Dana “Leslie” Thomas lived in Chicago with her daughter, Eva Thomas, until the death of her husband, Alan, after which Leslie took Eva to Washington D.C. to start a new life. Leslie and Eva formed friendships with nurse Ashley Morgan and Ashley's mother, Jan, but Leslie couldn't help taking notice of plastic surgeon Ted Richardson. Leslie was loath to involve Eva in a plan she had concocted to make right a long-ago wrong, but when Eva declared herself on board, Leslie mounted a motorcycle and ran Laura, an assistant to Ted's wife, work-at-home psychiatrist Nicole Dupree, off the road. With Laura hospitalized, Leslie arranged for Eva to replace Laura, crowing that Eva would now be living in the house of her father.
