Tess manages to take over once again, and Nash cradles her in his arms. She is rather distant, scared that Jessica might take over at any moment. In reality, Tess is thinking about the childhood trauma that caused her to come out and protect Jessica. When Nash goes to fetch her a wet rag for her fever, Tess threatens Jessica to stay away and leave she and Nash alone once and for all.

Natalie finally accepts that Layla and Antonio are a couple, then she remembers why she came to Capricorn in the first place. She informs Antonio that Lindsay found a buyer for Cristian's art. On the Palace terrace, Todd meets with Jackie and orders him to kill Margaret. He warns her that she has a medical condition, but does not specifically mention pregnancy. Meanwhile, Dorian and David have lunch with Spencer, and Dorian insists that she is prepared to let the Truman brothers' secrets remain in the past. David is skeptical of his fiancée's sudden disinterest in the past. Spencer gets called to the hospital, but he realizes that he's misplaced the key to his room. At that moment, Todd marches by their table, and Spencer hears him mention Margaret's name. Dorian lets Todd have it, vowing that if Margaret hurts one hair on Blair's head, she will hold him personally responsible. Once Spencer and Todd depart, Dorian assures David that she meant what she said about letting the secrets stay hidden ... inside her hand, though, is the key to Spencer's room!
John visits Cristian in jail and calls him by name. Cris tells him that no one is supposed to know who he is, and John promises they won't find out the truth from him. He does think it's time that Natalie knows the truth, but he says he will wait for Cris to give him permission to tell her. Cris tells John that he wants Natalie to find happiness with another man, but his tune changes when John tells him that she is already on her way to finding it ... with him. Cris says that he won't give McBain his blessing. After John takes off, Cris trashes his cell.
John rushes back to his room and prepares a romantic setting on the roof of the hotel. He summons Natalie to his chambers, and when she arrives, he takes her up to the roof. She asks him what this is all about, and John says that he was hoping she would spend the night with him.
Ginger comes to visit Margaret in the trash-strewn alley, but she can't understand why her aunt is hanging out in such a place. Margaret explains to Ginger that Todd turned her out flat and wants nothing to do with her or the baby. Ginger believes that Todd and Blair have every reason to hate Margaret, and she tells her aunt that she can no longer assist her by spying on them. Margaret tells Ginger that the Mannings are filling her head with lies. Ginger says that there is no way Todd would have willingly slept with Margaret, because he loves Blair too much. Margaret rewards her niece's honesty with a slap across the face, then immediately apologizes. When Ginger tells her aunt that she is moving in with the Mannings and that she will not help her any more, Margaret pulls a gun on her. When she realizes that the gun is not loaded, Ginger tells Margaret to turn herself in; she then takes off. Margaret shakes the gun ominously, vowing that it is the only thing that will help her destroy Todd and Blair.

This brings her down due to her inability to have children but Kevin expresses his delight in being the father of Duke and the fact that he doesn't love her any less. Later, Kelly calls Spencer to arrange an appointment regarding his new procedure that may help her get pregnant, while Kevin calls Todd and advises him that he won't lie to Kelly any longer about his situation with Margaret.
At Capricorn Layla hangs all over Antonio which takes Evangeline by surprise. She doubts her sister's story that she's rehearsing for an audition and informs Antonio that Lindsay is moving in with R.J. to show everyone what a happy family they are. She has her own date with Dr. Phil Jamison which ends with her in tears as she is unable to talk about herself, telling him instead that she's in love with someone else. Antonio wonders why Layla is not telling the true story to everyone of their supposed relationship; she says she can't tell Evangeline because of John. In fact, she keeps it to herself but she still has the key to his room and intends on doing some further investigating.
Up on the roof, Nat is confused as to why John is suddenly not as distant as he was previous to his phone call (regarding Hayes she thinks). He asks to be trusted, that he had something to deal with. He claims that he will be able to accept her being secretive in answer to her question, just as he expects her to accept his keeping things from her because he has to. They shake hands on it and end up making love. Downstairs, Layla has let herself into John's room and makes a quick grab for his secret file in the closet. Rifling through the files, she grabs Cris' folder again and reads it more intently this time. She's able to piece together the fact that John Doe is Cristian Vega and he's alive.
Cris has a new cellmate and it's Hayes Barber, who loses it when he sees Cris' painting of Natalie. Introducing himself as John Doe, Cris grabs Hayes and pushes him up against the bars. Hayes immediately denies having done anything and pins all blame on Nick Messina and John, offering to help out and go after Nick since he's elsewhere in the prison. Cris beats up on Hayes and is dragged off to solitary again, but states that it was worth it.
Margaret purchases some bullets with the money that Ginger gave her and some wool to do some knitting for the baby. She needs to make a plan to get Todd's attention and thinks she'll get Kevin's help, but as she happily knits away, she hears a noise and begins to randomly begin shooting.
Rex begins showing both of the missing women's pictures around. When he thinks he has a lead on Margaret he gives Bo a call. They locate the place where she apparently spent some time, finding a baby bootie and a bullet.
Evangeline questions Antonio about his scene with Layla but he swiftly changes the subject, denying any involvement.
Kevin confronts Asa about how his activities are interfering with his relationship with Kelly. He tells him he is upset with his grandfather for disappearing early in the summer, bribing Hesser to take the heat for what had happened to Blair, and bringing Margaret to Llanview and hiding her. He threatens to go to Bo with what he knows, but Asa stops him by pointing out that Kelly would be upset if Blair was arrested for perjury. Asa is surprised when Kevin lets it slip that Margaret got pregnant by raping Todd. Meanwhile, Asa worries that the BE merger won't go through because the papers haven't arrived, but Duke arrives with them in hand. Bo, fresh from a surprise he and Matthew had thrown for Paige to celebrate her job, arrives in time to join a toast to the Buchanans' past, present, and future.
While the Buchanan men celebrate the merger, Spencer tells someone on the phone that the merger could not have gone through after all he had done to prevent it. He takes the call at the Palace dining room, which has been the scene of intrigue and suspicion as a number of chance and planned encounters unfold. Before receiving the call, Spencer dines with Kelly and gives her hope of having a baby. Kelly is thrilled and tells David privately that she won't change doctors because Spencer is the best. She makes plans to begin treatments next week, but she decides to keep the plan from Kevin for awhile.
Kelly is not the only Cramer woman to share a heart-to-heart with Spencer. Blair has arrived from Savannah in time to hear Todd tell Jackie McNaughton that something had to be done without being traceable to him, and she confides to Spencer that she is concerned because all she and Todd do is fight. But Todd interrupts and tells Blair he understands that her inability to lead a normal life because of Margaret is taking its toll. He encourages her to go to the Craze office that evening to do some work.
After watching Spencer maneuver throughout the evening, David presents him with a napkin where he has diagrammed the people Spencer is stalking in Llanview. He says Kelly has been the target, but falling in love with Blair was unplanned and has thrown a wrench in the works.
Meanwhile, Dorian has donned a disguise and snuck into Spencer's room looking for information on his and David's past. She finds a computer file that looks promising, but she can't determine the password. She calls Adriana to find out how to burn the file to a CD and takes it with her.
Not all the action is at the Palace. At Capricorn, Rex calls Bo and tells him he is still searching for Margaret then taunts Adriana about not having any fun after Duke leaves her to work on the BE merger problem. She grabs him and kisses him to prove that he doesn't know everything about her. Rex soon turns the tables and pulls her into a passionate kiss, which Ginger sees. As Adriana takes the call from Dorian, Ginger tells Rex that Adriana's cheating on Duke will make things easier for her. Later, she watches as Rex and Adriana leave together after Rex promises to be a gentleman and escort Adriana safely home.
While these encounters take place in public, another is being plotted in a more private place. Margaret sneaks into the Craze office and sends Starr a text message, pretending to be Ginger and asking the young girl to meet her at the magazine office. Starr, who has told Todd she can tell something is going on, convinces her father to let her go to the Craze office to meet Ginger. When she gets there, she convinces her bodyguard to wait in the reception area while she awaits Ginger's arrival in the main office. But soon, the lights begin going off, thanks to Margaret, who has thrown all the circuit breakers. Alarmed, Starr waits to see what will happen next.
Michael and Natalie have a conversation at Capricorn, in which she tells him that she knows how he really feels about her. Michael denies having any feelings beyond friendship, and things become slightly awkward. Meanwhile, across the room, Evangeline blasts Antonio and Layla for their scheme. She warns Antonio that he will lose Jamie if he continues to pretend that he's romantically involved with Layla, but Antonio feels he must go forward with the plan. He knows he could lose Jamie anyway, so he wants to give this his best shot. Van maintains that she can take no part in this, and she asks Layla what she plans to do if Jessica shows up in town the next day. Layla says that all she cares about is keeping Antonio and Jamie together. She then sidesteps the issue by showing Evangeline the file on Cristian Vega that she stole from John's closet. Van is horrified that Layla used the key she gave her to break into John's room, but she is intrigued by the DNA report in the file. Because the report is missing the cover letter, Van tells Layla that she'll need to get a doctor to translate the report. Her eyes fall on Michael, but before she can ask him for help, Natalie comes over and blasts Evangeline for having Layla do her dirty work for her.
In Statesville Prison, Cristian is locked in solitary confinement. In the cell next to him resides a familiar face: Carlo Hesser! Hesser taunts Cristian from the other side of the bars, asking him why a John Doe would be so interested in taking revenge on Natalie's kidnapper. Why, Carlo asks, does Cristian care so much about Natalie if he's not really Cristian? As Cris is brought to his knees by a painful headache, it becomes evident that Carlo Hesser knows that the "John Doe" is actually Cristian ... but just how does he know this?
In California, Nash comes back to the winery with cold medication for Tess, only to discover that she's missing. He tracks her down to a bar more than twenty miles away, where she is enjoying her solitude. Tess manages to apologize without actually saying she's sorry, and reminds Nash that she has some serious issues that have nothing to do with him. Nash spots a man across the room who he recognizes as a serious investor in wineries. He takes off to chat the man up, and Tess notices a little girl watching her intently. When Tess walks towards the little girl, she runs into one of the bar's patrons. After excusing herself, she notices that the little girl has disappeared!
Back in Llanview, at the Palace Hotel, Dorian rips into Todd once again for bringing Margaret into Blair and the children's lives. Todd remains calm, but is also slightly drunk. When he's had enough of Dorian's badgering, he walks away in the middle of her tirade. Disgusted, she starts to rant to David, who discovers the data disc that she is hiding in her bag. She doesn't tell him that she stole it from Spencer's room, but instead pretends that it's something from the wedding planner. David gets a call from the "Craze" security monitors, informing him of a power outage. Todd overhears this, and he asks David what's wrong. When David says that the lights at "Craze" have gone out, Todd becomes worried.
Meanwhile, at the office, Margaret has managed to knock out Starr's bodyguard. She has locked Starr into Blair's office, with no lights and no phones. She comes out of the darkness, shining a flashlight onto her face. A terrified Starr wants to know why Margaret is terrorizing her family. Margaret insults Starr's outfit and calls her a little slut. She also throws out several insults about Blair. Starr calls Margaret a bitch, which enrages the pregnant woman. She reveals to Starr that the baby she is carrying is Todd's, but Starr refuses to believe this. Margaret pulls a gun on Starr and tells her that she is going to kill both she and Blair, but that Jack will be allowed to live with her. Starr knocks the gun out of Margaret's hand and runs toward the locked door, banging on it to no avail. Margaret comes up behind her and holds a broken piece of glass up to her throat, but Starr bites her and once again gets away. Margaret wrestles with her and knocks her to the ground, unconscious. Then she lowers the sharp glass towards Starr's throat ...
