Simea is the younger sister of Moana. The character is all set to be introduced in the upcoming sequel film with Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda voicing the actress. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tsuda introduced her character to be a mini-Moana. She said, "She is cute and energetic, so I wanted to be cute and energetic when I was saying my lines." The young star also spoke about not having a sibling and how having Moana as a sibling in the film is cool. She said, "I don't have a sibling in real life so it was cool to pretend I have one and it's Moana, the coolest big sis ever! I wish I could meet her in real life!"

A more interesting fact about the character Simea is that she was inspired by the bond between the film’s co-director David Derrick Jr’s daughter Samea (21 years old) and his younger son. In the same interview, Derrick Jr also shared his take on the sibling bond which inspired Simea’s bond with Moana. He recalls, "He (David’s son) would grab her (David's daughter) and he's like, 'Samea, when are we going to live together forever again?” He also added, "It was so hard, but I was seeing things that we all have to go through as you grow up. It's beautiful and it's difficult."

Speaking about Simea’s character in the film, David Derrick Jr said, "Simea is going to be just as scrappy and fiery as Moana was when she was little. So, we tried to come up with a strong enough personality for her that could match Moana's energy on screen, which is a really fun alchemy to play with when you have this 3-and-a-half-year-old version of a character that is very unique in their own way but is still connected to Moana."
