Who is Amara in Supernatural?
Amara, better known as The Darkness, first appears in season 10 of Supernatural and it is revealed that she is a supremely powerful being who has existed since the beginning of time. Not only that, she is God’s sister and is also likely the only being that is stronger than him, as God later created the Archangels to help him fight a war against her as she was too strong for him to kill alone. He imprisons her by using the Mark of Cain as the lock and key.
She was freed after Rowena used a spell from the Book of the Damned in order to free Dean Winchester of the mark and she took on the body of a female baby named Amara. She then consumed human and demonic souls alike as well as an angel’s grace, regained her powers, and became the primary antagonist in season 11. However, with the help of Dean, Amara reconciles with her brother and leaves Earth with him, only to return two years later.
She was then visited by God, who was weak and wounded but Amara refused to help him which led to some dire consequences for the people of Earth. However, after the Winchesters convince her, Amara takes their side against her brother but after Dean betrays her and attempts to kill her, she allows God to absorb her in to merge again. However, the merger isn’t complete and after Jack absorbs Chuck’s powers (God) and becomes the new God, he states that he and Amara exist in harmony.
