Y&R and Dallas alum George Kennedy passes away

Former The Young and the Restless and Dallas star George Kennedy (ex-Albert Miller) had died. The Oscar winner was 91.

Former The Young and the Restless actor George Kennedy (ex-Albert Miller) has passed away at the age of 91. He had been suffering from heart problems for years and was under hospice care.

The actor, who died in Boise, Idaho, this past Sunday, played the part of Victor's (Eric Braeden) absentee father in 2003 and resumed the role again in 2010.

Prior to his role on the CBS soap opera, Kennedy made a name for himself in the entertainment business by starring in several high-profile films like Cool Hand Luke (for which he won a Supporting Actor Academy Award), The Naked Gun films, all four Airport films, and 2014's The Gambler opposite Mark Wahlberg.

He also landed roles on notable televisions shows like Dallas (ex-Carter McKay, 1988-1991), Sarge, The Blue Knight, and The Love Boat.

Kennedy, who was born in NYC to show biz parents, spent 16 years in the U.S. Army before he officially broke into the entertainment industry. While with the Army, he worked for the Armed Forces Radio and participated in the opening of the Army Information Office, which provided technical advice to the entertainment industry as a whole. His role as technical adviser to The Phil Silvers Show eventually led to his early career in television.

In addition to acting, Kennedy also wrote three books: murder mysteries Murder on Location (1983) and Murder on High (1984), as well as his autobiography, Trust Me, which was published in 2011.

Kennedy is survived by fourth wife, Joan McCarthy, and two children from his second (and third) wife, Norma Wurman.
