The story of the rom-com slasher Heart Eyes, is located in Seattle, United States. But interestingly, the film was not shot in Seattle, and neither was it shot in the United States!

Auckland, New Zealand is the place where Heart Eyes has been shot. Auckland is very similar to Seattle visually, as it too encompasses bustling streets, tall buildings, as well as greenery.

Helmed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes follows the plot of a sinister murderer who is targeting innocent lovers. In one such instance, Ally and Jay, who have been misidentified as lovers, are running for their lives from this deadly killer. Actors Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding embody the roles of Ally and Jay respectively.

The film has been shot in Auckland, New Zealand.

The cast and crew of the film were mostly from New Zealand, as the US based production company of the film, SpyGlass Media Group was joined by Ground Control NZ of New Zealand.

Reportedly, New Zealand is quite a favored location for filmmakers due to numerous reasons. It is economical due to the tax benefits enabled by the NZ government, and is also reliable in terms of safety.

Along with that, the numerous experienced crew members of this region have been the backbone in the making of the film. And nonetheless, the area is assorted with a mix of both citified as well as scenic locations.


1) Waiheke Island, New Zealand

This picturesque island has served as one of the filming locations of Heart Eyes.

The isolated, bumpy landmass with lush, greenery has been used to film the terrifying high staking scenes when the Heart Eyes killer would run after their victims, and they'd have nowhere to escape from this abandoned yet scenic place.

The Waiheke Islands is at the Hauraki Gulf. One can witness numerous olive plantations, wine-tasting experiences due to its vineyards, and ofcourse, the beautiful beaches in this island.


2) Downtown Auckland

Downtown Auckland is one of the key filming locations for this film.

The bustling streets of Downtown Auckland was utilised for filming the spooky sequences when Ally was followed by the murderer. In Downtown Auckland, the swarming Queen Street has been a primary location in the filming of these scenes.

Downtown Auckland is a metropolitan region in New Zealand, which is a centre of many thriving businesses and infrastructures.


3) Auckland Domain

In the film, there are numerous spine-chilling scenes that were shot during the night. For those sequences, many areas of Auckland Domain has been filmed.

The scenes required expansive spaces, so this location seemed to be the best match for it. Auckland Domain is a park which covers a great distance, around 190 acres. The other name of this place is 'Pukekawa,' and it is considered to be the earliest and the biggest park in the entire country.

Places such as The Wintergarden in Auckland Domain has also been filmed.


4) St. Matthew-in-the-city Church, Auckland

Some scenes of the film were also shot in St. Matthew-in-the-city.

The magnificence of the building must have been an important element in many charged moments of the film that might have been shot inside the building.

This old Episcopalian church has been in existence since the year 1902, and the construction was concluded in the year 1905. It is a notable structure which follows the neo-Gothic style of architecture, and was designed by architect Frank L. Pearson.

Along with the mentioned locations, some of the other filming areas included are Wynyard Quarter and Silo Park.
