General Hospital is bringing actor Chad Brannon back to Port Charles, but will he be reprising the role of his presumed-dead alter ego Alexander "Zander" Smith -- or someone else?
A fun blast from the past is heading viewers' way on General Hospital. The ABC soap opera has rehired Chad Brannon, who played the role of Alexander "Zander" Smith from 2000 to 2004.
EW reports that the actor is set to begin filming on Friday, February 12, and will make his reappearance on the canvas sometime in March. It's unclear at this time, however, what GH has planned for Brannon's return.
As fans may recall, Zander was shot and pronounced dead in 2004... so will the character be revealed to be alive? Could Brannon's return be a ghostly one? Or do the powers that be have something else planned? General Hospital is pretty good at surprising fans with character returns, no matter the circumstances, but Brannon's case makes the guessing game even more fun: after Zander was long dead, the actor returned to GH in 2009 for a cameo role as a character named Aaron. So, it's possible that Brannon could be even reprising that role!

To help refresh fuzzy memories and get the guessing going, Zander is the biological father of Cameron Webber (William Lipton), who was conceived during a one-night stand between Zander and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). In fact, Cameron was named after Zander's father, Cameron Smith (Lane Davies). Meanwhile, Aaron appeared for just a brief moment, in which he met Rebecca Shaw (Natalia Livingston) -- who was the twin sister of Zander's ex-wife, Emily -- as she was making her way out of town. So, the storyline possibilities for Brannon's return are endless!
Brannon won a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Younger Actor category in 2004 for his work as GH's Zander. His other credits include Malcolm in the Middle, Cold Case, Friday Night Lights, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad!.
