The tragic story of Carter, who first became famous as a preteen and teen star, culminated with the singer’s death in 2022 by drowning in his bathtub after inhaling difluoroethane and taking Xanax, as per People Magazine.

Carter was linked with Hilary Duff when the two celebrities were teenagers, and they dated on and off for three years, as per US Weekly.

During a 2006 interview, Aaron Carter shared that he and Hilary Duff started dating on his 13th birthday, reported Entertainment Weekly. As per the outlet, Carter spoke candidly about their relationship, saying,

"We kissed, and we hugged, and we'd hold hands, and go to the movies.”

According to Today, Carter also made an appearance on Duff’s popular show, Lizzie McGuire, in 2001, where he played himself and shared a sweet, romantic moment with Duff’s character, Lizzie.

Not everything was peachy throughout the young lovebirds' relationship, though. According to Entertainment Weekly, Carter shared the timeline of his relationship with Duff during a 2006 interview, and said,

“I was actually dating her for like a year and a half. Then I just got a little bored, so I went and I started getting to know Lindsay…And then I didn't want to do that anymore, so I got back with Hilary. And then I ended up cheating on Hilary with her best friend.”

Carter and Duff finally broke up in 2003, according to US Weekly.

Carter referred to his brief relationship with actress and singer Lindsay Lohan during the interview. As per US Weekly, Lohan and Carter dated for some time in the early 2000s.

At the age of 18, Aaron Carter made a lavish onstage proposal to his then-girlfriend Kari Ann Peniche. As per CBS News, Peniche was a former Playboy playmate and previously dated Carter’s older brother, Nick. However, the relationship ended badly, and E! News reported that Aaron Carter was granted a restraining order against Valentina in 2019 after he alleged that she "physically assaulted" him multiple times.

Aaron Carter later met TikTok star Melanie Martin in 2019, connecting with her on Instagram, according to Today. In 2020, Carter announced via Instagram that he and Martin were engaged, writing,

"Lövē wins…my future Mrs Carter Melanie”

However, Today noted that the couple broke off their engagement in 2021, but got back together soon after. After a miscarriage, Martin gave birth to the couple’s son, Prince, in 2021. Carter celebrated his son’s birth on Instagram, writing,
