Brief Character History

Hope Logan was born the result of a scandalous affair between Brooke Logan and Deacon Sharpe, who at the time was married to Brooke's older daughter, Bridget Forrester. After being publicly disgraced, Brooke gave birth with the help of her nemesis, Stephanie Forrester, and Bridget; Brooke named her child Hope to symbolize her new point of view. Brooke forbad bad boy Deacon from being a part of Hope's life, and for a time Hope was raised by Brooke's new husband, Nick Marone.

While experimenting with holding her breath in Nick's hot tub, little Hope got her hair caught in the drain and nearly drowned. Later, Hope called 9-1-1 after Brooke unintentionally left Hope and her little brother R.J. alone all night; when Hope and R.J. set fire to Nick's living room, Child Protective Services removed them from Brooke's care, sparking a custody battle with Stephanie. Hope also blabbed to playmate Alexandria Forrester that Aly's mother, Darla Einstein, had died after being hit by Taylor Hayes' car; this caused Aly's father, Thorne Forrester, to call off his engagement to Taylor. Ultimately, Hope was raised by Brooke's on-again, off-again husband, Ridge Forrester.

In 2010, a seventeen-year-old Hope interned at Forrester Creations. Ridge's biological daughter, Steffy Forrester, resented sharing Ridge with Hope and felt slighted when Hope's idea for a fashion line was chosen over Steffy's. But when Hope overheard Ridge discussing the circumstances of Hope's dubious birth, calling it "a stain on the family name," Hope sought comfort from photographer Graham Darros, unaware that Graham had once raped Agnes Jones. A drugged Hope was nearly raped by Graham as well until Nick tracked them down and saved Hope.

Hope began a sweet romance with Agnes' brother, Oliver Jones. Steffy decided to pursue Oliver and unsuccessfully tried to use her sexuality to best Hope, who was a virgin. At Hope's graduation party, where all the guests wore masks and identical costumes, Hope was horrified to discover that Oliver had made love to Brooke by mistake. Hope later recreated the party trying to understand what happened and broke up with Oliver, unable to get the image of him and her mother out of her head.

Hope helped newcomer Liam Cooper reconnect with his long-lost father, Bill Spencer, Jr. But Hope's new relationship with Liam drew opposition from Bill, who thought Hope wasn't good enough for his son, and Steffy, who wanted Liam for herself. Hope stuck by Liam after he got drunk at a party, hit his head, and woke up next to social climber Amber Moore, who soon declared she was carrying Liam's baby. Hope believed Liam when he swore he couldn't remember sleeping with Amber, though Hope and Liam went through a dizzying array of breakups and makeups trying to decide between their love and what was best for the baby.

Hope was close to accepting Oliver's proposal the night Amber went into labor, but Amber's child was born African-American, which put Liam in the clear, so Hope and Liam reunited. Hope wanted to remain a virgin until her wedding night, layering that purity message into her fashion line, Hope for the Future. Though Hope agreed to marry Liam, she was devastated to catch him kissing Steffy; Hope broke up with Liam via voice mail and left her engagement ring on Liam's mantel. Hearing Liam had offered Steffy her ring, a conciliatory Hope followed them to Aspen, where she found herself locked in a gondola and forced to watch Liam and Steffy exchange vows.

Steffy's brother, Thomas Forrester, took a liking to Hope and whisked her away to Cabo San Lucas, where Liam and Steffy were coincidentally vacationing. When Hope finally saw Liam, they kissed, but Steffy was injured in an ATV accident and diagnosed with a life-threatening blood clot. Hope understood that Liam felt obligated to stay with Steffy, but soon it came out that Bill had faked Steffy's MRI to keep Liam away from Hope, and been the one to trap Hope in the Aspen gondola. Hope threatened to go public with Bill's crimes, but never did.

Hope and Liam's wedding was stopped by Steffy, who held out for a proper divorce instead of an annulment. Hope moved in with the still-married Liam instead, but her fear of becoming like her openly sexual mother caused her to freeze up in bed, so Hope sought therapy, becoming dependent on antianxiety pills when the press labeled her an adulteress. Hope unwittingly took a batch of tainted pills that were secretly supplied by Amber, who wanted to ingratiate herself to Hope so she would help Amber reunite with her ex-husband, Rick Forrester. Hope became so disoriented that she nearly drowned in the Forrester pool and crashed into Steffy on the slopes of Aspen. Hope promised a furious Liam she'd swear off the pills.

About to marry Liam in Puglia, Italy, Hope found her estranged father, Deacon, at her door. Late for her wedding, Hope learned Liam had gone back to their hotel after finding a note she supposedly wrote saying she didn't want to marry Liam; Hope and Liam tied the knot afterwards. Hope happily created the Hope's Perfect Wedding fashion line, but her reverie was dashed when she came upon a video of Liam kissing Steffy, accidentally taken by Liam's iPad while Hope was trying to reach him in Italy. Hope insisted on a "do-over" wedding, but when Liam showed up with dyed hair and a tattoo after partying with Steffy the night before, Hope sent Liam away, feeling validated over Rick's DJ friend, Othello, reporting he saw Liam and Steffy kissing at his club.

Hope reeled to discover Othello lied about Liam and Steffy's kisses at her brother Rick's behest, and she was livid when it turned out Bill had broken Deacon out of a Genoa City jail for the express purpose of ruining Hope's wedding to Liam. When Bill managed to evade her, Hope busted through the window of his house with a golf club. Although Liam had moved on with Steffy, Hope declared her intentions and suggested that Steffy move out so Liam could more freely choose between them. Hope and Brooke surprised Liam with a wedding, but the surprise was on Hope when Steffy arrived with news she was pregnant.

Hope eventually set Liam free, even hugging Steffy in an unusual moment of connection. But then Steffy fell off a motorcycle and miscarried; Hope was dumbfounded when Steffy moved to Paris and gave Hope her blessing to be with Liam. With Liam not ready to move on, Hope took a walk in the woods and snapped a pic of a naked man showering, then hit her head running from him. Hope woke up to find the man, Wyatt Fuller, gently kissing her. Hope noticed that Wyatt wore the same sword necklace as Liam and Bill, eventually helping Wyatt discover that his mother, Quinn Fuller, had given birth to Bill's child after a fling. Hope decided she liked Liam having to compete with Wyatt for her the way she'd had to compete with Steffy for him. Hope wanted to incorporate Quinn's jewelry designs into her rebranded HFTF line, assuring fiancé Liam that she and Wyatt would only be working together.

Hope turned down Wyatt's marriage proposal but also rejected Liam after she saw a video tribute Liam made to Steffy, even after learning Quinn had broken into Liam's e-mail and sent Hope the video on purpose. Hope enjoyed both Liam and Wyatt's attentions for a while before agreeing to marry Liam. On her wedding day, Hope spied Liam in close conversation with a visiting Steffy and ran to Hawaii with Wyatt. Hope deemed Wyatt a hero after he prevented the HFTF diamond from being stolen by jewel thieves, but when Liam presented proof that Wyatt had pocketed the diamond to impress Hope and planted the gem on the robbers, Hope left the bickering brothers in the dust.

Hope took Wyatt back and excitedly took the college-age Aly under her wing at Forrester, but worried when Aly ran afoul of Wyatt and called Hope's morality into question for having a sexual relationship with him. Hope considered Wyatt's idea to take over Brooke's once-successful lingerie line, then had a pregnancy scare, after which Hope was spirited away in Wyatt's camper by Liam, who wanted Hope back. Hope agreed to date both brothers, choosing Liam after Wyatt punched him for calling Quinn "a vile, manipulative, evil bitch." Later, Hope tentatively accepted Deacon back into her life and began developing a relationship with her biological father.

Hope found Quinn increasingly unstable as Quinn obsessively lobbied for Hope to take Wyatt back, and Hope almost lost Liam when Quinn tried to impale him with a sword. Then, Wyatt inherited the HFTF diamond and publicly presented it to Hope at a press conference. After Liam walked out on Hope for accepting it, Hope and Wyatt were sent to Paris for a photo shoot involving the diamond, so Hope told Liam to meet her at the Eiffel Tower, where they would be married. Liam was a no-show, prompting Hope to fly to Monte Carlo and marry Wyatt instead.

Hope learned that Liam had only been late for their wedding because he'd had to save Forrester Creations' new jewelry designer, Ivy Forrester, from drowning after Quinn pushed Ivy into the River Seine. Hope nearly reunited with Liam until she found herself pregnant by Wyatt, after which Quinn became fixated on Hope's baby and repeatedly insinuated herself into Hope's life. Later, in Amsterdam to launch Ivy's new jewelry line, Hope sulked to see that Liam had moved on with Ivy.

After Quinn ambushed Hope's baby shower, Hope demanded that Quinn stay away; Hope tripped and rolled down the stairs, causing her to miscarry. Hope blamed Wyatt for not filing the restraining order she wanted against Quinn, then packed up for Milan, telling Liam she would always love him. Hope gave Wyatt a divorce off-screen; then, after Deacon had gotten involved with Quinn and prepared to marry her, Hope attended the wedding via video chat and told Deacon their father-daughter relationship was over if he wed a woman who had caused her so much heartache. Hope disconnected when Deacon chose to marry Quinn anyway.

At Christmas 2015, Brooke mentioned that Hope had planned to come home from Italy for a visit, but ultimately declined. Months later, Hope was surprised to get a call from Steffy, who was worried that Liam had gone missing; Hope shared Steffy's concern but relayed that Liam hadn't tried to contact her. In early 2017, Brooke paid an off-screen visit to Hope in Milan; Brooke reported that Hope had taken to riding scooters and had become more mature.

In 2018, at Ridge's behest, Hope came home after working at Forrester International's office in Milan and traveling around Europe. Hope had accepted Liam's relationship with Steffy but was surprised to learn from Liam's lovelorn friend, Sally Spectra, that Liam was living alone in a motel. When Hope was told Steffy had slept with Bill, Hope offered Liam her full support. Hope also befriended Steffy, who was carrying Liam's baby, and tried to be a liaison between her and Liam. Though Hope swore to Steffy she wouldn't interfere in any reunion with Liam, Hope happily recruited him to handle the philanthropic aspects of HFTF and began to waver in her support of Liam and Steffy.

Learning Bill had proposed to Steffy, Hope advised Liam to cut his ties with them, then kissed him. After Bill was shot by an unknown assailant and Liam believed himself to be the shooter because a concussion had affected his memory, Hope tried to convince him otherwise. Hope was crushed when Liam decided to go back to Steffy, and so doubly surprised when Liam proposed to Hope instead. Hope decided to set Liam free after Wyatt interrupted her ceremony with news that Bill had faked a continuing affair with Steffy, which had influenced Liam's decision; Hope also felt Liam should be with Steffy, who had just given birth to their daughter, Kelly.

Hope threw herself into work and rebooted her Hope for the Future line, installing Thorne as its head designer. Hope liked intern Emma Barber's idea to incorporate choreography into the showing, but pulled it after Emma was caught taking photos of designs and revealed to be the niece of Justin Barber, Bill's right-hand man. Soon after, Hope began receiving threats on the HFTF web site, but the culprit turned out to be Zoe Buckingham, a past lover of Emma's new boyfriend, Alexander "Xander" Avant, who wanted to get at Emma. Hope was floored when Zoe stepped in for an injured model to present the showstopper and didn't disagree when Zoe was hired on permanently, despite Emma's objections.

Hope found out she was now carrying Liam's baby, but didn't want to interfere in Liam's life with Steffy and Kelly. Hope was shocked when Liam kissed her, and couldn't believe it when Steffy took off her engagement ring and proposed to Hope on Liam's behalf. Hope agreed with Steffy's insistence that they learn to coexist and create a blended family with Liam and their daughters; Hope tried to encourage this show of goodwill by inviting Steffy and her mother, Taylor Hayes, to the wedding. Hope and Steffy took their mothers to task when they caught perennial enemies Brooke and Taylor hurling Hope's wedding cake at each other.

Despite a miscarriage scare, Hope's pregnancy progressed normally. Hope stood aghast when Taylor went off on her and accused her of stealing Steffy's life; Hope was dumbfounded when Liam confided it had been Taylor who shot Bill. Feeling she, her baby, and her mother were targets, Hope ran to Brooke with the news but regretted it when Brooke nearly revealed Taylor's instability to Hope's aunts. Hope declared to Liam she would not let Taylor anywhere near her baby.

Hope traveled to Catalina Island for a "babymoon" with Liam, who had to take a separate flight. Hope went into labor during a wind storm and was in the hands of Reese Buckingham, the only doctor available at the clinic Hope had been taken to. In the course of a difficult delivery, Hope passed out, only to news she had experienced a placental abruption and that her baby, whom she'd planned to name Beth, hadn't survived. Getting no real answers from Reese, Hope blamed herself for losing her child and spiraled into a depression that was only alleviated by Phoebe, a baby whom Steffy had just adopted as a sister for Kelly. Hope began to feel Liam should return to Steffy and be a father to both Steffy's babies.

Hope was shocked to meet Phoebe's birth mother, Florence Fulton. Hope couldn't explain her deep pull to Flo until it was revealed that Flo's father was Hope's departed uncle, Storm Logan, which made Flo her cousin. When Thomas came home with his young son, Douglas Forrester, after the death of Douglas' mother, Caroline Spencer, Hope bonded with Douglas. Hope began to take seriously Thomas' assertions that being together would give Douglas a mother and Hope a child.

Hope more deeply considered Thomas after reading a letter Caroline had left behind which implored Thomas to find a mother for Douglas if something happened to her; this strengthened Hope's resolve to annul her marriage to a reluctant Liam. Hope was saddened to learn that Emma had died in a car crash, but became confused when she learned Thomas hadn't mentioned arguing with Emma hours before Emma's death. Hope apologized profusely when she slipped and called Phoebe "Beth" during a party at Steffy's, where Hope struggled with watching Liam and Steffy function as a family.

Hope was dubious when little Douglas proposed to her on Thomas' behalf all by himself; Hope gave Douglas the benefit of the doubt but didn't give Thomas an answer until Douglas had an unusually bad nightmare. Hope was perplexed when Phoebe suddenly crawled up to her during the ceremony and called her "mama." Hope wasn't ready to make love to Thomas and spent her wedding night on the couch. It disturbed Hope when Douglas began insisting that Phoebe was Beth.

Hope didn't believe it when Liam got her alone and announced Douglas had been right: Reese had stolen Beth while Hope was passed out in the delivery room and put a previous patient's dead baby in her arms, using the money from Steffy adopting Beth to pay off gambling debts. Hope was dragged away by Thomas and broke up a fistfight between him and Liam, which ended with Thomas wordlessly admitting Phoebe really was Beth and that he'd known about it but married her anyway.

Hope and Liam had a joyous reunion with Beth, but faced the daunting task of telling Steffy that Phoebe was really her child, and that Hope was taking Beth home. Hope refused to forgive Flo for her part in keeping Beth from her and filed for an annulment from Thomas. Hope watched in horror as Thomas tumbled over a cliff as a result of Brooke pushing Thomas away from her. Hope didn't believe the reconciliatory words Thomas uttered from his hospital bed.

Later, Hope joined her family in rallying around Katie, who was about to die from kidney failure; Hope shared in the joy when Katie's life was saved by an anonymous donor, at least until Hope learned Flo had been the one to donate a kidney to Katie. Hope was glad Katie would recover but didn't feel the gesture was enough to merit forgiving Flo. Then, still feeling that the supposedly rehabilitating Thomas was a danger to Douglas, Hope played on Thomas' obsession with her and hinted they might be a family again. Hope got Thomas to sign joint custody papers for Douglas but was dismayed that he wanted her to sleep with him in return. Hope ran out to search for the missing Douglas and was cornered by Thomas in an industrial part of the building, where he fell into a vat of hydrofluoric acid. Hope cried to Brooke that she had killed him; soon, Hope found out that Thomas had simply fallen into a vat of water, and that Thomas had pretended to be dead so she'd know what it was like to keep a dark secret the way he had with Beth.

Hope didn't want Thomas as a designer when he suggested Hope for the Future battle the couture line in a fashion showdown but eventually took him on anyway. Hope decided she couldn't marry Liam when his stipulation was that she walk away from Douglas and focus on him and Beth; thinking better of it, Hope sought out Liam to accept his proposal and found him kissing Steffy. Hope threw Liam out of the house and became increasingly chagrined when Thomas began dating Zoe, seeing how much it upset Douglas. When Thomas proposed to Zoe, Hope comforted Douglas but gently refused his request to let Thomas marry her instead. Hope was appalled when Steffy came to her and admitted she had staged kissing Liam at Thomas' behest; realizing Thomas was still obsessed with her, Hope recruited Steffy, Liam, and Zoe in a plot to expose Thomas that included interrupting Zoe's nuptials in a wedding dress Thomas had designed for her. When Thomas jilted Zoe at the altar and declared his love for Hope, Hope told his family how Thomas had used everyone in his quest to bag Hope and fumed that Thomas would never have her. Hope watched as Thomas ran out in tears.

When Liam and Douglas presented her with "Bride" and "Groom" T-shirts, Hope exchanged symbolic vows with Liam as Douglas officiated. Later, Hope helped Liam take care of Kelly when Steffy was in an accident; Hope felt something was off when Steffy became unusually adversarial and accused Hope of trying to steal Kelly from her. Hope supported Steffy after she went to rehab for being hooked on painkillers, but didn't share Liam's contention that Dr. John "Finn" Finnegan, Steffy's doctor-turned-friend, had been blind to Steffy's addiction because of Finn's infatuation with Steffy. Hope declared Liam jealous of Steffy moving on and got him to stop being so involved in Steffy's personal life.

For Douglas' sake, Hope tried her best to forgive Thomas, which included reinstalling him on her Hope for the Future line. Hope couldn't convince Liam to dial down his suspicions about Thomas, even blowing it off when Liam discovered Thomas was keeping a life-sized mannequin of Hope in his apartment. But Hope did pay attention when Thomas suddenly said he still wished he, Hope, and Douglas could be a family. After Thomas argued with the mannequin and collapsed, Hope brought him to the hospital, where he needed surgery to correct bleeding in his brain.

Hope flatly denied Liam's accusation that she had kissed Thomas; she soon learned Liam had seen Thomas kissing the mannequin. Hope tried to keep a brave face when Liam admitted that, while feeling betrayed, he had slept with Steffy, who was pregnant and unsure if Liam or Finn was the father. But after a paternity test confirmed Liam had fathered Steffy's baby, Hope broke down, crying that she'd had enough. Hope didn't feel much better after it was revealed that Thomas' friend, Vinny Walker, had tampered with the test to free up Hope for Thomas; even though Finn had fathered Steffy's baby, Hope was unnerved to hear that Liam had told Steffy he loved her the night he was unfaithful, so she asked Liam for a separation.

Hope was none too pleased when she learned that her mother and aunts had forgiven Flo for her part in Beth's illegal adoption and allowed Flo to take the Logan name. Hope balked when Flo asked for Hope's forgiveness as well, citing Hope's forgiveness of Thomas and Zoe. Later, Hope was horrified upon finding out Vinny had been left for dead in a hit-and-run; Hope accompanied Thomas to the morgue to identify Vinny's body. Hope began to notice that Liam was distancing himself from her and asked him to move back home, promising nothing would come between them again, which proved futile after Liam confessed to hitting Vinny, which Bill had covered up. As Hope faced a life alone with Liam in jail, she continually insisted to the police that Bill was the guilty party for getting rid of evidence and was touched when Liam asked Thomas to watch over her while he was behind bars. When Thomas left town unexpectedly, Hope became suspicious when she learned Justin was in possession of Thomas' phone. Hope followed Justin and found he had locked Thomas in a makeshift cage to keep Thomas from going to the cops with a video Vinny had sent outlining his plan to throw himself in front of Liam's car to frame him and clear the way for Hope and Thomas; Justin had wanted Thomas out of the way so he could seize control of Spencer Publications in Bill's absence. Hope busted Thomas out of the cage with a crowbar and took him to the police station, which freed Liam just as he was about to be transferred to a maximum security prison.

Hope stirred up a hornet's nest when she invited Deacon, who had just been released from jail for shooting at Quinn, to her home, which generated resistance from Liam, Brooke, and Ridge. Hope further dismayed her loved ones by admitting that she had been secretly writing to Deacon the entire time he was in prison. Hope wanted a relationship with her father despite her family's objections and commiserated with Finn, who was also facing backlash from wanting to get to know his birth mother, career criminal Sheila Carter.

Hope was ready to move out with Liam when Ridge suggested she do so in order to spend time with Deacon without disrupting Ridge and Brooke, but Brooke wouldn't hear of it. Hope was delighted when Brooke seemed to warm up to Deacon, but couldn't understand it when the alcoholic Brooke fell off the wagon on New Year's Eve, leading Brooke to turn her back on Deacon again. Hope shared Liam's confusion when Douglas insisted that he had seen Grandma kissing Santa Claus, but all became clear when Hope confronted Brooke and found out that Brooke had kissed Deacon while drunk. Hope knew that Steffy had once again drawn battle lines between Ridge's family with Brooke and Ridge's family with Taylor, and therefore Hope tried to help Brooke keep the truth about Deacon from Ridge.

Once Ridge learned of Brooke's kiss with Deacon and left Brooke over it, Hope was on hand to support her guilt-ridden mother and implored Deacon to appeal to Ridge on Brooke's behalf. Later, Hope joined her family at Steffy's bedside when Steffy and Finn were shot during a robbery; Hope was devastated to learn that Finn had died from his injuries. Hope was unhappy when the unconscious Steffy woke up thinking she was still married to Liam, after which Hope went along with Liam's suggestion that they keep up the ruse until Steffy was stable enough to handle the truth about Finn. Once Steffy's memory returned, Hope couldn't believe it when it turned out that Sheila had shot both Finn and Steffy; Hope stood by Liam as he spent extended time with the grieving Steffy, despite the warnings that Brooke issued about the situation. Later, Hope shared her family's relief when it turned out that Finn was alive after all.

Hope's walls went up when Thomas approached her to ask about changing their joint custody of Douglas; Hope didn't want Thomas to have Douglas with him full-time because she didn't feel Douglas should be uprooted from the home life the boy had found with her, Liam, and Beth. Hope worried when Thomas brought Douglas to his home for a visit and refused to return him; later, Hope listened as Thomas admitted she was the only woman for him. For Douglas' sake, Hope allowed the boy to continue staying with Thomas and later celebrated with Thomas when her Hope for the Future fashion preview was a hit. Hope set Thomas straight when he tried to kiss her, but initially held back from telling Liam about it. Hope lent Brooke support when Ridge decided to divorce Brooke and marry Taylor, but Hope joined her family in outrage when they found out Thomas had used Douglas' voice-sampling app to fake a call from "Brooke" to Child Protective Services, which had prompted Ridge to leave Brooke. Hope wanted nothing more to do with Thomas and agreed with Ridge's decision to oust Thomas from the company.

When sales for Hope for the Future became sluggish, Hope considered bringing Thomas back on to design, then thought better of it. Later, Hope was stung when Thomas took her to court for full custody of Douglas with the caveat that Douglas choose where he wanted to live, and Douglas chose Steffy. Hope faced more bad news when Steffy divluged that HFTF was doing badly enough that it would have to be scrapped unless Thomas returned to salvage it. After Hope made Thomas apologize to Brooke and learned that he was in therapy, Hope came to believe that Thomas was changing and allowed him to come back, despite heavy resistance from Liam. Additionally, Hope again welcomed Douglas, who had decided to return home.

Hope shocked herself by fantasizing about Thomas while making love to Liam, and found herself going off on Brooke, whom Hope had caught in a mostly innocent position with Ridge. Hope realized that she didn't want to be attracted to bad boys like Brooke had been but had trouble containing her growing giddiness while around Thomas. While in Rome for a Hope for the Future showing, Hope kissed Thomas, unaware Liam was watching them. When confronted, Hope told Liam that she was weary of being with someone whose heart was always divided; after Hope signed Liam's divorce papers, Hope gave in to her desires for Thomas and made love with him often, even after getting caught by Brooke.

Hope realized she didn't reciprocate Thomas' love for her, but she asked Thomas if he would be all right continuing a sexual relationship despite the inequality of their feelings. Hope seemed especially turned on when he would tell her she was the only woman for him. Hope's interest in Thomas wavered when Finn bluntly reminded her of all the ways Thomas had hurt her. Hope also needed time to think after it came out that Thomas had been involved in Emma Barber's death, which Thomas confirmed. But Hope decided to wear Thomas' ring on a chain after he proposed, remarking that she wasn't particularly ready to marry anyone.

Hope defended her relationship with a reformed Thomas to Deacon, all the while disavowing Deacon's relationship with a supposedly reformed Sheila. Hope provided no clear answers about her feelings for Thomas to the questioning Ridge, Steffy, and Brooke, but eventually was able to tell Thomas that she loved him. Hope gently rebuffed Thomas' additional two proposals, which forced Hope into the position of refuting Steffy's accusation that Hope was only using Thomas for sex.
