Denzel Hayes Washington Jr., popularly known as Denzel Washington, is an American actor, director, and producer, born on December 28, 1954, in New York. He attended the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California. He started his acting career in theater. He made his on-screen debut with the TV film Wilma: The Wilma Rudolph Story in 1977. He made his film debut with the film Carbon Copy in 1981.


He gained popularity for his role as Dr. Phillip Chandler in the NBC medical drama St. Elsewhere from 1982 to 1988. He is best known for his work in A Soldier's Story (1984), Cry Freedom (1987), Glory (1989), Malcolm X (1992), The Hurricane (1999), Training Day (2001), Fences (2016), The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021), etc. He has won many major awards, including 2 Academy Awards, 3 Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award. In 1988, Denzel Washington bought the popular Hollywood property, the Toluca Lake house for $1.1 million. This is one of Washington’s earliest houses. It was built in 1940 for the actor and comedian Leon Errol. Famous Hollywood personalities like William Holden have owned this house over the years. The wedding of former US President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis was held in this house.


The house spans over 6,300 square feet in area and includes 4 bedrooms, a home office, and a formal dining room. The main bedroom has a media room and balcony. The house also includes a separate guest cottage, a spa, a pool, a koi pond, and a fire pit. In 2000, Washington sold the house for $1.9 million to TV writer Brenda Hampton.

Denzel Washington purchased a mansion in Malibu which was previously owned by singers Captain & Tennille in the 1970s. The list of previous owners also includes Jimmy Page and Jan-Michael Vincent. The mansion includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a guest house, a gym, and a jacuzzi. The house also gives a 180-degree view of the beach. Now, he has listed the mansion for rent on Airbnb.

In 1996, Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta, purchased a mansion in Beverly Park for $6.5 million. It was previously owned by Disney chairman Michael Eisner and his wife. The property consists of two buildings: a 4-story main mansion spanning over 30,000 square feet and a guest house by the pool covering 5,000 square feet. The mansion has a total of 9 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, and a tennis court. The couple still owns this property and considers it as their main property.

In 2006, Washington and his wife purchased an apartment at 15 Central Park West for $13 million. At the time of the purchase, it was the most expensive luxury building in Manhattan, and many famous personalities, like Robert De Niro, Jeff Gordon, and others, lived in the neighborhood. The building includes many facilities like a 14,000-square-foot fitness center, a 20-seat theater, an in-house restaurant with butler services, and a swimming pool with a glass roof. The building provides a view of Central Park and the Hudson River.

In 2022, Washington and his wife bought a condo in Century City, Los Angeles for $10.9 million. The previous owner, Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s late King Faisal’s granddaughter, combined the two residences into one. The house includes 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms with 2 private entrances, which span over 8,150 square feet. It also includes a family dining room and a terrace covered with a set of glass sliders. Other celebrities who lived in the building included Rihanna, Matthew Perry, and Paula Abdul.
