Trey Parker and Matt Stone produced the animated sitcom South Park for Comedy Central in the United States. The series was initially created for Fox and was based on two animated shorts, The Spirit of Christmas (1992, 1995), which Parker and Stone devised.
The show centers on the adventures of four boys - Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, Kenny McCormick, and Stan Marsh, in and around the town of the same name in Colorado. There are also a lot of recurrent characters in South Park. The series gained popularity for its dark, bizarre comedy and profanity, parodying various topics.
South Park has aired 328 episodes since its premiere on August 13, 1997. Since its debut, it has continuously received the greatest ratings of any basic cable program. Even though its ratings have fluctuated over time, it is still among Comedy Central's longest-running shows.

What is South Park about?
Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick are the four boys at the heart of South Park. The brothers reside in the fictitious little town of South Park, which is about an hour's drive from Denver and situated inside the actual South Park basin in the central Colorado Rocky Mountains. Many characters, such as elementary school employees, families, students, and other locals, also call the town home.
South Park Elementary, other neighborhoods and the surrounding mountain range, real Colorado landmarks, and the establishments along the town's main street are prominent settings that are depicted after the appearance of similar places in Fairplay, Colorado.
South Park, one of the few Mountain West-themed television shows that is set outside of Denver's urban center, often incorporates the region's distinctive culture, including cattle ranchers, Old West theme parks, snowy climates, mountaineering, Mormons, actual Colorado locales like Casa Bonita and Cave of the Winds, and many other regionally specific elements.
South Park's popularity
South Park has received accolades from critics and is listed among the best TV series in several publications. It has won multiple awards, including a Peabody Award and five Primetime Emmys. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, a theatrical release that received both critical and financial acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award, was released in June 1999. South Park was named the eighth Greatest TV Cartoon of All Time by TV Guide in 2013.
