The show topped the list this year, surpassing The Bear to receive the highest number of nominations. Shogun entered the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards with 25 nominations, beating The Bear which received 23 nominations. The nominations included technical awards also. The show was competing with many popular and well-received shows, but it managed to stand out because of its high production quality.


Shogun made history by winning 18 awards at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. It broke the record for winning the most Emmys by a show in a single year. The show won 14 awards at Creative Arts Emmys and solidified its presence by winning in top categories including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, Outstanding Lead Actress for Anna Sawai, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Frederick E. O. Toye, etc.


The show made history by making and breaking many records. Shogun is the 1st majority non-English show to win an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Drama Series. Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada became the 1st ever Japanese actors to win Emmys. In May 2024, following the huge success of Shogun and its record-breaking wins at the Emmys, FX and Hulu confirmed that they are preparing for 2 more seasons of the show. They will be returning to compete for drama categories in the Emmys instead of limited series categories. The development for the upcoming seasons has started. The creators of the show, Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, executive producer Michaela Clavell, and actor and producer of the show Hiroyuki Sanada are involved in the development.


In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rachel Kondo said that they are figuring out what to do with their characters in the upcoming seasons. Justin Marks revealed that Season 2 will be darker than Season 1. In the second season, Hiroyuki Sanada is the only cast member confirmed so far. According to Deadline, he signed a deal to return for the 2nd season and reprise his role as Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
