With Sinners stealing the show at the box-office (from the very first weekend) along with commendable critic and audience reviews, the horror streak of April continues as The Killgrin gets VOD release. Dark Sky Films has produced the film alongside helmer Joanna Tsanis, who has gained quite some prominence owing to her short horrors over the years.
The story of The Killgrin revolves around a woman whose recent personal loss sends her down a path of self-healing. But little does she know that what lies ahead of her treatment is a discovery which will have devastating effects on her surroundings. The official synopsis of The Killgrin, per IMDb, reads:
"After a personal tragedy, Miranda explores unconventional self-help methods, only to learn from a spiritual healer that she has an infection of her aura called a 'killgrin', which thrives off her misery."
What is story of The Killgrin about?
The Killgrin, per reports, is being considered to be an inspiration of the 2014 horror hit The Babadook and has also incorporated a tone similar to that A24's Hereditary. To state in simple words, the story is a brutal portrayal of what grief can do to a person.
It is about a woman named Miranda who has recently been the victim of an utterly tragic personal loss. Having hit a dead end with how to treat her trauma and overcome the psychological changes, Miranda looks for different methods - something uncoventional like spiritual ways of getting healed.
With her mind set on the same, she gets in touch with an expert in the field and is shocked to learn that she suffers from a strange condition - a psychological ailment driven by an internal malicious force commonly going by the phrase 'Killgrin'. The Killgrin targets a person who has been recently struck with grief and affects that individual's aura - it does give the creep but it happens to exist. The worst part is that it feeds on the mysery, pain and sadness of the affected person and gets even stronger with each passing day.
Miranda, on learning about her condition, starts experimenting with self-healing methods. But sadly, nothing seems to work and things get even worse. She soon finds herself being totally directed by the evil entity and that not only harms her, but also puts her close ones' lives in danger. Suspense and thrill are two major elements of the movie - not to mention that horror finds its right spot to culminate.
