Ser Arryk Cargyll and Erryk Cargyll are twin brothers and the knights of the Kingsguard in House of the Dragon. Introduced in season one of the series, the twins were shown as the Kingsguard during King Viserys I Targaryen’s reign and were known to share a strong bond. However, due to the spark of a civil war between the Targaryen family, Arryk and Erryk went their separate ways choosing sides, hence testing their loyalty.
While Arryk Cargyll sides with the greens, supporting Aegon II Targaryen as heir, his twin Ser Erryk Cargyll chooses to support the blacks, supporting Rhaenyra Targaryen as the rightful heir to the iron throne. This causes a rift between the Cargyll brothers as they have sworn allegiance to the opposing sides.
Who killed Ser Arryk Cargyll in House of the Dragon?
Ser Erryk Cargyll killed his own brother Arryk in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2, ‘Rhaenyra the Cruel’. As a reaction to the killing of Aegon II’s son Jaeherys Targaryen, Ser Criston Cole sends Arryk to Dragonstone to assassinate Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, by disguising himself as his twin brother Erryk Cargyll.
In the episode, Arryk succeeded in entering Dragonstone but his plans were uncovered by Mysaria. The latter manages to alert Erryk about the assassination which leads to a physical confrontation between the twins. The fight ends with Erryk taking his brother’s life in the fierce sword battle.

Shortly after Erryk kills his twin Arryk Cargyll in a sword fight, he impales himself with his own weapon as he cannot bear the loss of his twin. The episode takes an emotional turn as the twin brothers tragically pass away.
The show’s creator Ryan Condall agrees that the Cargyll brothers’ dual played a significant role in the Westerosi history. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Condall said, “The Erryk and Arryk duel is a giant moment in Westerosi history.” Expressing her views on the same, executive producer Sara Hess said “We always loved this moment of these two brothers who love each other more than anything also being set to kill each other. There’s a very American Civil War brother-on-brother aspect to it. Why are they doing this? Because these nobles have decided that they’re mad at each other, and now these guys have to battle it to the death.”
