when he heard it was in trouble. Jeff, Gloria, and Jill went to the Caymans to get their money, but were too late, lost everything, and were stuck there. A frantic phone call by Jill got Jack to bail them out by arranging for a less than luxurious trip home. Luckily Jill had moved back into the Chancellor mansion. Jill arrived home just in time for Cane and Lily's wedding.

Nina returned to Genoa City to do a screenplay adaptation of Katherine's memoirs, and was skeptical of Cane's story and questioned him about it. Cane called "his uncle Langley" in Australia saying, "Phillip, your wife is going to find out you're still alive", but he told Cane not to worry, it would lead nowhere and blow over. Paul found out that Violet was in a hospital in Arizona at the time of the baby switch, so that part of Cane's story was a lie, but Jill and Kay refused to believe that Cane not genuine. Nina was anxious to identify her son's father to find out if he had the gene to confirm or rule out his possible diagnosis of Huntington's disease. When she called the lab to get the remains from the prior exhumation re-examined, she was told they had no remains, nor any record of it at all in their files. So she had the body exhumed again, opened the coffin and found it empty. Further tests showed there had never been a body in that coffin, just the bags of sand to give it weight. Meanwhile Cane was frantically trying to get hold of "Langley. Jill reluctantly requested another DNA test, and Cane was seen pulling a vial of blood from a freezer of dry ice marked “Langley”. The blood test was done at the Chancellor estate, but Cane distracted everyone while he substituted the blood vials.

Jeffrey met with Victor, showed him a photo of Victor hugging Mary Jane, and offered to not show it to Ashley if Victor would pay him, Gloria, and Jill an amount equal to what they lost in the offshore bank, thanks to him. Victor sneered at him, "You don't know who you're dealing with.", and went to Jill. Jill offered to settle for Victor giving her a job at Newman.

Then Paul delivered more news to Nina; tests showed the blood had been frozen, so Nina confronted Cane asking where he got the blood to pass the test. Cane admitted to Nina that he was a fraud in front of Kay, Jill, Murphy, Chloe, Neil and Lily, saying it was not for the money, he never wanted to hurt anyone, only meant to heal them, and they became family to him. When asked how Cane could do this to the people who gave him nothing but love, Jill’s son Phillip emerged say that he did it, it was his doing. All were aghast to see Phillip again, still alive! Katherine had another mini-stroke and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Murphy, Jill and Nina were with her when Phillip arrived and assured everyone he was very much alive, explaining that at 19 he found himself overwhelmed with responsibilities as a young executive at Chancellor and a new father, an alcoholic in depression attempted suicide by crashing his sports car. When he awoke still alive in the hospital, he managed to pay off a doctor and a policeman to aid in faking his death, then escaped to Australia and began a new life as Langley. Five years ago he met Cane who came to work for Phillip as a bartender in Phillip’s bar, and they became friends. Cane had grown up alone without a family and helped Phillip realize what he had must have put everyone through with his death. So they concocted the plan to give Jill and Kay a new son in Cane, making them all happy. He told Nina that he justified leaving her and their son because they would both be better off without him. Meanwhile back at the Chancellor Estate, Lily was crushed that Cane had lied to her for years, Neil told him to stay away from Lily, and Billy arrived in time to punch him out. Then Phillip dropped the bomb on Nina, telling her that another reason he was so desperate to die or to leave was that he was, and is, gay!

A few days later, Cane came to the Chancellor Mansion to say goodbye and apologize to Kay and Jill. Phillip tried to get them to stop Cane from leaving, reminding them didn't they love him just a few days ago? But Cane slipped out while they were welcoming Nina's son Phillip I (who now is called Chance) who returned from Iraq unexpectedly finding his supposedly dead father as part of his welcome home. Chance's reaction was abnormally calm as he shook his father's hand, saying he was relieved, that dead people never came back where he'd just been. Phillip gave them all some relief by announcing the results of his blood test, that he was not a Huntington's carrier.

Katherine told Phillip that what he did to them was unforgivable. But after what Cane did to save Lily by getting her to return and have surgery, that he was a good man, she forgave Cane and asked him to stay in Genoa City. Billy was livid that his "fake brother" was once again the favored son and grandson. Thanks to a comment from Cane, Billy made Jill admit how Victor had coerced her into firing everyone at Jabot, stealing the Abbott family company away from them, and putting Billy in charge as a figurehead. Billy reacted by interrupting the Newman board meeting and exposing Victor’s part in this in front of Ashley.

Nina convinced Chance to meet with his father and get to know him. Phillip explained to him that he was gay and why he left, but Chance failed to see it as anything but irresponsible, though he appreciated his coming back to take the Huntington’s test for him. Phillip offered to stay in town, and they shook hands. Phillip went home and commiserated with Jill about what lousy parents they both were, but he offered forgiveness, knowing she did the best she knew how. And in exchange Jill forgave him for faking his death. Nina admitted to Chance that despite it all, she still loved his father Phillip.

Still penniless and without a job, Jill humbled herself and took a manicurist job at Lucky Nails. She managed to be undiscovered for weeks until Gloria came in for a manicure and ridiculed her, threatening to tell everyone. Kay asked her for her $100,000 share of the mansion taxes, so Jill desperately tried to get in on Gloria and Jeff’s latest scam to blackmail Victor Newman. After that failed, Gloria appeared to have given up on her life of trickery and went to Jill for a job at the nail salon where she was sweeping floors. But she quit when Deacon Sharpe offered her five million dollars to get a stolen painting from a safe deposit box in Detroit that belonged to her late husband Tom. When Katherine asked where she could find Jill, Gloria sent her to the nail salon. Shocked to find Jill working there, Jill explained while she did Kay's nails. Katherine was touched and handed her a tip as she left – a check for $100,000 to pay her taxes. Phillip, Nina and Chance threw Jill a birthday dinner, Kay was a surprise guest, and her gift to Jill was a card requesting she return to work at Chancellor. Kay later made her an equal partner with Jack over Jabot, and hired Neil Winters as CEO. Jack later found out that Katherine was taking Chancellor Industries public and she was aware that he was hoping to get enough shares to get Jabot back for his family. But Kay was approached by Tucker McCall and ended up selling all the shares to him instead.

Billy Abbott bought out Restless Style magazine/webzine, Billy’s first issue became an exposé of Victor Newman's role in Colleen Carlton's death then to be kept alive by the donation of Colleen's heart, plus his part in the failure of the bank in Grand Cayman. The SEC investigated and ordered Victor to repay the Cayman bank depositors for their losses, including Jill, Gloria and Jeffrey. Just in time to save them from eviction, Jeff and Gloria were overjoyed to be rich again.

Lily was undergoing chemo treatments for her cancer, but careful as they were, Lily got an infection and was hospitalized. At her worst, Jill was there for Cane who she still considers a son, and Neil realized how much Cane really loved her, then as she began to recover they decided to start looking for a surrogate rather than wait until Lily would be strong enough to carry their child.

Jill and Katherine mended fences and admitted that they felt like mother and daughter again. But Jill decided it was time Kay found her real daughter that she gave to Charlotte Ramsey, so hired Paul to investigate, swearing him to secrecy from Kay. Paul discovered that Charlotte had not only disappeared, but every record, every trace of her was also gone. He tracked down the daughter who had been given to the Gray Nuns at the Sisters of Charity orphanage near the Canadian border, and Jill presented her name and whereabouts as a gift to Kay for Christmas 2009. Jill and Kay flew to South Dakota and met JoAnn "JoJo" Glover, proprietor of JoJo’s Bail Bonds. JoAnn was a tough crude woman with a police record of assault, weapons possession, and grand theft. She did 10 years in Federal prison in Dublin, CA. for extortion, money laundering, trafficking in stolen goods, and was involved in a motorcycle gang Federal RICO prosecution. They told JoAnn she was Kay’s daughter and brought her home for a visit. It wasn’t long before they were insisting on a DNA test, in hopes they could prove she was not Kay’s daughter. JoJo refused, so Murphy got a DNA sample from one of her beer bottles. Jill met wealthy industrialist Tucker McCall on a business trip, but he let her assume he was just a bartender, and they had an affair. Tucker soon showed up at Chancellor to advise Kay and Neil to buy out a company named “Cell Tron” with Chancellor stock. Jill was shocked to walk in on the meeting and discover who Tucker really was, but he managed to talk his way out of it later, and they continued their affair. When the DNA test proved JoJo was not Kay's daughter, it was discovered that Tucker had set JoJo up as part of his plot to get revenge on Kay because HE was her missing child! Another DNA test proved it. Tucker turned out to be the only stockholder in “Cell Tron”, so owned majority interest in Chancellor, which devastated Katherine. When Kay found out about Tucker and Jill’s relationship, she accused Jill of being in on his plot, and fired her from Jabot and Chancellor. Victor and Adam staged a public fight and Victor ran an article in Restless Style exposing Adam as part of Nick’s idea to get Chancellor back to Kay. So Tucker’s first steps were to hire Adam Newman, JT Hellstrom, and Kevin Fisher, dump Jill as a lover, and sell Jabot. Because Victor got Adam to disclose the sealed bids, Newman was able to outbid the Abbotts for Jabot, and Victoria was to be made CEO. Jack was livid when Victor fired him, accusing Victor of dirty dealing, and Ashley gave Victor back his ranch in disgust. Jill talked Billy into hiring her at Restless Style, and worked together to expose Tucker. Kay, also trying to get something on Tucker to get Chancellor back, discovered that Tucker paid off Alexander Thomas, the Cultural Minister of Yugoslavia with a Griffin painting worth millions to promote the band 25 years ago which launched his career. She confronted Tucker and threatened to ruin him with a charge of international corporate bribery. But her guilt over abandoning him as a baby got the best of her, and she backed off. After signing over Jabot to Victor, Tucker received word that Jack had gotten a judge to block the sale pending investigation of Adam’s part in it. When Tucker realized that Kay had given up the chance to get Chancellor back he stopped the pending sales of other Chancellor assets, and made a deal with Kay to buy enough shares to be equal partners in Chancellor. Kay and Tucker got close, and Kay talked him into selling her 51%. Jill got jealous, and went ahead with the story to expose Tucker. Tucker thought they had tricked him, and prepared to sell all the Chancellor assets within the thirty days before sale closed. Kay swore Jill acted alone and Jill confirmed it, and later Tucker made a substantial donation to Kay’s annual charity ball which benefitted the homeless, so she was hoping she had convinced him. But weeks later Tucker informed Kay that he wanted Jabot or he would expose the security tape he had of Adam opening the sealed bids which would invalidate the sale to Victor. Kay capitulated, and Tucker asked Ashley to be the CEO of Jabot.

Victoria Newman Helstrom was arrested for the murder of her half-brother Adam. At her arraignment, Billy interrupted proclaiming her innocence because she was in his hotel room at the time of the murder, but Victoria refused to admit it was true. Meanwhile Jill was reporting this latest Newman scandal on the Restless Style website, and was Twittering updates, for which Billy later fired her.

Months later, Tucker wanted a favor of J.T. for helping J.T. get custody of Reed. He needed information from Victoria’s files on a deal that Victor made years ago with Mitsukoshi department stores which made the legal problems go away to create Newman’s Beauty of Nature line. After Billy caught J.T. typing on Victoria’s laptop, and having secretive meetings with Tucker, Billy rehired Jill and assigned her to investigate what was going on between Tucker and the Newmans.

In June 2010, Jill’s mother Liz returned to Genoa City to see Jill, but was carried off the plane on a stretcher, accompanied by Snapper. Jill and Kay met them at the hospital, Greg arrived later. Liz was diagnosed by Snapper with Wegener's disease – a rare, autoimmune disease. Fearing she may die, Liz confided one last secret about Jill’s parentage to Snapper. Snapper confided it in Kay, saying that he knew what it was like to regret keeping a secret, as he did with his son Chuckie, so he intended to tell Jill the truth. Each of them spent some final time with Liz talking mostly about the past and Jill. Later as she was about to finally tell the secret to a very distraught Jill, Liz passed away. Afterward, Snapper told Jill that her real father was a very young Neil Fenmore who had gotten a girl pregnant. Neil’s family had refused to let him marry the girl, so she abandoned her baby at the hospital and committed suicide. Lauren was disbelieving when Jill told her the circumstances that made them half-sisters, but later looking at old photos of her deceased father, she shared the news with Michael. Michael promised to find out the truth. Jill returned home with the news that she had spoken to Lauren as Snapper and Greg were preparing to leave since Liz had requested no services to be held. Kay let them know that she would look out for Jill. A DNA test proved Liz’s story was true. But Lauren told Jill she was not interested in welcoming her to the family, so Jill consulted a lawyer about her legal options. At Kay & Murphy’s 4th of July picnic Jill announced how proud she was to be a Fenmore, and that she had legally changed her name to Jill Fenmore. Tucker, from his similar experience, advised her to be herself instead, that she was one of a kind. Nikki took Jill to task and they fought about each other’s jaded pasts, and Lauren told her taking the name would never make her a Fenmore.

Because Tucker’s snooping was making Victor suspicious, Victoria traveled to Japan for him with a rare gift to ensure their deal with Mitsukoshi department stores remained intact, and Billy tagged along. Just before she left for her meeting with Mitsukoshi’s representative, Tucker and Ashley greeted them in the hotel bar. After returning to Genoa City, Billy found on the Internet that the gift, which he had peeked at, was a priceless antique gun. Tucker made a deal with Jill to find out what the gift was in exchange for a detective to get more information on Jill’s real parents. Guessing Billy’s password, Jill found the gun in his web search history, and gave the information to Tucker. Tucker confronted Victor with it hoping he could leverage him into giving up the Newman cosmetics line, but instead Victor went to the authorities and explained the illegal gift. Billy fired Jill when he found what she had done.

Jill’s lawyer Morgan Belford, filed a lawsuit to get half the inheritance that Lauren had received after their father Neil’s death. Lauren tried an amicable settlement, but Jill thought she was faking the peace offering, and pulled another publicity stunt, an interview at Neil’s gravesite. Lauren showed up, they fought on the air, and Lauren shoved Jill into an open grave. They went to court and Jill’s lawyer put Lauren’s mother, Joanna Manning, on the stand. She told how Neil brooded about his illegitimate daughter throughout their marriage, and his guilt was responsible for turning Lauren into a spoiled brat. After Neil recovered from learning Jill’s mother had died, he tried to track down the child and failed. Joanna claimed Neil cared more for a dead woman and her child than his wife, which was they divorced when Lauren was only a little girl and she stayed with her father. The judge ruled that Neil knew of another child when wrote will saying, “Any and all of my living heirs” and awarded 50% of his assets to Jill. Lauren caught her mother as they left court asking how she could be so cruel to her own daughter, did she even know that Lauren and been kidnapped a few months ago? Lauren told Joanna to go back to her villa and her younger men and stay out of her life. Michael drew up the papers and Lauren and Jill signed, giving Jill her rightful place running Fenmore’s with Lauren.

Needing money to pay off Blake Joseph, one of the cattle rustlers who had been after Cane in Australia, Cane checked the Internet for how to take on a new identity. Cane located the name of a dead person named James Collier and ordered a copy of his birth certificate. Cane presented Sofia with a resume for James Collier and convinced her to hire him sight unseen, intending to do Collier’s work himself, and using Collier’s paycheck to pay the blackmail.

Jill invited Cane to dinner to meet a new man in her life who was also Australian. Cane was shocked when the man turned out to be his own father, Colin Atkinson. When the two men were alone, Colin said that he would forgive Cane for ratting him out and sending him to prison, if Cane would come back and take his rightful place in the family organized crime business in Australia. Colin reminded Cane that he came from a wealthy family, not poor and parentless as he claimed, then showed him a photo of his younger sister Samantha. Cane reminded Colin that he had ruined her life and that she was dead because of him. Colin threatened Cane that he would use Cane’s secrets to persuade him to return, saying that Katherine should know that Cane was embezzling money from Tucker, and Jill that he was Colin’s son. Cane refused and told him to stay away from Jill and his family. But like Blake had ingratiated himself to Lily, Colin got close to Jill and they became lovers that same evening.

The time came when Blake was assigned a project that Cane was not expert enough to handle, and Sofia and Neil were ready to fire Blake. But Sofia got Cane to admit that Blake was a fraud, and after hearing the story behind it, she agreed to help him get the blackmailers paid off to protect his family from harm. Colin put more pressure on Cane by asking Jill to marry him, and she accepted. Tucker discovered that Blake was a fraud. He called in Sofia, and when she tried to explain, he fired her and Cane. Sofia confessed her part in the hoax to Malcolm, then Neil, saying that she only wanted to help Cane who was a good man in a rough place.

Colin ordered Blake to go home to Brisbane, but asked him for one last favor before he left; to keep Cane from interrupting his wedding to Jill. Cane went home to tell Lily the truth about him and that Colin was his father, but she was at the church waiting for him, ready to forgive him. So Cane wrote a note for Lily and made a video for the kids, just in case he never saw them again. As Jill and Colin said their vows, Cane walked up the steps of the church, followed by Blake. Lily walked out the front door and saw them fighting. Blake turned the gun on Lily to stop Cane, but Cane jumped Blake to protect his family. The gun went off shooting Cane in the chest, and Blake fell down the steps, breaking his neck and died as he landed. Lily slipped on the ice, and the twin’s carriage went careening down the steps, but Neil arrived in time to catch it and save the twins. Cane lay on the steps bleeding as Jill and Colin walked out of the church married. Lily and Jill cradled Cane’s body and begged him to hold on as Neil called 9-1-1. Colin looked dazed as he watched his son dying. Lily told Cane she forgave him and loved him, and Cane breathed his last breath telling Lily that he loved her. The paramedics arrived, but they could not revive Cane.

Malcolm and Sofia arrived at the church and took the babies home, and when they walked into the house, a gust of wind blew Cane’s note between the furniture and the wall. Neil took a sobbing Lily into the church to talk. Jill and Colin went home to the Chancellor estate covered in blood, and told Kay, Murphy, and Billy that Cane was dead. Billy went to console Lily, and promised her that he would write an article on Cane’s heroism. While Kay and Jill hugged and commiserated their loss, Colin went to the morgue to identify the body. He apologized to his son, saying that because of him, both his son and his daughter had been gunned down in the street. Colin promised Cane that his children would be spared from his destructive life. Later Lauren arrived at the estate to console Jill. Chance said he was there to help Jill get over Cane, and to help Ronan. Jill was miffed that everyone seemed to know but her that Chance had not died, but was just relived to have him back.

Nate Hastings returned to Genoa City, now a Rheumatology specialist practicing in Boston, to perform the partial liver transplant on Ronan, using part of Chance's liver. In the waiting room were Jill, Paul, Heather, Nina, Phillip who had arrived from his home in Australia, Kay with Murphy who had just been told about Chance, and Chloe, who was told when she arrived wondering why everyone was there. Chance came through the surgery fine. Chance laid low living at the Chancellor estate, and discussed going back into the witness protection program with Heather. Heather decided that she did not love Chance enough to give up her life to follow him, so they broke up. Chance then informed his family that he had re-enlisted in the Army. Although broken-hearted and fearful that he was leaving them again by putting his life on the line while deployed to the Middle East, Nina, Phillip, Jill, and Katherine threw a going away Memorial Day pool party, raised a flag, and proudly sent him on his way.

Jill asked Colin about his family, and he admitted that his son and daughter Samantha were both dead. Jill remembered that Cane had known Samantha, and asked how it could be then that Colin did not know Cane. Colin replied that he and his daughter had been estranged, so he had not known any of her friends. Colin later told Jill that Samantha had gotten in with a bad crowd, and that Cane had tried to get her out, but she had been killed.

Colin met Cane in the park calling Cane "Caleb", who was Cane's evil twin, and Colin admitted that he had planned the gunning down of Cane on the church steps. They discussed their plan to convince everyone that Lily was insane, so that they could return to Australia with the twins.

Meanwhile "Caleb" met with his mother, Genevieve, who reminded him that she was in charge, as she recalled witnessing Caleb shoot at Cane years ago, but Samantha had been killed instead. Genevieve revealed that Caleb, after drugging Cane, had taken his place and showed up at the church. But Colin had arranged for Cane to be gunned down, not realizing that Caleb was the one who was killed on the church steps. Genevieve had found Cane, and he let everyone believe that Cane was dead, and began working with Genevieve plotting to have Colin be arrested for kidnapping the twins to finally get some justice for Samantha.

After bidding Jill a passionate farewell telling her he was leaving town on business, Colin managed to convince Neil to allow him and Jill to take the twins for the night, but instead he took them to the McMillan estate where a plane was to pick up him, "Caleb", and the twins to leave for Australia. Jill got suspicious and followed him to the estate. Meanwhile Neil found the note that Cane had left for Lily the night of his "death" which admitted that Colin was his father and that he had a twin named Caleb. Neil called Jill and explained, and she told him where she was and that Colin had the twins on an airstrip. Stalling for time while Neil called the police, Jill confronted Colin. Cane walked up, and Jill pretended to faint at the sight of him. Jill listened to them talk of their plan, then accused Colin of using her, before she ran off into the woods.

Colin was lured into the mansion by music that he recognized, where he found Samantha's urn on the mantel and a chalk outline on the floor covered in photos of her. Colin called out, and Genevieve appeared telling him that she was there for revenge and justice. She shoved him during their argument, and Colin fell over the balcony. Jill arrived and tried to rescue Colin who was holding on to the edge by his hands. As Genevieve told Jill that she was Colin's wife, Colin lost his grip and fell. The police and an ambulance arrived, and they took Colin to the hospital.

Lily arrived with Daniel, and Neil held her back as Cane jumped the pilot before he could take off with the twins in the plane. The pilot dropped his cigarette which ignited leaking gasoline, but Cane subdued the pilot and drove the stroller into the woods just in time. Cane convinced Lily that he was her husband with things that only he would know. Finally Lily believed him, but feeling betrayed she refused to forgive him.

Later Jill arrived at Colin's hospital room and found Genevieve passionately kissing Colin as he lay in his bed with his face scraped raw and cracked ribs. Colin got rid of Genevieve and tried to explain to Jill that although their relationship had begun as a means to an end, he had fallen in love with her. Kay was there for Jill as she tried to recover from being duped by Colin, and they dealt with their feelings for the Cane, the man they had thought of as a son and grandson. Colin was quickly freed when he was given diplomatic immunity, but both he and Cane were continually rebuffed by Jill, Katherine, and Lily as they told him to get out of their lives. Lily then had a restraining order served against Colin.

Months went by with Colin doing his best to woo Jill back, and Genevieve her best to stop it from happening. Finally Colin told Genevieve that he was filing for divorce, and she reacted violently, smashing everything in sight at her mansion. After Colin told Jill about the impending divorce, she succumbed to his advances. Genevieve found out and in turn succumbed to Jack's. The two pairs of lovers and former lovers continually crossed paths, always with the women seething at each other. Then Jack chose Genevieve as the new Jabot Cosmetics director of marketing. Meanwhile Katherine chose Jill for the same position. When the two met at the office for their first day, there were fireworks between them. Jack and Katherine compromised and made them co-directors sharing an office. Colin dropped by while Genevieve was out, so Jill and Colin christened the office by having sex on Genevieve's desk.

After Jill arranged for Genevieve to go on a month long business trip in Jill's place, Genevieve locked Colin in her wine cellar. Trapped alone without even his cell phone to call for help, Colin found an electrical panel and managed to set off the alarm. The alarm company called Gloria since she was their last contact as the realtor. Gloria found Colin, but she let the door slam behind her, locking herself inside with Colin; and being underground, her cell phone got no service. Colin and Gloria found a secret room that appeared to have been a speakeasy. Then after Gloria passed out drunk sampling the wine, Colin found a vault containing a book that listed all his bank accounts. Later a note was slipped though the door that said that Genevieve had trapped him there while she was emptying out his bank accounts.

Paul discovered that Colin had not used his airline ticket. Cane guessed that Genevieve had trapped Colin in the wine cellar, he took Jill there, and they let Colin and Gloria out. As Colin checked his drained bank accounts, Cane met with Ronan about getting evidence against Colin to get him sent back to prison. Cane went back to the cellar, found the vault and blew it open, finding the bank records which he turned over to Ronan. Ronan turned Colin's books over to the FBI to try to decipher their code. Meanwhile Colin discovered that Genevieve had been transferring money from his secret bank accounts. Jill asked Colin to move back in with her at the Chancellor estate. The first call on the FBI wiretap of Colin's phone, overheard him putting a hit on Genevieve and Gloria. Colin arranged for the women to be at Genevieve's mansion later in the day, but they were not there when Lily arrived. Cane rescued Lily just as the mansion exploded.

Ronan and Chance met them outside. Chance had been reassigned by the state department to work with Ronan on the case due to Colin's drug trade in the Middle East. Cane admitted that he had been working with them too, attempting to get Colin put back into prison. Meanwhile Jill, after overhearing Colin's suspicious phone call and being warned by Cane, coaxed Colin to bed and handcuffed him, then called the police. Hard as it was to admit to herself that Colin was a conman who continually lied to her, Jill told Colin that she loved him but realized that helping to trap him for the police was the right thing to do. Ronan arrived at Colin's suite and arrested Colin for money laundering, drug trafficking, and suspicion of murder. Colin's diplomatic immunity no longer got him off since they had discovered that his ambassadorship was phony. Genevieve turned over Colin's books, and Colin was deported.

Victoria became convinced that Billy was in trouble and unable to contact them, so she and Jill decided to go to Myanmar and find him themselves. Inquiries and bribes at the American consulate disclosed that Billy had been imprisoned for illegal drug trafficking, but was there no longer. Then a guy at a bar told them that Billy was in hiding, to follow him to the dock in back, where he attempted to abduct them, but they were rescued by Cane. Cane told Jill and Victoria that he had followed them there, and they boarded a plane back to the U.S. together. Victoria got bumped from her connecting flight from New York City, and Cane and Jill went on ahead. Cane assured Jill that Billy was alive and well. Billy and Victoria, having met and reunited at the New York City airport, arrived at the Chancellor estate just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone was overjoyed to see him, as Billy picked up and hugged his daughter Delia, then turned around to find Victor there as a guest. After Victor hastily excused himself, Billy told everyone that he had been setup and imprisoned in Myanmar, then had trouble getting back, leaving out that Victor had gotten him out of prison to save Delia with a bone marrow transplant, then had held him prisoner ever since.

Jeffrey Bardwell had been missing for months and assumed to have wiped out Gloria's bank account before he left town. Jill, on returning from visiting Phillip in Australia, discovered Jeffrey at Crimson Lights. He had had a boatig accident, hit his head and lost his memory. Convinced that it was true, Jill checked him into a hospital. After Jeffrey began to remember Jill "intimately", she decided it was time to reunite him with Gloria and Gloworm. Gloria was not totally convinced that Jeffrey wasn't lying, and flaunted her new relationship with Angelo. Once Jeffrey met Angelo, although he told no one, Jeff remembered Angelo making him empty the cash drawer at Gloworm.

Lily and Cane decided to remarry with a small family wedding on Valentine's Day – everyone but his mother Genevieve whom Cane had disowned. But the day before, Katherine surprised them by moving the wedding to a friend's villa in Provence, France, and flying friends and family there in her private jet. Katherine stayed home for Delia's birthday party. The wedding was held on the beautiful grounds of the villa with Abby as maid of honor, Devon as best man, and Neil giving away the bride. Cane sweetly told Jill that she was the mother of the groom, the only mother he had ever truly loved. The vows were spoken informally about second chances, and they exchanged both their old and new rings. Afterward, a reception was held in the garden, while Genevieve tearfully watched from afar, and was only spotted by Jill, who didn’t tell anyone.

On their return, Jill and Ashley asked Cane to become Jill's assistant director of marketing at Jabot, and Cane accepted. He turned out to be invaluable in keeping peace between Ashley and Jill, as Ashley was stressed out over handling the company without Jack who had been paralyzed. Both Jabot and Beauty of Nature became focused on getting an exclusive deal with Mitsukoshi, the largest department store chain in Japan, so Jill traveled to Japan. So did Cane, Victor and Genevieve.

Not long after Billy and Victoria reunited, Chelsea Lawson showed up in town pregnant by Billy during his time in Myanmar. After the baby was born, they were able to convince Chelsea to let them raise the baby, John, and Victoria adopted him to make it final. In the end, Jill was thrilled to be a grandmother again.

Jill and Cane were there to meet with Kaito Yoshida of Oshiro Holdings, supposedly a Mitsukoshi major stockholder. But Jack called and tipped them that the man was actually the U.S. government agent who had investigated Newman and caught them making bribes. They did not show up for the meeting. Nick and Sharon arrived, and Sharon met with Mr. Mitsukoshi himself and secured the exclusive rights for Newman because of their prior relationship when she had been the Beauty of Nature spokesperson.

In May 2012, Jill left Genoa City for Sydney, Australia, to help Phillip following his knee replacement surgery, bringing him some of his favorite Wisconsin root beer. On her way out of town, Jill considered cancelling when Lauren was arrested, then she had words with Genevieve in the park over who was the worst mother which ended up a mud fight.

Six months later, Tucker asked Jill to return to from Australia to rescue Katherine from returning to the CEO position at Chancellor. Although suspicious of Tucker's motives, Jill was able to convince Katherine of their concern for Katherine's heath and that she cared. The three met over lunch where Jill proposed that she and Katherine become Co-CEO's of Chancellor, and Katherine agreed.

Katherine caught Tucker sneaking out after spending the night with Jill. Jill took up for Tucker and tried to get Katherine to reconcile with him. While arguing Katherine had a heart episode, and Jill thinking she was faking again, walked away. But she came back later, and was able to awaken Katherine who said she merely had a headache. Tucker showed up at the Chancellor Estate Christmas 2012 with gifts for Delia, Jill, and Katherine. Jill helped him to get Katherine to agree to have dinner with him. Jill warned Tucker that her doctor had told her to cut out stress in her life, so he had better behave. But not long afterward, Tucker left Genoa City.

Months later, Noah Newman's former girlfriend, Adriana Chavez, happened on Katherine who was trapped in her car during a bad winter storm, rescued her, and took her home. Katherine gave Adriana a job as her personal assistant to handle annoying details so that Katherine would have more time for important things. Jill called Adriana a vulture, but Katherine was adamant. Adriana worked with Katherine and continued to be Katherine's "memory" which was slipping drastically. When Katherine realized that she had forgotten to go to Victor and Nikki's remarriage, she was shocked, but fearing Alzheimer's, she did her best to keep it secret. Cane finally realized her problem and coaxed Katherine to see a doctor. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although he tried to persuade her to tell her loved ones, Katherine swore Cane to secrecy, allowing him to tell only Lily.

Katherine went in for her surgery to remove the tumor and have it biopsied. Jill and Murphy showed up out of the blue, and offered to call Brock, Devon, Nina, and Esther. Before her surgery Katherine asked Cane to run Chancellor if something happened to her, and he agreed. Jill ran into Nikki and told her about Katherine. Nikki told Katherine that she understood her not telling anyone, but had learned from her own M.S. that they had to let the people who love us get us through it. With good news that the tumor had been benign, Devon, Murphy, Cane, and Jill assembled around Katherine's hospital bed until she finally awakened, feisty as ever. She announced that she was stepping down as CEO, and named Cane as her successor. Katherine went home from the hospital on her May first anniversary, and was surprised by the family with champagne and cake. Left alone with Jill, they had a heart to heart, then Katherine weakly ascended the stairs to bed, refusing Jill's help.

Jill and Cane made peace, and Cane convinced her to come back to Chancellor and run the BioTech (medical research) Division. As part of her new job, Jill began planning a charity ball to benefit brain tumor research to celebrate Katherine's recovery. Jill tried to bribe Cane's assistant, Hilary, into passing some of Cane's work off to her, but Hilary told Cane about it instead. Jill explained to Cane that she was only trying to give Cane and Lily more time, not making a power play. Meanwhile, Katherine and Murphy vacationed at Lake Louise, then took a trip around the world, with Katherine sending postcards but uncharacteristically not keeping abreast on Chancellor.

Three months later at 8:00 P.M. during an ominous thunderstorm, Jill, Victor and Nikki, Cane and Lily, Esther, Chloe, Devon, and Kevin gathered in the Chancellor living room having each received instructions by mysterious postcards from Katherine which arrived from locations around the world. Murphy finally arrived alone and told them what an exhilarating trip they had taken, hitting all the famous locations on Katherine's "bucket list", even including a ride on the world's tallest wooden roller coaster in Germany, dancing the flamenco in Barcelona, and zip-lining in the Sacred Valley. He said that their final stop had been Hong Kong where they met up with Tucker for dinner, which was cordial, almost pleasant. Afterward Murphy and Katherine had sung together in a karaoke bar and gotten a standing ovation, but later that same night Katherine had died in her sleep. Everyone was shocked and saddened by the news. Murphy admitted that the doctors had told Katherine that she did not have long live, so she had decided to take the trip. Jill reacted accusing her of being selfish because she had told them that she had been cured. Murphy asked everyone to forgive her and to remember the love and special moments that she had shared with each of them. As each of them had their own memory, Jill recalled a rare occasion when they had admitted how much they cared and hugged. Murphy gave Nikki a letter to read aloud that Katherine had penned for them which asked them to remember her spirit of hope and determination in life, not her death. It ended with "You are not getting rid of me this easily. I will still be watching from another room." When Jill reread this line the next day, a book suddenly fell from the mantle onto the floor, and Jill believed that it was true. Later Murphy distributed envelopes with personal messages to each. Katherine left Jill a cryptic message,"I want you to have all that I value. Everything I can give you is right in front of you. You just have to look in the right place."

Murphy later delivered letters from Katherine to each of her loved ones. Per Katherine's instructions, Jill and Nikki arranged a celebration of life to be held in a park at Lake Delaney. Delia made the invitations which were titled "Being Free", and guests were instructed that there be no sadness, tears, or regrets, no wearing black, but happy bold colors instead. Father Todd came from Michigan to officiate, and Danny sang. Brock, Nina, Amber, and Gina also came from afar, but Tucker and Mac sent their regrets. All of Katherine's loved ones had words to say about her, Jill among them. Jill broke down as she related their history from the day they met, their love/hate relationship which had ended in love. Afterward they put a flower on the altar next to Katherine's urn. Then Murphy revealed a plaque saying Chancellor Park. In loving memory of Katherine Chancellor. Paul received his letter from Katherine during the ceremony which inspired him to propose to Christine, and Father Todd married them right then and there. Nikki and Jill stayed after everyone had left. They shared how each of their letters had left them quests. Then they both saw a vision of Katherine smiling at them as they hugged. Days later when Katherine's will was read, Jill, who was expecting to inherit everything, was disappointed that Cane was to retain the CEO position, the corporation ownership was to remain confidential, and all of Katherine's assets were doled out leaving her for last. Jill was bequeathed only Katherine's half of the mansion "which must remain in her hands in perpetuity", and what Katherine called her most prized possession, a red music box which was given to her on October 25, 1940 - her 12th birthday. Jill was furious and perplexed by the music box. And later it was revealed that Victor Newman was the heir to Chancellor Industries, and he merged it with Newman after getting it away from Adam.

Jill asked Michael to contest the will for her, but he and Lauren want to first see if they could help Jill figure out Katherine's challenge. Michael found an engraving which said the music box had been made in Geneva Switzerland, and he urged Jill to go there and look for more clues. But a couple months later she returned after the news that Delia, Jill's seven year old granddaughter, was killed by a hit and run driver. Jill tried to help Billy who felt responsible because he had left her alone in the car.

It was not long before Jack and Jill were putting their heads together to come up with a way to get Chancellor-Newman away from Victor. Pulling in Devon, Kyle, Cane, Neil, and Jack's new assistant Hilary, they decided they needed a mole to work from the inside. Kyle volunteered for the job, but Jack turned him down, saying that unlike Victor, he would not use his kids to fight his battles for him. But while Hilary and Jack were going through a list of Chancellor-Newman employees for a possible candidate, Kyle was asking Victor for a job, telling him that he was tired of being Jack Abbott's son, wanted to be his own man, and to make a name for himself.

Jill insisted on getting the family together for Thanksgiving in the tradition of Katherine. Murphy was unable to attend, but Esther, Chloe, Kevin, and Lauren felt comforted that Katherine and Delia were together. Jill asked Esther to bring in the turkey, but Esther had not made anything because Jill had told her she was taking care of all the details. So they ate Chinese takeout instead. Each one read their fortunes, and Jill's was "Do not fear the unknown, ask the right question, the answer is worth knowing."

Frustrated, Jill sold the music box online, but it was mysteriously returned to her. It turned out that Esther had bought it and sent it back. Stuck in an elevator together, Jill showed Hilary the music box, and in chatting, discovered they had similar roots; their families being abandoned by their fathers when they were very young. Jill threw the music box in the trash at home, but it returned again wrapped as a gift under the tree by Chloe.

Jill told Jack about a cancer drug research company that Chancellor had acquired while she was working there called Bonaventure Industries, and her suspicions that they were cutting corners trying to stop their losses. Jill pointed out that if they could prove it was an unethical subsidiary, it would create bad publicity with the FDA for Newman-Chancellor. Jack agreed, but insisted that if this lead to that company's demise and they were doing good work, he would fund them. Kyle offered to get more information on it.

Jill received a call from an antique dealer who told her that her music box had been one of a set owned by a famous person. Jill was excited as she walked out the front door with the music box, but was chloroformed and dragged away. She later woke up handcuffed to a bed, hearing the music box playing, and recognized her captor as they entered the door. A text was sent from Jill's phone to let everyone know that she had gone out of town.

Weeks later, Jill returned home with Colin Atkinson and the news that they had remarried. Cane, Lily, Jack, Devon, and Esther had been gathered at the estate with concern that Jill was not responding to messages about Billy being in the hospital. They were shocked with the marriage news, and as his son Cane said, "bringing that bastard back into their lives". Although Jill and Colin gushed with claims that they were still in love, viewers saw flashbacks to Colin being the one who kidnapped Jill and had coerced her into marrying him so that he could stay in the country legally, complete with a prenup giving him 50% of everything Jill owned if they divorced. Being practically broke anyway having to finance the estate, Jill went for it to get her freedom.

After hearing the story from Jack about Billy being in the SUV with Adam when it crashed and burned, Jill checked in with Billy at the hospital. Billy was mostly just banged up. Happy to see his mother, they reminisced about when Billy was a teenager. Afterward, Jill consulted attorney Leslie Michaelson about getting Colin deported following an annulment. Leslie checked, and found that Colin had been legally released from the Australian prison. Returning home, Colin told Jill to go ahead, but that without him she would never find the secret to the music box, which Katherine had confided in him as being very valuable.

Jill and Colin attended the Delia Project Valentine's Day benefit. When Lily unveiled the antique snow queen doll which was to be auctioned, the case was empty. But Lily spotted a stranger, Richard Womack, heading for the door with it under his coat. When she grabbed for the doll, it broke, and diamonds showered onto the floor. Womack pulled a gun, and held everyone hostage. Devon triggered a silent alarm, and Paul and the police arrived outside the locked ballroom. Womack made Lily pick up the diamonds from the floor and made Abby collect the cell phones, but Kevin kept his and called Paul so the police could hear what was going on.

Jack made Womack a deal to call his private jet if he would let the hostages go. Then Neil, Tyler, Devon, and Cane staged an argument to get the drop on Womack. Tyler knocked out Womack's accomplice with a champagne bottle, whose gun flew across the floor. Paul shut off the ballroom lights just as they scrambled for the gun, but Colin had caught it under his foot. Paul bargained with Womack to let Billy and Victoria go, and the lights would be turned on. Afterward, when Jack's plane was ready, Womack let everyone go but Lily. Cane begged to replace Lily, Lily hit Womack's arm, the gun went off, and Cane was shot. Colin jumped out from where he had been hiding, his gun on Womack, while Lily and Cane escaped. Womack was killed as he and Colin struggled over the gun.

Afterward, Jill was impressed with Colin, but still was not ready to trust him. In exchange for a kiss, Colin revealed that Katherine had stuck a note in the music box for Jill to find, but Colin had removed it. Colin gave Jill the note which contained the name Rachel Berenson. Going through boxes in the attic, they were able to piece together that Katherine's father Walter Shepard had been an Army intelligence officer in WWII. They found an old photo, stamped "Piccadilly Photo, London," of a woman with "Rachael" written on the back, and a fond mention in his journal of "R" who translated messages from the enemy. With her knowledge of all things in the mansion, Jill enlisted Esther to help her try to solve the puzzle ahead of Colin. Colin reminded Jill that they once had a fantastic bond and made real fireworks at one time with their sex life. Jill admitted that she was scared to love him, because she could not trust him. But Jill eventually succumbed to Colin's charms, and she invited him into her bed again. Jill contacted Chance for help, and he discovered that the Rachael in the photo was not Rachael Berenson, but a Rachael Carlisle. After another romp in the bedroom, Jill was disappointed to catch Colin on the phone promising someone the money he owed them, saying that his wife would lead them to the "old gal's money". Jill was over the moon in love again, confiding in Jack that Colin made her feel alive again, yet she knew she could never trust him. Afterward, Jill overheard Colin telling a man in the park that the deal was off, that he cared too much for Jill to milk her for her fortune to pay off his debt.

Jill conned Colin into going into the attic, then locked him inside unless he signed a document giving her a divorce and laying no claim to her money. Colin refused to sign and tried to convince Jill that he loved her. Jill told him what she had overheard. Cane showed up looking for Colin and found Colin's wallet in the desk drawer. Inside Cane found a Bonaventure business card, and showed it to Jill. While locked in the attic, Colin found a journal of Katherine's. He claimed to Jill that it and some sheet music held the secret of the music box, and convinced her to free him. Later when Jill discovered his deceit, they fought and Jill threw a pillow at Colin. It hit the chandelier, and Katherine's favorite necklace fell to the floor with a note from Katherine requesting that Jill wear the necklace on her journey to find out what was really important. Colin declared that the music box had meant nothing. An appraisal confirmed the value of the necklace at eighteen million dollars and Colin claimed it was communal property. Jill vowed to never sell it as it was part of her legacy, that she would never take it off, and they went upstairs to make love. The necklace disappeared before Jill had a chance to insure it, but it turned up on granddaughter Matty's neck, and was returned to Jill.

Next, Colin drugged Jill and left her lying on the couch, and the door unlocked so his "thief" could steal Jill's necklace. The guy arrived, removed the necklace from Jill's neck, but was interrupted by Lily as he was leaving. Lily smashed a vase over the thief's head, causing him to drop the necklace and flee. Colin returned to find Lily hovering over an awakened Jill, who was skeptical of Colin's claimed innocence. Jill told Colin that she was not stupid and knew he had arranged for someone to steal her necklace. Colin admitted that he owned money from funding Bonaventure, and had to pay up or else. Jill assured him that she would help him find a way out of it, then shocked him by handing him the necklace, and going to bed. The next morning Colin said that he could not use it, that she and Katherine's necklace were more important than his predicament. Happy to hear it, Jill admitted that the necklace he held was a copy, so good that a thief would not know, and to go ahead and let them have it. When the necklaces got mixed up, Jill assured him that she could tell them apart by its cosmic connection to her, and gave him the fake one. Colin gave it to his associate to settle his debt, and Jill collected eighteen million dollars from the insurance claim, which they agreed to split fifty/fifty. Lauren and Esther were both skeptical when they heard about it after the fact, but Lauren asked Jill to fund a new Fenmore Boutique with part of it. Lauren was not happy when Colin wanted to be a partner in it, but Cane and Jill talked her into it.

Jill and Colin returned from the Caribbean to a letter from Katherine, written before her death. It jokingly said that one year had passed so she must be genuinely dead this time. Katherine said that she hoped that Jill had stopped cursing her over the music box, and had found the necklace and would wear it well and think of her. Katherine requested that they throw a one year anniversary party, and gave detailed instructions. Jill and Esther began to set the plans in motion, and Murphy arrived with more instructions. All her old friends were there, including Nina who came from California. Following a tradition Katherine had learned in her bucket list travels, each guest wrote on paper their desires and fears, then the papers were lit on fire, in hopes of clarifying them, or to imagine her giving them the advice she knew they were missing from her. Stubborn Jill, refused to write anything on the paper. But later after everyone had left she had a chat with Katherine's memorial saying that she knew the mystery behind the music box was "don’t look for hidden agendas, to trust, and to love". Leaving the music box there, she walked away smiling. The next morning, Jill realized that she still wanted it and went back, but it was gone.

Jill observed Colin try to give Kurtz a briefcase as she watched through the revolving doors of the GCAC, and took a picture of Kurtz. Detective Harding burst in and arrested Kurtz who was wanted. Colin and Jill celebrated their victory at the bar, and Colin revealed a two million dollar windfall he had been about to use to pay off Kurtz, made necessary by Kurtz discovering that Jill's necklace Colin had given him was a fake.

Seeing that Cane and Jill both seemed to miss the corporate world, Colin encouraged them to stage a takeover of Newman-Chancellor, which had been having financial problems ever since the Bonaventure scandal. Expecting Victor would have to sell Chancellor if the warehouse district sale failed, they agreed to partner to get Chancellor back from Victor. Jill challenged Victor to "spin it off before you run it into the ground." Victor surprised her by putting an enormous price on it with a seemingly impossible deadline, before he would open it up to public sale. They managed to come up with the money, thanks to Devon, and the contract was signed. Jill became CEO, with Cane next in command. Devon's funding stipulated that Colin was not allowed to be any part of the company.

On Valentines Day, Lily, Cane, Jill, Colin, and Devon were flying to Chicago on a private jet provided by a real estate mogul who wanted Chancellor to move to Chicago. Devon turned it into a family trip by inviting Neil and Hilary to come along. During the flight Neil got up and poured himself a drink, turned to see astonished eyes on him, and said, "Yes I know it is alcohol," proceeded to read the bottle to them, and downed it. "Yes, I can see. I can see everything," as he glared at Devon and Hilary. Neil told everyone that the first thing he had seen was his cheating wife in bed with his son Devon, that Cane and Colin had known about their affair, and that Colin had been blackmailing Devon over it. Moments later, the jet hit turbulence and crashed. Colin came-to among the ruins of the jet, and located Jill alive and well in the snow. Everyone else was eventually found with minor cuts and bruises, except the pilot had been killed, and Hilary was pinned under some wreckage. She experienced cardiac arrest, but Neil brought her back with CPR. As they waited to be found, Colin built a fire, sent up flares, and found blankets in the jet to keep them warm. Jill decided to forgive him for the blackmail since he was doing it to buy back Chancellor for her. By the next morning with Hilary's leg injury making her weaker, Devon was chosen to hike for help. But before he could leave, Neil was discovered missing, and the map was gone as well. Eventually, a rescue helicopter sent by Neil hovered above. Once home, Jill was able to convince Lily that none of what happened had been Cane's fault, and love can conquer anything.

Jill returned from Hong Kong telling how she and Tucker had had spent the second anniversary of Katherine's death at the same karaoke bar where Katherine had spent her last night alive, singing all the songs they could think of that she would have sung.

Jill questioned Colin about the huge deposit recently made to their bank account, wondering what he had been up to. Colin claimed it was gambling winnings, but Jill didn’t believe it. Esther told Jill that Colin had been making illicit advances toward her, which Colin denied, but Esther said she had had enough and moved out of the Chancellor estate.

The memorial to Katherine was held in the park bearing her name. Murphy was unable to attend after he had broken his leg in a fishing accident. Paul read a letter from Katherine, where she requested it be read by Jill, complete with shots at Jill, reminding them that last year they were instructed to do something that would make her proud. Jill told how she had reclaimed Katherine's company, Victoria about her baby she had named Katherine Rose, and Nikki said she had reclaimed her sobriety.

Jill was devastated when Billy was found unconscious after being beaten up and run over in the Newman parking garage on New Year's eve 2015. Victoria and Jill hovered over a comatose Billy who had injuries to his cervical spine and direct trauma to his skull. After being saved when Billy went into cardiac arrest, his doctors wanted to perform surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. Ashley suggested Dr. Neville try his coma method on Billy. Abby's new husband Dr. Ben concurred with Billy's doctors, so the family agreed to the surgery. During surgery Billy again went into cardiac arrest, they had to use paddles to bring him back, and he was left with little brain activity. Jack and Jill argued over what to do about Billy if they were asked, Victoria told them that after Phyllis had been in a coma for a year, Billy had said he would rather be put out of his misery. Jill pointed out that all three of them had survived comas in the past. But Phyllis reminded her that none of them had ceased brain activity. Jack was shocked that he had been named as Billy's healthcare power of attorney and agonized over the decision to take him off life support after conferring with his deceased father John's presence. Jill sobbed that she would fight him in court and tried to coerce Dr. Neville into curing him. But he told her it was too late now. Billy's loved ones all said goodbye. But after everything was shut down, Billy started breathing on his own, and came out of the coma.

Jill and Colin threw themselves a small anniversary party, where they staged a fight to get Lily and Cane to reconcile.

Since Jill and Colin spent most of their time between their homes in Hong Kong and Chicago, Jill signed over the Chancellor estate to Billy, making him promise to save a room for their visits. Billy renovated the place beyond recognition for himself and for visitation times with his kids.

In June 2016, Jill returned to town for the dedication of the AbbottWinters Foundation's Chancellor memorial wing, a rehab and treatment center. Jill was horrified by what Billy had done to Kathryn's mansion, telling him that he would never grow up and had no sense of priorities, that she had given it to him as a home for his family, not a place to bring bimbos. Jill said it just breaks her heart to see how he was screwing up his life.

Jill was in town again and lectured Billy again to get his act together. After he stood her up for dinner, Jill decided to exercise the clause in their contract where she could take back the estate at any time for any reason, and Billy gets her suite. Jill sent in a painter to return the estate to its original state. During Billy's lack of attention to Brash & Sassy, Jill and Cane bought up all his loans and managed a hostile takeover by Chancellor. Billy went ballistic as Jill informed him that he and Cane would be Co-CEO's of Brash & Sassy until Billy could prove himself competent.

Jill returned home to discover Billy and Phyllis making love. Phyllis returned to her suite to find Jill there, wanting to know what she was doing in Billy's bed, telling her that she was going to break Jack's heart and ruin the Abbott family. Phyllis explained that they were in love and she was divorcing Jack, then in time the world would see her and Billy together and accept it. Jill threatened Phyllis to break it off with Billy without mentioning Jill or she would tell Jack the truth. Sobbing, Phyllis told Billy it was over, and she returned to Jack. Jill came home to find Billy with a bottle, saying that he had it all and lost it again, that he could care less about Brash & Sassy or proving himself to his mother.

Cane made a deal to move Brash & Sassy into the now-vacant Jabot lab, too near to Phyllis. Cane came up with a stupid marketing plan, but Jill was not impressed.

Jill asked Victoria to head Brash & Sassy, but Victoria declined, so Jill got Victoria drunk on rum and told her about Billy's stupid marketing idea, sending a drunken Victoria straight to Billy. Billy explained that it was Cane's idea not his, and they realized they had been set up by Jill. They began reminiscing about their first island trip when they had gotten drunk on rum had gotten married, and they fell asleep together on Billy's office couch. The next morning Victoria resigned from Newman, and took the job at Brash & Sassy. The Co-CEO's became three, and competition among them was heightened. Brash & Sassy launched a new product "Bare" which became an overnight sensation.

Jill was shocked when Lauren sold out 49% of Fenmore's to Jack Abbott without even telling Jill. To get the money to buy it back from Jack, Jill offered Brash & Sassy for sale to Billy, Cane and Victoria. But Victoria decided that she wanted to buy it back herself. Unable to come up with the money anyway, Cane and Billy grudgingly agreed to stay on with Victoria as sole CEO. Jill made Jack an offer, but he refused, giving her an outrageous price.

Colin finally returned from Australia owing money, as usual. Jill discovered that all her personal assets were gone, and she confronted Colin, gasping and yelling. Colin admitted that he had done it to get in on a big deal, and she tossed him out in the cold, yanking his bathrobe off as she shut the door. Esther called Billy, telling him that Jill was having a heart attack. Jill refused to believe it until she woke up from surgery after stints had been inserted to correct the 80-100% blockage of her heart valves. She was shocked when her doctor told her she had to change her lifestyle completely, cut back her work schedule, no stress and no alcohol. Esther and Billy assured the doctor that Jill would comply. Billy and Esther banned Colin from visiting Jill, packed up his things, donated them to charity, and threw him out of the estate. Jill laid in her hospital bed still loving Colin and remembering how she had fought with Katherine to take care of herself and stay alive for those who loved her. Jill called Colin to her hospital bed and told him they were through.

Colin went to the charity's thrift store to see what he could buy back (thanks to some money Lily gave him). While there, he rediscovered the music box that Katherine had left for Jill, and bought it too. Fiddling with it again, he discovered another hidden compartment which contained a key. The safe deposit box it opened contained an envelope for Jill and a diamond and emerald ring. Colin was elated that the value of the ring enabled him to pay back Jill, and she forgave him. Feeling guilty, he dropped the letter in Jill's mailbox. In the letter Katherine said that she was sorry she had kept the ring that Phillip had bought for Jill all these years, and she wanted Jill to have it. Jill questioned Murphy and he said that the first thing on Katherine's bucket list had been to make peace with Jill. Jill figured out what Colin had done and was furious. Colin returned the money and presented Jill with the ring. Eventually Jill forgave Colin, and they left together on a trip.

When Cane lost his job with Brash & Sassy, and was unable to find another, Jill made him acting C.E.O. of Chancellor. Cane was doing such a good job running the company, that it was chosen as one to watch for the new year. Jill returned for Christmas 2017 alone, saying Colin was sailing off the Gold Coast. Jill announced that she had decided it was an opportune time to sell Chancellor and use the money to do good works in the world. Both Cane and Esther were appalled, but Jack made her an offer, declaring that both Katherine and John would have approved. Jill countered with a price that was way too high as a bluff, but Jack accepted it. Jill added that Cane must stay as CEO, Jack agreed and offered Cane a possible seat on the Jabot board as well. Jill was excited about the deal until Billy advised her that Jack was no longer CEO, so there was no deal. Before she left town again, Jill made a New Years Eve attempt to reunite Cane and Lily, and made jobless Billy Co-CEO of Chancellor.

In March of 2018 Leslie and Lorie Brooks returned to Genoa City for the Walnut Grove Centennial Reunion, and were sitting at the bar of the Genoa City Athletic Club as Jill walked in. Referring to her as their former stepmother from hell, they exchanged barbs and mentioned that the school was honoring their father Stuart by naming the journalism lab after him. By July, Jill was summoned back to town by Esther who had been awakened in the middle of the night by Kyle Abbott digging up Philip’s grave. Both Esther and Jill showed up at Abbott Manor to give Jack and Kyle a tongue-lashing. Kyle poured on the charm with Esther, and Jack managed to calm Jill by explaining that he had discovered that Philip may have been his biological father, reminding her how desperate she had once been to find her - until the DNA results arrived by messenger. It seemed that Kyle had managed to pocket a piece of bone before he had been arrested. But much to Jill’s relief, Jack turned out not to be Philip’s son.

Jill returned just after New Year’s 2019 announcing that she and Colin were taking a break, saying that fun as he was, she needed someone she could depend on. Later in the year she referred to him as her exe.

Devon was suddenly notified of discrepancies in Katherine’s will. Conferring with Jill after being unable to contact the attorney, they could only think of Chance as maybe having an interest in doing so after so many years. Jill reported that Chance had recently emailed her that he had been traveling, and was working on something that might be quite lucrative. Attorney Amanda Sinclair arrived in town, shocking everyone she met by looking identical to Devon’s dead wife Hilary. Amanda claimed that Chance had hired her after he discovered that Devon’s father Tucker had paid Katherine’s attorney David Sherman to alter 2 pages of her will to leave the bulk of her estate to Devon instead of Cane Ashby. Cane denied any knowledge of it, Chance was working undercover and could not be reached, nor could Tucker. Once the original pages were authenticated, and even though the statute of limitations to contest the will had run out, Devon felt obligated to give Cane the two billion, 475 million dollars he had inherited. Devon kept his companies and assets the money had allowed him to secure. Then Chance showed up in town saying he knew nothing about the claim, and had not hired Amanda. Jill began to suspect that Colin was behind the scam, and tracked him down on the island of Kuredu, in The Maldives where he was living high. Jill accused him, he denied it. Jill was about to succumb to Colin’s charm once again when Chance burst into the hotel room ready to arrest Colin for the scam. Chance announced that Colin had already stolen the money out of Cane’s bank account. While Chance and the Feds waited on extradition, Colin managed to escape the authorities there, and called Chance to taunt him. All eyes turned to Cane, accusing him of being in on the scam. Cane assured them he was not, and vowed to track down his father Colin, bring him to justice, and clear his name. Colin was spotted in Buenos Aires, then sent Jill a single rose from Luxemburg.

Jill demanded Billy become head of ChancComm the new communications wing of Chancellor, to focus on print, digital, and apps, and to help Billy rebuild his life. Billy balked, but finally agreed after talking to Ashley. Jill surprised him by introducing him to his new partner, Lily Winters. Jill leased the former Dark Horse offices for them. Lily and Billy disagreed on a lot of things, but decided they were a good match.

Suddenly, all of Devon’s money was returned by one of Colin’s colleagues. Devon was shocked and relieved. Chance explained that Colin had used it to launder other money and had used Chancellor to funnel money through as well. Chance located Colin in Switzerland set him up, and Colin was captured. Colin was awaiting extradition, so Jill filed for divorce, claiming she was done with men. Reminiscing with Jack at the bar, Jill asked Jack if he would like to join her for trip to San Trope. Jack was intrigued, said he could not leave Dina, but wished her a good time. Jill mostly lives at her other homes but returns to Genoa City occasionally for important occasions.

Jill returned in December 2020 for her grandson Chance’s wedding to Abby Newman. Devon became an ordained minister to marry them in a family only ceremony at the Chancellor estate. Nina returned to town to be his “best mom” and Abby asked Mariah to be her maid of honor. The wedding was beautiful. Chairs were cleared for a reception where everyone put marital advice on cards in a pretty glass box. A couple months later, Abby was disappointed to discover she was not yet pregnant. Her doctor found scarring of the uterus after her miscarriage left her unable to carry a baby. Mariah agreed to be their surrogate, but before that could happen Chance found out that he was unable to father a child, likely due to his recent sepsis. Then the Justice Department stepped in, and Chance was called away on a case. He left letters for both Nina and Abby, imploring Abby to go ahead and find a sperm donor and make their baby happen. After Nina and Abby agonized pouring over donor profiles, Devon stepped in and offered to be the donor.

Two months after their baby Dominic was born, Abby received the devastating news that a bomb had leveled the building in Valencia, Spain, which Chance and his colleagues had been using as a safe house. All were assumed dead. Abby refused to believe it, went to Spain herself and returned with Chance, very much alive. Nina and Jill both were there to welcome Chance home.

Jill was also needed to pick up the pieces of ChanceCOMM after Billy had been duped by Victor and Adam into disgracing the business. Both Newman Media (Victor and Adam) and Newman-Locke (Victoria and her husband Ashland) were interested in buying it. Jill decided to step back as Chancellor Industries CEO and offered the job to Lily Winters with Jill as her mentor. Billy was offered a lessor position under Lily but refused, still only interested in getting even with Victor and Adam. But his love and respect for Lily helped him to see that he was back in the spiral again, gave up on revenge, and joined Lily at Chancellor as COO.

After a time, Jill suggested a merger between Chancellor and Hamilton-Winters and helped convince Devon to do it. Billy began doing podcasts aimed at helping people to better themselves. Partnering with Hamilton-Winters, Moses joined him. Lilly proposed that Chancellor-Winters become two-fold with the Hamilton-Winters division focusing on entertainment and media and Chancellor on merchandise, hospitality, commercial real estate such as concert venues and hotels. Devon and Lily would still be in charge of their division. Devon made Nate his COO and renamed LP Streaming to Hamilton Streaming to honor his mother. Jill arrived in town to attend the launch party in June 2022. Afterward she had a little reunion with the back-from-the-dead Diane Jenkins. Jill, in town for the launch party, told her that she admired her being able to pull off faking her death, then returning to all the people who wanted her dead. Diane claimed she returned just to reunite with her son Kyle, but Jill accused her of wanting Jack back as well. Jill told Billy that she was impressed with his podcasts, betting he found them cathartic. She warned Billy that if he screwed things up with Lily she would never forgive him.
