
Martin Hayter Short is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, and writer. He gained popularity for his comedy sketches in hit shows like SNL and SCTV. He started his acting career with a credit card commercial and was later cast in the 1972 Broadway play Godspell alongside Victor Garber, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, and others at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
He has appeared in many TV shows, films, and theatre productions over his five-decade acting career. He has also worked as a voice artist for many animated films. For his performances in theater, he has won awards such as a Tony Award and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. He has received many prestigious honors, including the Golden Jubilee Medal and the Diamond Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth II. In 2019, he was awarded Canada’s highest honor, the Order of Canada.
