Kevin Malone is a functional character from the American mockumentary sitcom television series The Office. The character is portrayed by the American actor Brian Baumgartner in the series and appears as a recurring character in the first season and as a starring character in the seasons that followed.


The Office's Kevin is one of the few supporting characters who is based directly on a character from the original British version. He is modeled after Keith Bishop, who is bigger than Kevin and lacks musical taste and communication abilities. Kevin works in the Dunder Mifflin Scranton accounting department.

According to "The Podcast," Kevin is of Irish heritage, and contrary to "The Delivery," he was not raised in the Scranton area. After interviewing for a position in the warehouse, Kevin was hired as an accountant at Dunder Mifflin because Michael Scott had "a feeling about him." According to a scene from Andy's Play that was cut out, Kevin has a sister who lives close by. He also has a mother who needs to be placed in a home because she is no longer able to live alone.

Kevin tends to be fairly reserved, although he has a reputation for saying harsh or hurtful things about the other staff members. There are indications of Kevin's inappropriate online behavior, especially with the subject of pornography.

Kevin was engaged to Stacy, who had a daughter named Abby, at the start of the show. Kevin proposed to four women, but Stacy was the first to accept, and he was thrilled, even if he secretly thought of her as a backup plan for Melissa Riley, one of the other ladies. Stacy is not widely known. She only ever makes background appearances and never talks on camera. "Chair Model" discloses that Kevin and his partner have split up. Kevin then meets Lynn in "Blood Drive" and they begin dating. However, it is revealed in a deleted scene from "Café Disco" that she only wants friendship.
