The writing has been on the wall for General Hospital's Sonny and Nina since the day she had Martin Grey call the SEC to rat out Carly and Drew for...committing a crime. No, she didn't do it for altruistic reasons, but since people have done much worse to Sonny and those he loves, many believed he would forgive Nina for her transgression.
Sadly, that does not seem to be the case. While the chemistry between Maurice Benard and Cynthia Watros is still palpable, it seems that Sonny and Nina are going their separate ways -- at least for now. While Sonny always seems to land on his feet when it comes to the ladies, poor Nina will be all alone.
While many fans and Port Charles citizens see her as the town pariah for the horrible crime of reporting a crime, she still deserves a little happiness. After all, Carly has Drew fawning all over her and will have her beloved Jason back in her life soon -- and she did Nina just as wrong as Nina did her. If Carly has a man, then Nina should have one, too. But who should it be?
Valentin is the most obvious choice for Nina because he is now suddenly single, plus they were married before and still have a very close relationship. The only obstacle in their way would be the fact that he is still clearly in love with Anna, something Nina had to deal with the entire time they were married. Anna and Valentin might be apart now, but fans do not expect that to last.
The man who now calls himself John and once called himself Jagger wants one thing at the moment -- to hurt Sonny Corinthos. What better way to get under Sonny's skin than to romance one of his ex-wives? Since Carly is currently not available, why not Nina? John is single. Nina is single. They might find themselves hitting it off and getting along. It would be a switch for Nina to be with someone on the right side of the law for a change.
Let's face it. Curtis and Portia still have a lot of trouble in their marriage -- one they didn't even consummate until a year after they wed. She lied to him about Trina's paternity for 20 years, and he lied to her about allowing his nightclub to be used by the mob. With their trust issues and their penchant for lying to one another, Curtis could find himself single again soon. Nina and Curtis are already great friends, so it's possible one thing could lead to another, and they might give romance a shot.
Sure, Finn is with Elizabeth, but nobody, and we mean nobody, wants this. We are not even sure Elizabeth wants this, but since he is there, she's been going along with it. Perhaps Liz will realize this isn't working out, leaving Finn suddenly single and ready to mingle. He and Nina might find themselves drowning their lonely sorrows one night, which is how he ended up having a one-night stand with Alexis several years back.
This could leave countless fandoms up in arms, but a Nina and Jason pairing could sure lead to some messy, soapy goodness. Nobody expects Jason to be with anyone but Carly, Sam, or Elizabeth, so Nina could throw everyone for a loop. It would also drive Carly out of her mind. She already lost Sonny to Nina. If she loses Jason to Nina, all hell would break loose in Port Charles. Let the best Wiley's grandma win.
