American actor Harrison Ford was born to Dorothy Nidelman and Christopher Ford, and he is currently married to actress Calista Flockhart. He has five children: Benjamin, Willard, Malcolm, Georgia, and Liam. Born on July 13, 1942, Ford studied at Ripon College, Wisconsin. However, he quit college and signed a contract with Columbia and eventually with Universal. His film debut was in the role of a bellhop pager in the 1966 crime drama film “Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Around.” In the very next year, he appeared in movies such as “Luv (1967),” and “A Time for Killing (1967),” and shows like “The Virginian (1967)” and “Ironside (1967).”

Ford’s breakthrough role was as Han Solo in the 1977 film “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” Throughout the years, he has returned to his role as Han Solo in several subsequent films of the franchise. In 1981, with the release of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” he debuted as Indiana Jones, another classic Hollywood character that he would keep going back to. Ford has continued to act in the series, with a reprisal of his role in the 2023 film “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” More recently, he played President Thaddeus Ross or the Red Hulk in “Captain America: Brave New World (2025)” and Jacob Dutton in “1923 (2022-2025).”

Ford was born to Christopher Ford (born John William Ford), an actor who eventually pursued advertising as a profession, and Dorothy Nidelman, a radio actress. He has Irish and German roots on his father’s side, and Jewish ancestry from his maternal grandparents, who emigrated from Minsk in Belarus.

Harrison Ford’s Spouse

Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart have been together for over two decades. The pair initially met during the Golden Globe Awards in 2002. One of their first public appearances as a couple was later that year, at the 59th Venice Film Festival. In an interview with People, he shared,

Calista loves to fly, and I’m thrilled because it’s so important to me and it’s the kind of thing that’s so much more fun with somebody who really enjoys it. Liam loves to fly. Calista likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love.

Flockhart added,

I had always been a little nervous about flying, but when we went for the first time – I think to Santa Barbara – I wasn’t nervous at all. I loved it. I also love it because I really trust Harrison. And we take Liam flying all the time and he loves it.

Ford proposed to FLockhart over Valentine's Day weekend in 2009, while they were on a vacation together with Liam. A little more than a year later, on June 15, 2010, the couple tied the knot in New Mexico. The ceremony took place at the Governor’s Mansion in Santa Fe and was also officiated by Governor Bill Richardson.

Flockhart remained by Ford’s side after he was injured in a 2015 plane crash, and the two have continued to attend film and television premieres together. In 2023, Ford told People that he would love to work on a project with Flockhart. Most recently, the couple appeared together at the 2024 Critics' Choice Awards.

Harrison Ford’s Ex-Wives

Prior to his marriage to Calista Flockhart, Ford was married twice. His first marriage was to Mary Marquardt, whom he had met while attending Ripon College. They married on June 18, 1964, and went on to welcome two sons, Benjamin and Willard. Ford’s career gained momentum, especially following the success of “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977).” After 15 years together, they officially divorced in 1979. Despite going their separate ways, Ford and Marquardt have remained committed to co-parenting and later became grandparents to four grandchildren.

Ford’s second marriage was to screenwriter Melissa Mathison, whom he met on the set of “Apocalypse Now” in 1976. Their relationship began in 1982, and they got married the following year. The couple welcomed two children, Malcolm and Georgia, during their time together. After nearly twenty years of marriage, they separated in 2000 and finalized their divorce in 2004. Mathison, who was widely known for writing “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982),” sadly passed away in 2015 due to complications arising from neuroendocrine cancer.

Born on September 22, 1966, Benjamin is Ford’s eldest child. At the time of his birth, Ford’s Hollywood career was just beginning. Benjamin is a successful chef and restaurateur, running “Ford’s Filling Station.” According to his Instagram bio, he is also the author of a cookbook, “Taming the Feast: Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking.” In an interview, Benjamin shared that he initially pursued baseball in his 20s, but later turned to cooking after suffering from an injury. He shares two sons with his ex-wife Emily Ford: Ethan and Waylon.

Willard Ford

Willard, Ford’s second son with Mary Marquardt, was born on May 14, 1969. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. At present, Willard is an entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, where he owns “Strong Sports Gym” and is also a partner at TheSuperFred.com. He also previously owned “Kim Sing International,” a restored historic theater in Chinatown. Willard is the father of two children, Eliel and Guiliana.

Malcolm Ford

Ford and Melissa Mathison welcomed Malcolm on October 3, 1987. Malcolm pursued a career in the entertainment industry and is a musician. He was the lead vocalist of the band “The Dough Rollers.” Jack Byrne, the son of American actress Ellen Barkin and Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, was also a member of the band. They also had the opportunity to open for major acts like Bob Dylan and Queens of the Stone Age.

Georgia Ford

Georgia, Ford’s second child with Mathison, was born on June 30, 1990. She followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued a career in acting. She has featured in films like “American Milkshake (2013),” “True Story (2015),” and the short film series “I’m Being Me (2020).” In 2016, Ford delivered an emotional speech, revealing that Georgia had struggled with epilepsy since childhood. After years of seeking the right treatment, he shared that she had been seizure-free for eight years, thanks to proper medication and care.

Liam Flockhart

Liam was adopted by Calista Flockhart before she met Ford, and Ford later adopted him as his own. As a child, Liam was passionate about sports and was often seen attending various games in Los Angeles, accompanied by his parents. Similar to his father, Liam also shares a love for flying. In a 2019 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ford mentioned that he went skydiving for the first time at Liam’s request. Liam graduated from Amherst College, Massachusetts in 2023, with Ford and Flockhart personally dropping him off at the campus back in 2020, via Ford’s private plane.
