Why was Ed killed in The Accountant?
Ed was the CFO of Living Robotics and hired Christian Wolff to investigate financial irregularities in the company's books. Christian does exactly that and, over the course of one night, finds out that $61 million has been embezzled from the company over a period of fifteen years. He informs Rita, CEO Lamar Blackburn’s sister, and also tells her that he hasn’t uncovered the thief’s identity yet.
However, later it is revealed, that Lamar Blackburn was behind everything and is the thief, and thus to remove suspicion from himself, he has CFO Ed Chilton killed and framed as the thief. The hitman, who turns out to be Christian Wolff’s brother unbeknownst to both of them until later on, sneaks into Chilton’s house and threatens to kill his entire family rather brutally unless Chilton commits suicide. The hitman also gives Chilton the insulin and tells him to overdose himself on it to make it look like there was never any outside influence on his decision to kill himself.
Who kills Rita in The Accountant?
After escaping two hitmen hired by Lamar Blackburn to kill him, Christian Wolff decides to pay Rita a visit as she was the only one he told about how close he was to finding the thief. However, when he turns up at her apartment, Wolff finds Rita dead with a gunshot wound to her forehead. It is later revealed that she was assassinated by her own brother as a part of his complex scheme that involved financial fraud and corporate espionage. It is also revealed that Lamar hired Braxton, Wolff’s brother, to do the job because he wanted to get rid of any outliers before the deal was done.
