Wendell Pierce is an American actor and businessman, born on December 8, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He studied acting at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and later studied drama at Juilliard from 1981 to 1985. He started his acting career in the 1980s and has been in the entertainment industry for more than 35 years. Over the years, he has gained popularity for his character roles in film, TV, and on stage.


Pierce rose to fame for his role as Detective Bunk Moreland in HBO’s critically acclaimed show The Wire (2002–2008). His other notable works include Malcolm X, Treme, Jack Ryan, Suits, Selma, etc. Apart from films and TV shows, he is well known on Broadway, especially for his role in Death of a Salesman. Over the years, Wendell Pierce has worked in more than 50 films. He made his film debut with the film The Money Pit in 1986, where he played the role of a paramedic. In 1992, Wendell Pierce played a small but memorable role as Ben Thomas in Malcolm X (1992), which was one of his first appearances in a big film. He later appeared in many popular films like Ray (2004), Horrible Bosses (2011), Four (2012), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012), Selma (2014), The Gift (2015), Bad Moms (2016), Burning Cane (2019), Clemency (2019), etc.


He is set to appear in many upcoming films, including Thunderbolts* (2025) and Superman (2026). In an interview with Collider, Pierce talked about his upcoming films and said, “I should have now come to think of it. I should have thought about that. I should have talked to the queen of Wakanda to know how to handle the Thunderbolts, you know? And Superman. So I'm just joining those worlds, so I'm looking forward to that."

Wendell Pierce made his TV debut with the show Vietnam War Story II in 1987, where he played the role of French. He gained popularity for his role as Detective Bunk Moreland in the hit show The Wire (2002–2008). Following this, he played the role of Antoine Batiste in the show Treme (2010-2013). He also starred in the hit show Suits (2013–2019), where he played the role of Robert Zane. He further gained international popularity with the show Jack Ryan (2018-2023), where he played the role of James Greer. Apart from that, he worked in many shows like The Brian Benben Show (1998-2000), Numb3rs (2007-2008), The Michael J. Fox Show (2013-2014), The Odd Couple (2015-2017), etc.
