Faye Marsay played the Waif in “Game of Thrones,” and she primarily appeared in the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. The character goes by the Waif, but her real name is never revealed. The Waif was an acolyte of the Faceless Men serving in the House of Black and White in Braavos. She has a very low opinion of Arya Stark when she arrives at the House of Black and White, but she is also burdened with training Arya. The Waif’s character was directly in contrast with Arya’s. Arya was still attached to her Stark identity, but the Waif had fully embraced the faceless creed. She was presented as something of an antagonist in Arya’s journey to greatness, often testing Arya’s loyalty and her physical and psychological prowess.

The Waif trained Arya in combat, stealth, and deception. She tried to transform Arya into “no one,” but couldn't do so. After Arya disobeys the Faceless Man's orders, the Waif and Arya end up on opposite sides. In season 6, the Waif is sent to kill Arya, but Arya defeats her by drawing her into the dark, and she uses her blindness training to win the battle. After killing the Waif offscreen, Arya presents her head in the Hall of Faces, which shows her rejecting the Faceless Man and fully embracing her identity as a Stark.
