Jacob Hawthorne grew up with a father in the police force whom Jacob considered “an arrogant jerk.” Jacob married Naomi Hamilton, the granddaughter of the wealthy Duprees, who lived in Fairmont Crest, an affluent gated community in Maryland. Jacob was best friends with firefighter Derek Baldwin, and, together with Naomi, they all hung out frequently with Derek's girlfriend, Ashley Morgan. Jacob, who himself had gotten into law enforcement by becoming a detective, began a new stint at the D.C. Metro Police Department, where he was paired with new partner Marcel Malone.
