The American epic crime film The Godfather Part II was produced and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It is based partly on Mario Puzo's 1969 novel The Godfather. The extensive cast features Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Morgana King, John Cazale, Marianna Hill, and Lee Strasberg.
With two parallel dramas, it is a prequel and sequel to the 1972 film The Godfather. One follows Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) as he grows up in Sicily and establishes his family business in New York City. The other follows Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), the new Don of the Corleone family, as he defends the family business following an assassination attempt on his life in 1958.
