Maurice Benard and Vanessa Marcil are about to make General Hospital fans' dreams come true
It's been more than a decade since General Hospital's Sonny and Brenda have been seen together on-screen, but now Maurice Benard and Vanessa Marcil have a special treat in store.
The popular performers will appear on the same stage for the first time in years as they open the General Hospital Fan Club Weekend event. So, mark your calendars for August 1, when Benard and Marcil will kick off the big weekend at their own event from 6-8 PM at the Embassy Suites in Glendale, CA.
While Benard is still a front-burner player on GH, Marcil was last seen as Brenda in 2013. She began playing Brenda Barrett more than 30 years ago in 1992 and Benard joined her a year later as Sonny Corinthos. Their characters weren't slated for romance, as Brenda arrived in Port Charles as a high school senior, and Sonny arrived on the scene as a sleazy strip club owner.

However, their chemistry couldn't be denied, and they soon became one of GH's hottest pairs. A 1994 location shoot in Puerto Rico solidified their love story, which became more and more tortured through the years. Brenda was the first to learn how Sonny reacts when someone betrays him after she wore a wire to gather evidence about his criminal ways in 1995.
Although Marcil came and went a few times over the years, Sonny and Brenda finally wed in 2011 after he'd left her standing at the altar during another marriage attempt years earlier. Sadly, their union didn't last long. Marcil returned briefly in 2013 to say a final goodbye to Sonny, but was it really final?
According to the actress, she can't see never making her way back to GH.
"My gosh, well, you know, I will eventually, like there's no way that it won't happen," Marcil said in a 2023 Zoom personal appearance, according to Soap Hub. "You know, I hate to even say the thing, so I won't say the thing, but it'll happen eventually. It's like I wouldn't have a career, we wouldn't have the beautiful lives we have if they hadn't even my first shot there, so I'll always honor, you know, where I came from. But in addition to that, I just love that character so much. She's such a multilayered, incredible character that I think was very ahead of her time."
