Colman Domingo began his career on stage, acting in several Off-Broadway and Broadway productions. In 2010, he won a Lucille Lortel Award for his work on A Boy and His Soul. He later received nominations for Best Featured Actor in a Musical at the 65th Tony Awards after being cast by Susan Stroman in The Scottsboro Boys.
For his role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Domingo received the Screen Actors Guild Award and Independent Spirit Award nominations. In 2022, Domingo was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male for his portrayal of an abusive pimp in Zola and won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as a drug addict in the HBO series Euphoria.
For his role as a prisoner named John "Divine G" Whitfield in the drama Sing Sing and as civil rights pioneer Bayard Rustin in the documentary Rustin, Domingo was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2023 and 2024.
