Rebecca Herbst will be sticking around Port Charles for the foreseeable future. The actress has inked a new contract. A year ago, fans were outraged when it was announced that the long-time GH vet was going to be cut from the cast.
What a difference a year makes. Last year, General Hospital fans were stunned to learn that long-time favorite Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) had been let go from the show. This year, however, the news is decidedly more upbeat: Herbst has signed a new contract with the show.
During last year's surprise uncasting decision -- which caught Herbst and her costars by surprise -- it was said that the decision to release Herbst was driven by story.
"Storyline dictates the exit of Elizabeth Webber this spring," a General Hospital spokesperson said in a statement at the time. "The next few months promise to be 'not-to-miss' story for the character. We at ABC and GH wish Rebecca Herbst nothing but the best in her future endeavors."

After a month of fans' vocal opposition to the decision, ABC did an abrupt about-face and announced that Herbst would be remaining with the show.
"Rebecca Herbst will continue on as Elizabeth Webber," ABC said in a statement. "The show is thrilled she will remain on the canvas to portray the beloved character in many more poignant and emotional stories. Fans will be pleased to see Rebecca continue the role she created."
Herbst joined the cast of General Hospital in August 1997. In 2007, the actress received an Outstanding Supporting Actress nomination at the Daytime Emmys.
