In Big Brother, the Head of House nominates two of the houseguests each week, one of whom gets eliminated. The person who survives all the eliminations becomes the champion.
Big Brother is an American reality show, which was launched in the year 2000. It is an adaptation of a Dutch show of the same name. There have been many adaptations of Big Brother, but the American version of the show is the longest-running one. The title of the show is taken from a character - also called Big Brother - from George Orwell’s iconic novel 1984. The contestants of the show, who are also called Houseguests, have to live inside a custom-built house - known as the Big Brother House- for three months. They are always under surveillance as several cameras and microphones are installed all over the house. The contestants are prohibited from having any contact with the outside world, effectively meaning they cannot use phones or the internet inside the house. The audience gets to watch what these contestants are doing inside the house.
How does the nomination process work in Big Brother?

Every week, the Head of House (HoH) nominates two other houseguests for elimination. The nominated houseguests then try their best to convince the remaining houseguests not to vote against them at the end of the week. Interpersonal relationships among the contestants play a key role in this. Becoming HoH saves one from getting nominated for one week and also earns them more privileges like a private room and the opportunity to see the other contestants through a soundless TV. There are competitions to become HoH. However, one person cannot become HoH for two consecutive weeks.
For the nominated contestants, the Power of Veto plays an important role. That is decided on the basis of a game played between the HoH, two nominated contestants, and some other houseguests. If any of the nominated contestants wins the Power of Veto, they can cancel their nomination and replace themselves with any other houseguest except the HoH. If any HouseGuests other than the nominated ones get the Power of Veto, then they can also remove one of the nominated contestants and nominate another HouseGuest for elimination. Naturally, friendship and allegiance made inside the house play key roles in the whole nomination process.
Other rules in Big Brother

There are certain rules the contestants have to live by inside the house. If they break any of those rules, they are immediately removed from the competition, which is called getting expelled. A contestant can quit the competition and walk out of the house at any moment, which is known as Walking. However, once a contestant is out of the house, they cannot reenter unless there is some sort of exception. Contestants are also taken out of the house in case of any medical emergencies, as per the protocol of the show. The format of Big Brother is seen as a social experiment where people from different races, cultures and beliefs come together to cohabit.
