Black Mirror fans were caught off guard—in the best way possible—when a surprise follow-up of the “USS Callister” episode dropped. While the original one left a number of threads unresolved, the new installment moves towards tying them all together.
Fulfilling every fan’s wish and minus Jesse Plemons’ Robert Daly, new conflicts have been introduced, including a greater scope beyond the digital world, and most importantly, Cristin Milioti’s fierce and unforgettable Captain Nanette Cole has come back.
Cristin Milioti Shines Again as Nanette

Milioti’s return is arguably the biggest highlight of the new episode. As Captain Nanette Cole, not only does she control a spaceship, but she also serves as the moral backbone of the plot. Milioti does a fine job of channeling Cole's instinctively driven character and putting in a nuanced performance that makes a high-concept plot feel emotionally resonant.
Cole seems to have regained her control over the narrative, and as expected, fans and critics have praised Milioti's portrayal—she weaves into her performance a all the elements of rebellion, resilience, urgency, and dry humor.
In a universe where the code has the potential to transcend into a living being, her transformation from an oppressed to a commanding figure is masterfully done and is arguably one of the best examples of good writing.
Is Part 3 on the Horizon?

Of course, on the back of a strong reception alongside lingering questions regarding the conspicuously absent plot points, speculations about a Part 3 have gradually started to set in. And while Cristin Milioti has yet to confirm them, she hasn't ruled out any possibilities either.
In a recent interview with Variety, when asked if she would return for another round, she answered:
“We haven’t talked about it, but I do trust Charlie’s brain. If he feels there’s another possibility, I would love to talk to him about it.”
Though it’s not an affirmation, it’s a bit of trust—and one that the audience is more than willing to walk through.
Where Could Nanette Go Next?

Theories regarding Nanette’s possible fate aSs put forward by Milioti are indeed thought-provoking:
“Is this a form of her being able to stay captain forever in some weird, twisted way? Does this start to turn her into someone that she doesn’t want to be, where she has control over who’s in her head, and is never fully alone and is able to retain power in some way?”
Almost foreboding, she adds:
“It doesn’t seem like she’s working that hard to get them out of there.”
Black Mirror certainly plays with the idea of character development and moral dilemmas, and so it is possible that Nanette’s story could follow an equally dark trajectory. If Black Mirror Part 3 does happen, it seems as though the story wouldn’t just continue, but rather besiege all known narratives regarding Nanette Cole.
Final Verdict: Has She Confirmed Her Position?

As of now, no contracts have been signed, but Milioti's open interest in taking on the role for a potential Part 3 is a sign of hope for fans. Furthermore, her trust for the Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker and curiosity regarding the creative possibilities for the character’s future leaves the narrative ripe for another deep dive.
