The latest addition to the Star Wars franchise, The Mandalorian and Grogu is all set to reach fans in 2026 and the project looks promising with the inclusion of new characters and a fresh plot that will thrill fans of the franchise. Directed and written by Jon Favreau, the film is a continuation of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, and is being made instead of the show's fourth season.

Starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne in the lead, it has already been a major buzz among fanatics and cinephiles alike, and Sigourney Weaver is here to reveal major details about her character on the film.

Weaver's role has not yet been specified, but the actress talked about her role on stage during a Star Wars event in Japan and said,

"I play a great character. She came up as a fighter pilot. She came up in the rebellion, and now she's trying to protect the New Republic, and I believe she is completely committed to what she does. She has had the good sense to hire Mandalorian and this sidekick. And, you know, I'm gonna find out if they're as good as they say. I'm counting on them."

Weaver also talked about what the film is about as she added,

"Well, someone asked me, 'What is this movie going to be about?' I said, 'It's about action, and it's about adventure, and it's about adorableness. You're gonna love it."

Jon Favreau's Star Wars film came to existence after the fourth season of The Mandalorian was cancelled due to labour disputes and Favreau and Lucasfilm decided together to make it a film instead.

Talking about his approach on the film, the director added,

"And even though it's sci-fi, it doesn't feel like it's set in the future; if anything, it feels like it's set in the past and the archetypes of the past, of classic storytelling.... With a movie, you want it to be for everybody to enjoy, and how do you draw all of that together and put it in a package and experience that? If it's the first time somebody's coming to see Star Wars, they're going to want to be here and be part of this."

The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first film from the franchise in nearly seven years, as the last film The Rise of Skywalker released in 2019 under J. J. Abrams. After The Mandalorian & Grogu, there are four more projects lined up for the franchise, including one highly awaited film that will be made under Taika Watiti.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to release in the United States on May 22, 2026.
