That has nothing to do with the matter at hand: when she shot Cyrus, she was NOT breaking into his "home." So the Castle Doctrine does not apply. It's weak sauce to think, as some are arguing, that a person who is in the lair of a serial killer and is found there by that serial killer is somehow in the wrong legally for being there.
His motives were indeed far from pure. Unfortunately, the writers simply can't see their way to having someone tell that woman "the hard truths" in circumstances where the truth-teller wouldn't be someone who was so compromised.
