Aegon II’s son Jaehaerys Targaryen dies in House of the Dragon season 2.
House of The Dragon is an American fantasy drama and the prequel to the hit HBO drama Games of Thrones. While the latter is based on Martin’s bestselling series A Song Of Ice And Fire, House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood. The show is created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO and is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 172 years before the birth of the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.
House of the Dragon solely focuses on the Targaryens at the time they reigned and ruled the seven kingdoms alone and how their entire kingdom witnessed the Targaryens' greatest fall due to family politics leading to the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons. The series stars Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Tom Glynn-Carney, Fabien Frankel, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, and many more.
Who is Jaehaerys Targaryen?
Jaehaerys Targaryen was the son of Aegon II and Helaena Targaryen and the brother of Jaehaera Targaryen. The prince was first introduced in the first season of House of the Dragon and instantly had everyone’s attention as he was next in line for the throne. By the second season of the show, Jaehaerys was six years old and was killed by two assassins while he was sleeping in his chambers.
Why was Jaehaerys Targaryen killed?
Vengeance was the reason Jaehaerys Targaryen was killed. At the end of season one, Aegon Targaryen’s brother Aemond had unintentionally murdered Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys (however, Rhaenyra and the Blacks considered the accident to be a plot). At the beginning of season two, Daemon Targaryen (Rhaenyra’s uncle and husband) orders two assassins (known as Blood and Cheese) to kill one of Aegon’s sons, getting the heir to the throne brutally murdered in his chamber.
Who killed Jaehaerys Targaryen?
Two hired assassins Blood and Cheese were the ones to kill Aegon II’s son Jaehaerys Targaryen. In season two's first episode, Rhaenyra’s husband Daemon Targaryen is seen hiring two assassins as retribution for the death of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen's second son, Lucerys Velaryon.
In search of Jaehaerys Targaryen and his sister Jaehaera Targaryen Chambers, the assassins reached Queen Helaena’s chamber in the dead of night through the secret tunnels in the Red Keep. The two learned that the Targaryen siblings were sleeping in Helaena’s chambers. Cheese took the queen hostage and she tried to offer the assassins her necklace as a bribe to spare her children. Blood accepted the necklace but still demanded that her son had to die. The two forced the queen to reveal which of the two sleeping children was Jaehaerys Targaryen.
The helpless Helaena pointed out Jaehaerys, who was then brutally murdered by Blood while asleep. A horrified Helaena flees the room with Jaehaera to the safety of her mother, dowager Queen Alicent’s chambers.
