Finola Hughes' Anna Devane will be staying put in Port Charles for a while. Hughes, who returned to the show in February, has signed a contract with GH. Hughes originated the role of Anna in 1985.
In December, Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) returned to General Hospital was what was then described as a "long-term" visit. Now the actress has extended that stay by signing a contract with the ABC soap.
Back on March 23, General Hospital's executive producer, Frank Valentini, took to Twitter to promise fans "exciting" casting news. Days passed, and there wasn't so much as a peep from the casting department. A few days later, Valentini explained that the show was still "crossing the T's and dotting the I's" on the casting news, and that it might be a few more days before anything would be announced.
With everything now in order, Valentini returned to Twitter to finally announce the teased about news.

"As for the GH casting news, thanks for waiting," Valentini wrote. "I am so excited to announce the lovely Finola Hughes is now on contract!"
Hughes originated the role of Anna Devane in 1985. She exited the show in 1992, but has made occasional returns ever since. In March 2001, Hughes took her GH role to All My Children, where, in addition to playing Anna, Hughes also created the role of Anna's twin, Alexandra, in 1999.
Prior to her return earlier this year, Hughes was last seen on-screen in 2008.
